 You head to the main gate and it takes you half and hour. The gate it opened to about 3/4 of completely open. Where do you wait. You can see open field to either side of the door out of the city. You can even see the forest off in the distance. where do you want to wait for the thieves

The wood-elf stands in the middle of the gate, watching the street for people clearly stealing a child, with his fingers lightly resting on the sword.

((you have been to the forest for 3 weeks in total in the span of 2 months to my knowledge. I am sorry but I find it kind of fitting you made a druid who lives in a forest only for you to be going to a forest so frequently. I just guessed))

 In about an hour-ish a man ends up walking to the gate to leave. but just then Crow comes and flys around his head. maya knows it is Steel's crow.

 you see a raven fly off from the Captain goes and stand by the wall across from the gate you are ask. he doesn't let you through the gate but you can stand in the shade out of view, and you wait.

as they get close the guard ask them  the same question he asked you.

one replies "My destination is along this river so I thought i would take this exit. The other here were going to accompany me. I wanted to show them a fine drink at my destination"
