Action: Alright, let's try to place an reversed hallway (blank) painting where the original archway painting was. What happens to the wall opposite?

Or, just try reversing the archway painting, which should show a nail. Then hang a blank painting on it. Then switch them.

Note, if there's any chance of solving it, run the hell away from this puzzle.

Reversing the entrance/archway painting immediately closes the wall with the entrance and a gust of wind comes up and flaps against the flipped painting. You've uncovered the secret passage!. The pillar has disappeared, and so has the way back. There is now a small archway behind the flipped painting (the archway is just a head shorter than your height).

Follow.

((A suggestion: because full checks can only be performed by one character at a time and are very costly, and they seem to be required to get through many puzzles, you should have our characters do half checks when they enter an area. Just a quick, "smells magical" or "Seems to have mechanical underpinnings," just so we have a small sense for what checks are worthwhile and what aren't.))

((That's a bit too much of a give away, huh? :P The GM shouldn't have to tell us what to inspect.))

Yup.

Going forward into the tunnel, you must duck your heads to avoid bumping into the ceiling. The tunnel is narrow and extends for sometime and there is a faint smell of guano as you go deeper. Suddenly you hit something sticky and stringy! Bringing the light closer, you can see that it is a giant spider-web that extends in a funnel shape into the darkness.

What do you do?

But most of the time the nature of the puzzle will be straightforward and obvious (and if not, you can do a "soft check" as in the case when you looked at the runes and tried to sense any magic). As for figuring out whether a check will be fruitful or not *shrugs* sometimes you just have to try *evil grin* and waste resources...

Arvin tapped his staff.

"Ugh. Let's prepare ourselves in case the ah, 'homeowners' are angry..."

Action: Does the web look burnable?

(( Is there that anything that doesn't? *Suppresses arsonist tendencies* Ahem, yes spider-webs are extremely flammable))

Bringing the flame of your torch to the web disintegrates it like wet paper.

"Alright. Prepare yourselves. Lighting fire to the web will likely bring the inhabitants forward..."

Action: Have our tanks torch that web as we forge ahead, dauntlessly! Arvin stays in the back, watching out for ceiling dropping and trap dooring spiders.

In the quiet hush of the tunnel, you huddle towards the faint heat of torches and bodies. The light throws your shadows behind you and you can hear each other breathing as you walk. The tunnel gets wider and higher as you go deeper, as do the webs, but all are stripped away by flame. Suddenly Lilly (High Awr) hears something above your heads - a moist skittering, clicking sound.

What do you do?

Action: Arvin backs up, and lets the professionals deal with this. He suggests his partners all spread out and prepare for the attack.

Also, he holds his flask of oil in his free hand.

Also, I suggest AFK Lily shoot an arrow at the sound she heard.

You all look up bring the light closer to ceiling and revealing:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Lilly looses an arrow from her bow preemptively (Fit + Hunter = 4; Fail!), the arrow bounces off the creatures carapace like a stone skipping across water. Astra readies her weapon. Combat initiated! Players move first (no surprise attack). Vote must be held to fight or flee.
