"Well, my brother Eldred pesters me for money to support his latest scheme-it was breeding Teacup Hydra as pets for the nobility last time. I tell him they don't stop eating and growing heads, and all those heads require feeding, but he doesn't listen!

Johanna's in prison again-she was caught picking a High Septon's holy pockets. Quite a rich haul, if you can pull it off-or so she tells me. She sends me letters, asking for news and when I can get her out. I wish I could, but it's not going to be cheap this time...the new magistrate doesn't take bribes, you see, but he does take 'political donations'. And, he has designs upon a higher office.

Ingrid is doing very well for herself, though. She's got a royal sponsor now-she implied she had to do a bit of dancing for it-and is playing that lute of hers in Queen Hildergards Symphonic Aviary. She'll probably turn out the best of all her siblings, me included.

Jermia and Tandi have quit pecking around and finally are engaged to be married-a fair joke we can make of that one...Stem's back on the march, of course. There's always wars to fight, he says-and always gold to be earned. Obert...well, no ones heard from him since he went into the Snakeway to find the Percussion Root. I'm not one to count him out, though. He's gotten out of worse, and came back with stories to tell...

You remember when Ingrid played the Highlanders Lament at your wedding? She's only gotten better since, so I've heard. Ah, we were all together then, you know? My whole family...seems the Methodicals* are spread the length of the world, these days...I'm not sure if we'll ever find ourselves in one place ever again."
Arvin contemplates, a bit sadly-thinking of family members that had vanished or succumbed to the tragedy in these years.

*Arvin's second name is literally "Methodical". He and his brothers and sisters (there are at least a dozen, probably more-though it's impossible they are all related by blood), were raised in a convent, after plague wiped out their only probable parents and left them all orphans. Shared hardship led to them forming friendships, and a family of their own, and most of them taking the name 'Methodical', after their convent mother-it's something of a dark joke, since she was a harsh, but fair taskmaster.

"Not a bad run of it, I see. There ain't much that can be done about everyone going their separate ways." Logan finished rolling the tobacco he had started on when Arvin had went into detail and lit it off of the candle on the table. He blew a smoke ring at the ceiling. "Might wanna warn those two lovebirds that when they get around to having kids things are going to change."

"If we can hit it rich, maybe we can go see that sister of yours, see how good she is nowadays. Hell, maybe go by the old homestead, let the youngin's meet 'uncle' Arvin. You'd probably like little Eric. He's got a mind like yours, so I hear." Logan grinned. "Always scheming and getting into trouble. He'd fit right in with the Methodicals."

"First, we have to succeed, though. I'd much prefer to be the 'rich uncle' Arvin! I'll spoil them so badly, your kids will love me more than you." He says with a grin.

"...Anyway, we're not making anything sitting here...question is, what's our next move? We can go to the guild-steady work, but bad percentages...on the other hand, it's probably the quicker and cheapest way to get moving. Or, we could troll for rumors, and see if we could make our own score, with no guild cut...I've got enough coin on me to clink~clink my way into some of the more upscale libraries and wizards dens, and look for leads on unclaimed treasures...it could come to nothing, though."

Just wanna say that I love how you guys are coloring in (i.e developing) your characters. It will make death that much more painful and meaningful *evil grin*.

Looking over your inventory, Dwarmin, did you not grab the Cerviceps Arcana (the mold)? You couldn't have sold it since you need access to the black market (unless you assumed Lilly, sold it for you?), in any case I didn't count it when totaling the RP, so I assume you still have it (or that you never took in the first place). I ask because it may become relevant later. You've also spend 8 RP not 7, because you need to pay 1 RP for a place to sleep/eat/rest.

One last word, rumors are much more random than guild-work. Some can lead to vast riches (with great risk) others great risk (with little reward) and still others a dead end (despite great investment). Keep that in mind.

((I had no where to carry the slime, and no black market skill to sell it, so I didn't. AFAIK, no one else did anything with it either. Half my team never even posted anything at all. Why do you think I dumped them? :P

Anyway, does the quality of the skill check used affect the usefulness of the rumors we gather?))

Usefulness, sure (and depending on the skill used, you'll get different types of rumors), potential profit/danger? Heh, that remains to be seen.

You can at least avoid dead ends, and get a general idea of what your getting into however, depending on your skill.

Looks good, except you don't have a quiver to go with your bow. That costs 1 RP and takes up 1 slot; arrows are free.

Is this better?

Spoiler:  Kala the Drifter (click to show/hide)

------

It had been a long road. She was always dusty after a long road. Dusty and tired. Still, coin is coin, and she'd been promised the prospects of more. A friend has asked, after all, though it'd had been luck she was passing through the hometown in time to receive the letter. Those of her rather large clan who hadn't taken to the roads stored the letters for the others for when they passed through.

Hooded grey eyes regarded the town thoughtfully. Where would he be, if he was in town? One hand toyed with the silver coin.

Probably the inn.

The small figure - the pointed hood adding a decent portion to her height - pushed open the door, heard the clink of glasses and buzz of conversation. She drifted in like a ghost of the road, looking around.

Ah, there.

She walked up, flicking the silver upwards, and it froze in the air at the zenith of its height.
"I'm sure I'm getting lazier as time goes by."
She slid into a seat and sighed gratefully at having sat down. She held out a hand, and the coin dropped into her waiting fist.
"You look as if you've done well for yourself, Mr Methodical." She smiled.

((Since it seems unclear who is still in and who is not, and I don't want to drag down Dwarmin's party, I think I'm gonna just have Astra hang around town until there's an available party.))

((Well, take some initiative, Twowolf. Things aren't just going to happen without your input-this game is freeform. Pm people and get them interested in doing something?))

---

"You look as if you've done well for yourself, Mr Methodical." She smiled.

"Fortune favors the bold, Kala. Or, at least the person standing behind the bold." Arvin says with a nod and a warm smile. He informed her otherwise of how the conversation was going...

"I do admit, you look a bit trail-worn...get yourself some food, hmm? It's on my tab.

And-you may not know this nondescript man here, currently going by the name of Mr. Logan Glass...he's an old friend, 'adventurer' by trade-which means he'll chop wood if you let him keep the axe, slay rats in your basement a copper an ounce, and catch all your wild chickens for a pot of warm mushroom soup..."
He says, elbowing Logan in the ribs.

"...And Logan, this is Kala-clanswoman, wanderer, drifter, and delver of the great mysterious arcane. What I sham, she does for real."

"I see. Good to meet you, ma'am. It's pretty much as Arvin says; gotta keep the kids fed somehow. And my name actually is Logan Glass, I don't know what he's on about." Logan blew a pair of smoke rings to the ceiling, shooting the second smaller one through the center of the first.

"So how did you two meet?"

"Well, it's an interesting story. We were both looking for rabbit stew. I ended upside down. I offered her a recipe for turnips. She put a hole in my head. We eventually ended up tied to a horse going over a cliff, and we hit rock bottom. We made the spirits angry.

Afterwards, friendship broke out.

We never did catch that rabbit."
Arvin says quixotically.

"Heheh. You haven't changed a bit, Arvin. Some of that was true, at least. We never did get any rabbit stew. And it was your neck, not your head. You healed up fine.

As he said, I am a wizard and magician extraordinaire, or, at least, just a wizard. Taira asked after you, by the way, Arvin, and I told her I hadn't seen you since the time you met the Clan, same as her. She's still sweet on you, the daft girl, so send her a letter every nown again."
