"Try exchanging two paintings-start with the one that shows the door, and a random one from the hallway." Arvin explains from a safe distance.

Of course, Twin is neither man nor woman but an unholy eldritch abomination like every other Bay12er. The difference is they hide it better.

You go toward the painting across from the entrance, grab it with one hand (as the other hand is holding the torch) and lift it off its nail. The instant you do so a hissing sound emanates from the floor, like air being sucked through a straw. Looking behind you, you no longer see the arched entrance - only a solid wall.

Outside the chamber, the entrance has disappeared. The staircase now leads up to nothing, the arched entrance is gone and a rock wall is in its place.

What do you do?

Arvin presumably watches the doorway vanish from the other end. He hears a voice calling from the other end...

"Ah, I suggest placing the painting back in it's original place, sir!" He shouts.

"I'm a woman!" Astra shouts back, before putting the paintings back.

LOL

You stand on tiptoe and try to catch the nail with the string. After a few failed attempts (after which, you're surprisingly short of breath) you manage to pin the painting back up. Instantly, the hissing stops and there is a whoosh of air into the chamber, as the entrance reappears.

On the other side, the rest of the party experiences a sudden wind into the chamber when the entrance reappears.

Astra slides to the ground against the wall. "Not spikes." she says, taking deep breaths.

"Ah, my mistake...anyway, are you alright?

...It seems to me the trap wasn't poison air...but the lack of air, caused by the removal of the entrance painting."

He taps his staff on the ground, thinking.

"Anyway, we know it's probably safe to move the other ones, now-as long as the entrance is intact. And in theory, switching the painting to the opposite wall would open the entrance forward...though we'll all have to be in there to do so.

Try moving one of the hall way paintings now, exchanging one for the other-see if anything is different. Leave the entrance alone."

Comply.

I'm assuming the rest of the party is still outside the chamber.

You (Astra) turn toward one of the side paintings (let's say the one on the left) and lift it out of its nail. Nothing happens this time. No hissing, no strange disappea-wait...now the column of treasure is gone!

Put it back.

((If the treasure returns:)) "Should we see if it still disappears when someone brings it out of the room?"

((If it doesn't:)) Take it off again

You put back the painting and the column reappears, exactly as it was
