"Didn't he say..."

"-And this map was given with signed permission, from an ancestor of Lady Chao-mo, who was Fa Ho-Luo's mother, to descrecra-*ahem*-explore-the tomb." Za'sa flips the map over and shows a faded calligraphic signature. He rolls up the scroll before you get a chance to look at the map or the signature, and hands it to you.

"That means we have permission, doesn't it?"

Of course, Twin is neither man nor woman but an unholy eldritch abomination like every other Bay12er. The difference is they hide it better.

Astra, having followed Evelyn, nods. "Seems like one we can handle."
"Agreed, it's straightforward enough. It might be worth looking around for any descendants of this Lord Fa Ho-Luo; might be able to trick them into giving us permission..."

You already have permission (in the form of written consent on the back of the map) from a descendant of Lord Fa's mother (Lady See Chao-Mo). So you're fine there. The only thing you really need is a guide to the Valley of the Dead, as its reality-bending nature makes it the same distance (about a day's journey) from all places but impossible to find without a person with high magical sensitivity (Master Arcanist)

Yup. I've updated the town section with a new option (which I forgot to put) "hire help". This can be done from the tavern.

((Me with two.

On this note, bahihs are you planning on consolidating character sheets anywhere and updating them, or are we in charge of our own sheets?

If we're doing our own sheets I can do everyone's sheets, to compensate for the fact that my character will be of no use in combat.))

Hire a guide (1 or 2 resources, hopefully 1...)

I am going to put each character under their party in the first page. (It should up now) And I will also be updating them once you get to the tomb. You should however keep track of your own sheet so you can challenge any discrepancy. But there is no need to print the entire sheet every time a change is made, a simple bolded -1 or +1 etc will suffice.

Also, I think I'll color-code any text which is DM-speak to make things easy for everyone. Important info will always be purple.

You enter the one of the many Tavern's in the town hoping to find a guide to the Valley. After a few hours of offered alcohol and semi-drunk chatter, you manage to find a priest that agrees to lead everyone to the Valley. In exchange, he wants a sizable donation to his temple. (-1 RP). And with that, you immediately set off for the Valley. The priest follows a seemingly random path from the town, closing his eyes muttering prayers every few steps. When night comes you decide to make camp. In the morning, you breakfast on a deer Lilly managed to kill (Hunter skill; no rations were used during travel) and arrive at the Valley at around sunset.

The entrance of the Valley is known to take on many appearances. In your case, it is a well, with a rope ladder leading into the depths. The priest takes his leave. The four of you peer into the well, but the black is impenetrable. One by one, you climb down the rope ladder. It is a long time before you hit solid earth. Above you, the surface is no more than a point of light - no different than a star in the night. Around you, the darkness is total and terrifying. Below you, the ground is muddy and wet. All is silent.

Light my torch and look around.

Note that you have four people, so that two torches will be needed to provide light for everyone. Otherwise, 2 people get full light and the rest dim light. This is important. For now, I'll assume Astra is standing next to Evelyn.

The light from the torch illuminates a vast cavern whose ceiling cannot be discerned. You are standing on the shore of an enormous underground lake that extends into the darkness. There is no obvious way of getting across. Along the back wall are engravings written in foreign characters. Evelyn recognizes the language (High scholarship) and a cursory glance reveals the words: Fire, love, sleep and...to steal? - well something like that. You'll need to study the characters more carefully for a sensible translation

Arvin (Th Methodical) adjusts his hat, looking about patiently. He seems to distrust the water, keeping several feet away from the edge.

"...can't ever be easy, huh. Well, let's take our time. The tombs not going anywhere. Can I see the map a moment? It's sort of my specialty."

Action: Study the map with my cartography skill to see if I can find some clues about where we are and how to move forward.

This constitutes a "check", and therefore a "turn" will pass. Keep in mind how turns work in this system: every 4 turns everyone gains a random status effect, every 2 turns your torches run out of light. A turn operates for the party as a whole, not per person. Use your checks wisely.

That said:

You (Arvin) take the map from Evelyn and begin to study it. Your considerable expertise with maps allows you read the faded lines with ease (((R+Cartographer = 5 >>DS = 3); Critical! You gain 1 experience point) The map indicates that there are two passages leading out of this cavern. One in the direction of the lake, the other along one of the side walls (the left one). The map makes no mention of a lake, yet connecting this cavern and the next room, the map shows something that looks like a bridge.

Both ways lead to the burial chamber, and upon further inspection you see that the room past the lake could be accessed eventually (albeit in a roundabout way, from the back, through the burial chamber). However, the fastest route is clearly past the lake, as the burial room is just two chambers beyond the lake. Furthermore, the map clearly indicates arched roofs for the room past the lake, and if you know anything about architecture and map-making, you know arched roofs are sturdy, built to last, built to support. Built for a vault.

Above you (through the well) you can see only darkness. It seems the sun has set on the surface while you've pored over the map.
