"Should we see if it still disappears when someone brings it out of the room?"
"I still don't think we want to mess with that treasure... The paintings may not be the only way to get yourself killed in this room."

"I like treasure, though. Let's try some more experiments, yes?"

Action: Do the following-have someone remove the painting once more, making the pillar vanish. Arvin places his staff in the spot where the pillar vanished (upright in one of the tiny holes, if possible). Place the painting back where it originally was.

(( There are no tiny holes where the pillar is/used to be, its just an empty space in the center:

^ Kind of like that, but obviously more holes.

((Ah well, let's use my hat then?))

You (Arvin) give your hat to Astra, then leave the chamber. Astra tucks the hat under her arm (she needs a free hand to carry the painting), flattening the point of it, to your displeasure. Then Astra grabs the painting and removes it from the wall. The pillar disappears. She drops the hat about where the pillar was, then puts the painting back. The pillar reappears. The hat is no where to be seen. Not in the pillar, not anywhere else.

"You're hat's gone. Would it reappear if we removed the painting?"

"Ah, my poor hat...but, better you and me, old friend.

Remove the painting once more."

As seems to be the trend, comply.

The pillar disappears, the hat reappears. Still a little flattened, but no worse for the wear

Arvin picks up his hat and places it on his head, slightly askew.

"Alright, so my plan to stand in the middle there, and pluck the treasure unharmed has a slight problem. Being the vanishing to another dimension-plane in between. I'm not sure where my poor old hat went, but I don't really want to find out personally...let's try something else."

Action: Now, try exchanging the painting we've been using, for one in corner of the opposite wall. See what happens.

(( Please note that the painting is smack in the middle of each wall, aligned with the pillar so that only one face of the pillar is facing the painting - not on the corner. ))

You remove the painting on the right. The pillar disappears, on cue. You walk over to the other painting. You put your torch on one of the holes on the ground (to free up your other hand) and grab the other painting with your right hand. Then you carefully place the first painting on the opposite wall. Nothing happens. You grab your torch from the floor, and put the other painting on the opposite wall. The pillar reappears, and nothing seems to be different - except...a few glances back and forth from painting to pillar, reveals that the position of the treasure has flipped, matching the paintings.

Everyone moves into the chamber. You prepare yourselves as someone (Astra?) lifts the painting of it's mark. As before, as soon as the painting is lifted the entrance disappears and the floor begins to hiss. You run over to the opposite wall (where the entrance previously was)...to your horror, there is no where to pin the painting.

What do you do?
