You could always ask the GM if the discount even applies to them. And since Cheesecake said we could even operate from the ship, I doubt we'll be banned from ever returning there.

Edit: if the poor carapace would end up too obvious, then store it in the backpack and keep the robes as armor. I just figured we'd probably get a goodly cloak for the administratum nerd, much like the tech-priest should get a fancier red robe.

Would guard flak be too conspicuous under good-quality clothing? If so, I might have Elodie serve not as a bodyguard of Tesera but more as some sort of companion/servant.

I imagine armour is pretty bulky, unless you got good craftsmanship or something to slim it down a bit.

I think your common-craftsmanship imperial flak can be at least partially displayed if you go with the bodyguard cover. I was mostly worried about Tarkhal's poor-craftsmanship suit of armor; in case he doesn't get a nice, roomy wizard robe cloak, I'll have to leave my actually good armor behind.

Okay. In that case, Elodie will leave her flak in the lodgings we've acquired while we wander around in civvies. The armored bodyglove is mentioned, at least in 1st edition, to be able to fit under clothing easily. Probably why it's availability is so low; nearly as much armor as guard flak and covering all of the body except the head but still very easy to conceal.
