Nice story, but a bit unrealistic.

I mean, slaughtering an elven caravan with marksdwarves?  It'd never happen...

... they'd collapse the ceiling on it instead.

Engraved on the floor is a well-designed image of a kobold and a carp.  The kobold is making a plaintive gesture.  The carp is laughing.

Eh, it seems to me that the Elves fill that old colonial notion of the "Noble Savage" rather then your typical fantasy setting elf thats basically exactly the same as a human, and they are just an androgynous looking human with pointy ears.

Well, I still imagine them to be androgynous humans with pointy ears, but the culture is far different then typical fantasy settings in DF.

I rather liked this story, I think it portrays your typical thrill/fun seeking overachiever of a DF player, with the purple Plump Helmet wine dribbling noble wearing a hat made from a dead caravan animal, combat arenas, tossing prisoners off the execution tower and choking the entrance with mechanical traps and guarded by Marksdwarves: ad nausam is perfect.

Its nice to know the developers are reading the forums and the endless discussions about players doing these exact sorts of awesome things. Its like the players themselves are truly defining "dwarven culture" and how that race and civilization is perceived in this story universe.

Yes. Yes we do.

I wish Threetoe would post more often in general, actually. He's got some very interesting ideas, and as hard as Toady tries (which is harder than any three other game developers you'd care to name), it's a good bet that he's too busy to be the perfect "community liason".

BUmp for great justice.

Come on treetoe, more!

You cant get off the hook with us lot around!

Ive enjoyed reading everything youve wrote so far, and its often helped in visualising the dwarf fortress world as it is intended to be by the creators, rather than interpreted through ingrained fantasy cliches.

I hear tell that Threetoe's creative efforts are currently going into stories for donation rewards.

But yes, these stories are awesome and I would enjoy reading more.
