refuse cannon! basic, just get a garbage dump so dwarves put random crap on a bridge, and when something comes, launch it all, may cause your whole fortress to go to clean it all up afterwards though

Considering how even the seeds falling 1-z level on top of a dwarf can cause injuries, a somewhat heavier objects can be theoretically deadly. The drawbridge flinging is somewhat unpredictable though, and armor protects well enough from this.
Now, if you have a bridge with refuse stockpile above the chamber with invaders, and drop the garbage on top of them before filling the room with magma it may be an efficient was of removing both excess bones and invaders in one go.

Oh man, this should definitely be done on a necromancer/reanimating biome. Dump all the corpses, limbs and bones on a retracting bridge, have your fort entrance one z-level below and drop a ton of zombie corpses on invading goblins...

When you said "cannon" I was thinking minecarts, or would that make it a refuse rail gun?  I feel like minecarts would be the more predictable choice for weaponizing rubbish.

At least they can bruise some muscle.

You could force the invaders to ascend a long staircase with a convenient bridge or a hatch cover above it. Keep dumping your garbage on the bridge/hatch and then release them all on climbing invaders for a nice chain reaction effect. Be sure to dump some boulders every now and then.

The one and only zombie cannon--it even generates its own ammunition!

I wonder if a necromancer could reanimate the corpses as they fly past him, if we don't want them running off of the bridge?

Just the image of a necromancer looking down a tunnel, seeing a cow corpse come rocketing down, and screaming to himself "I MUST REANIMATE IT"

Necromancers do reanimate damn near everything... maybe they're addicted. Raising corpses from the dead is like a supernatural cocaine.

Better yet, fire the corpses at the necromancer, and, uh, see what happens? It should be fun to watch him get bludgeoned to death by his own creations roughly a quarter second after he creates them.

I set something like this up to use in an area that was 50% reanimating evil. Dumped various corpses and body parts on the bridge, set up on the non-evil half. Then if any living nasties came I could launch the bits into the evil half, creating a swarm of undead bits to distract the invaders.

Tip: Test it with junk that can't reanimate first, to make sure the body parts don't land on evil tiles _inside_ the fort...

If you dont have a necro, you could still terrify enemies with the flying skulls of the last people to try and invade.

Also, if you ever figure out why poets/bards/dancers just randomly start butchering people/getting butchered, please don't fix it, I love never knowing when a dance party will turn into a slaughter.

I did this with all the leftover x(troll fur sock)xs I got off of captured prisoners.  Turned into a giant spewing fountain of gore when I shot it at invaders.  Several gib-splosions.  Then again, it was several hundred articles of rotten clothing.  I tested it on a couple of my giant war lions who were reaching retirement age.

My other favorite is two raising drawbridges facing each other.  I call it ambush pong.

Code: [Select]

w...g..g...w
w...g..g...w
w...g..g...w
w...g..g...w

bridges go all the way to the back wall and raise inward, and are set up to be alternating, so you trigger one bridge which raises while the other lowers, and everything on the one bridge goes flying into the back wall behind the other bridge... then you trigger that bridge and send it flying right back.. etc.
