I'll gladly take countship of Nispes Minor 2, your excellency.

As for the parliament, I have just one proposal. In the High Tech & Industrial field, we should rush Enhanced Research as quickly as possible. The Rusan Technology Installation that can thereafter be built will be instrumental in securing a technological advantage for humanity and surely improve the capital into a Jewel of the Galaxy. In order to get this wonder before any other empire in the galaxy, money should be saved (at least 100k credits) to crash Enhanced Research, ensuring its' completion at x3 speed.

Unf, My Grand Emperor I would suggest listening to this Ferip character's suggestion. Although he perhaps doesn't go far enough. Why have one wonderous technological facility when you could have 3? One for each area of technological progress. Surely the benefits to our growth are greater then what some more miners could provide us?

After this we can focus ourselves on Count Atoste's strategy, though it may be outdated by then with the progress we could make...

What we require first and foremost is information! We barely know anything even about closest stars, let alone galaxy at large. Scout drones should be built en masse to locate hot alien babes strategic resources and fertile planets for continued expansion of the empire. We should find out if there are any nearby alien space-faring empires to be exploited befriended, or enslaved avoided if they are hostile.

As for research, I agree with sir Astote, his beautiful beard arguments are convincing, at least until situation changes drastically.

I will throw my support behind Count Astote's ideas for of the carrier, with an addendum: if we retain a patrolling carrier battle group or two as a quick-response force within our home systems, we can hopefully ensure the security of perimeter systems more effectively than trying to defend everywhere with relatively weaker forces.

Might I move that this vote be split into Military and Research concerns? While Atoste has excellent military ideas that we all seem to agree with, the research vote is relatively contested.

I second Sir Lordras's motion.  It would seem that splitting this vote should allow us to quickly begin our strategical processes even while we continue to debate the best research to begin.

"Right, then the military matter is settled. We will pursue a small ship doctrine and incorporate carriers and large amounts of fighters/bombers when the appropiate research advances have been made. As an addendum, to address Count Heinrich's concerns, I'll keep a highly independent force of long-range cruisers to disrupt attacks on systems that  we cannot easily protect. To address Count Hiranus' concerns, I'll state the construction of scouts and the exploration of the galaxy is already underway.

Now the only matter left is research, which we will field separately from the matter of military."

(i'll post a mini-update later with a reformed military and a save-game for those interested.)

I fail to see the disparity among us over research. Research path suggested by Sir Astote does not, in fact, interfere with suggestions of that beardless urchin Sir Ferip. If you look closely, improvements of our research facilities were among suggestions of Sir Astotes. Emo king Sir Ferip merely suggests focusing on research facilities first. The carrier idea is cowardly efficient, so while it may be slightly late, I would express my support of it.

My good emperor, if I may.  I'm quite certain that your life is currently getting in the way of your playing and updating.  So I wish to speak to your life directly.  Ahem, if you would be so kind I would ask that you stop throwing things at our dear emperor that inhibit his ability to fulfill his duties.  You may be his life, but you must realize that you can sometimes be a pain in the ass when you invite karma as she is, indeed, a bitch or when you simply decide that other people need to have drama.  So, in closing, I ask that you please allow our emperor the time to do his duties rather than taking up his time with "frivolous" things such as a job or a family.  Thank you.  GLORY TO THE EMPIRE!

My good sir, I believe you have been partaking of a bit too much of the wine I thoughtfully provided (which coming from me is saying a lot) as you have failed to realize that while Sir Atoste (who's name you have failed to pronounce correctly at every turn) suggested improving our facilities, he suggested we do so after...well pretty much after researching everything else we could possibly research. Which is not only inefficient, but gives any conniving, dirty aliens more then sufficient chance to steal the plans for those wonders of engineering and claim them as their sole property, something which we simply cannot allow to come to pass strategically.

I feel the need to correct some things in my proposal.  When I was stating what we should do in our high tech field of research I believe that I stated that those things were in no particular order.  What I was meaning (even if I did not say that they were in no particular order) was that we should do each of those researches, but in whatever order we may choose.  I completely agree that we should place a good deal of research into improving our ability to research at first, but I also do not think we should fully invest into only that.  After researching the first two or three of those technologies we should move onto something else for a time as continuing to research down that branch would be extremely time consuming and, in my opinion, inefficient until later on.

I agree with Count Atoste. The Rusan Technology Installation would best be exploited by maximizing our gains across the entire field. As for military research, I recommend we pursue star fighters presently and decide whether missiles or torpedoes shall be used to equip our fleets.

Count Astote is a popular man, it seems. His ideas have merit. My vote lies with pursuing starfighters and missile weaponry.

(Family surprised me with tickets home to, in turn, surprise my grandmother for mother's day. I realize it's been a while. I'm writing a short update right now and am including the save game. I'm out of commission for the rest of this week, but if one of you with DW want's to play a couple of updates as regent that's cool!)

Update #2: Pirates and Intragalactic Mother's Day

Name: Cornelius Beardius Scoopzen Von Landshut
Imperial Title: Emperor of Humanity, King of Earth & Nispes Minor 3, and 67th Baron Munchën

"Greetings, Lords and Ladies of the Imperial Parliament. Despite a break down in our empire wide communications network several great advances have been made in the name of our glorious empire! Alien... adventurers contacted the office of the Emperor personally to extend newfound information, for a price.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We gladly accepted...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I believe this world is colonizable, but for the moment, we have little information on it. We will scout it posthaste. (OOC: Im pretty sure colonization range is 3 sectors) In other news we are plagued by large beasts in several sectors...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Our escorts do what they can and are, on the whole, effective, though at great cost. Perhaps it is time to commission a new destroyer battle group to combat this threat? Our scouts have also encountered an abandoned ship, we investigated and boarded it...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Though we knew little of its systems at first glance, it turned out to be a colony ship... is living cargo strangely missing, an autopilot error? It could be used to colonize our new colony-candidate? After all, colony ships are a massive strain on our economy. Finally, our scouts encountered yet another oddity in the void...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

An abandoned mining station in the Kanes System. Of course, this lies firmly within the realm of Lord Lodras. Congratulations, Lodras, Lordasia prospers. (OOC: I'll rename it for next update!) Indeed, all of the Empire seems to prosper. Things are, as they so, going too well perhaps. While we are safe now, truth be told, we are surrounded by pirates and smugglers. Even now, we suffer material shortages and swashbucklers of all shapes and sizes, alien and human approach us unwary. It is only a matter of time before they lose their complacency and demand from us more than credits."
