JOURNAL OF KUBUK LILARNOKIM, 4th Obsidian, Year 4

The fools that have placed themselves in charge of this fortress known as Swelteredhelms lack vision..... only 4 years ago we lived happily, albeit fearfully in our family holes, now we find ourselves under the influence of Queen Rigoth, a wonderful yet simple-minded dwarf whose love for her people is matched only in her inabilty to see that Ral Dolushastesh controls everything under her less than vigilant watch.

This cannot stand.

This fortress, carved in a godforsaken stretch of land known as Nidostled Esesh, is doomed already. Perhaps only I possess the talent and the foresight to see our people not just survive, but thrive in this harsh land. Already we are beset by goblins, Ral (the so called "General") sees fit to leave the gates open, foolishly confident in the mettle of his "warriors". Only dwarven ingenuity will see us through generations of dwarves to come, to live in safety with no fear of what the gods themselves may see fit to waylay our people.

Plans are being made.... there are a few, so few, who share my vision of a fortress built from the ground down to hold the heart of our civilization in safety. Few they may be their determination is admirable.

Queen Rigoth has seen fit to found a new outpost nearby in the mountains, to serve as a new line of defense against the goblin menace in the east. Of course this was Ral's idea, and as such it was poorly planned and I needn't take more than one look to know the location he would choose means only death to the poor souls chosen to found it.

Only I can see that Ral's plan does not come to fruition.

JOURNAL OF KUBUK LILARNOKIM, 20th Obsidian, Year 4

It has succeeded.

My followers managed to sabotage the caravan prior to the doomed souls embarking to gods know where. I have used what little influence I have with Queen Rigoth to take charge of the foundation of this new outpost. Little do they know this outpost will not be a line of defense, but the new mountainhome, meticulously planned and executed. In due time Queen Rigoth will be moved there, but for now it is essential she and Ral stay ignorant of my plans.

JOURNAL OF KUBUK LILARNOKIM, 20th Sandstone, Year 4

The pawns are set in place, the caravan has been loaded to ensure a quick foundation. The brave, glorious seven dwarves who have volunteered to set these events in motion have pledged absolute loyalty to the nation of The Ferocious Rack of Spinning, even should they fail they stand worthy of recognition.

Now all that remains is to wait, only a few months and they shall found this new fortress, a fortress to stand the tests of time. In a few short years I shall join them and personally oversee the execution of this grand plan.

Soon we shall find ourselves in the promised land, we attempted to brainstorm a new name for this grand place and only one name was uttered. Only one name would do for such a grand undertaking.

None too soon shall the people of this world, good or evil know this name.

Plannedcrafted

Let it begin.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello fellow overseers, long time lurker, first time poster, this marks my first attempt at a community world. My previous forts starting back in 34.1 have provided me with excessive amount of !!FUN!! and driven my significant others into full tantrum spirals.

Time well spent I say.

I set about to create an epic fortress, starting early in the world with the intent of creating an indefatigable stronghold for the dwarves of this world, to survive to worlds end, and perhaps beyond. What happened was an occasionally boring, and immensely rewarding experience.

As I write this, Isonrigoth idles away, it's 143 current inhabitants living a life beyond their predecessors wildest dreams, in 3 months time this fortress shall be sealed and retired, it's 25 year history paving the way for the next generation of fortresses to expand this realm of Nidostled Esesh "The Ferocious Rack of Spinning", to make safe this continent for all of dwarfkind.

Lofty goals you say? I wouldn't have it any other way.

So you ask, what makes this fortress so unique? How should this fortress succeed where so many meticulously planned and executed fortresses have succumbed to the evils of the world? Well frankly it's largely luck, this fortress has had a significantly large horseshoe situated firmly in it's egresses, there were certainly occasions where Isonrigoth found itself facing unexpected, and very deadly threats, only to have it's inhabitants show their true mettle. Legendary warriors sacrificing themselves to contain FB's poised to gut Isonrigoth from the inside were not an uncommon occurrence, entire squads lost to syndromes which left them languishing blind and paralyzed in their beds until the time came when I could only end their misery, the tombs and graveyard tell the story of the brave souls who have made this fortress what it is.

My only regret for this fortress is I did not chronicle it, perhaps it's early history is better lost in time.

Let's start with our nobles:

Queen Rigoth "Wheeluttered" Kolgutid

You wish you had Ms. Kolgutid as your monarch. In 15 years she has not made a mandate, nor made a complaint. So determined was I to keep her as the lifetime monarch she is now a Legendary 5 wrestler, and Legendary 2 swordsdwarf.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Duke Kubuk "Patternedochre" Lilarnokim

The mastermind and my avatar of this fort, his insatiable love of crowns, cabinets, and leather armor; while occasionally irritating, has only generated three criminals. Mayor of 22 years and Legendary broker, he too has spent years mastering combat and is currently training as an all around metalworker.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Chief Justice Edem "Conjuredwheels" Tusungkol

Instituted as Hammerer and Captain of the Guard a few years ago, the inhabitants of this fort look to her to keep peace and order, a job she is all too happy to administer. This legendary hammerdwarf with her Adamantine hammer has only had to dole out justice once in nigh 25 years. A fact no one begrudges. (In true Dwarf fortress style this climbed to 3 criminals while idling through the last year, still have no idea what punishment if any was handed to the other two, the first poor soul got a hammering and made a full recovery)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Champion Goden "Blushwhip the Infamous Cosmos" Umerbomrek Sedishkordam

Legendary 5 Wrester, Legendary 5 Axedwarf, Legendary 5 Teacher - 62 Kills. What more could you ask for?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Militia Commander Stakud "Rulersteel the Prime Pearls of Sacrifice" Iliddeler Zelerkovest Etom

Legendary 5 Axedwarf - 33 Kills

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Honorable Mention Edem "Roughtin the Stable Devourer of Vising" Dumatakrul Nulralnoshtath Tost

Legendary 5 Spearmaster - 40 Kills

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Total Fortress Dead/Missing: 4829

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that you've met the nobles, let's look at some stats.

What makes a Dwarf Fortress indefatigable?

Why BOOZE of course, how much could a fort max 145 need? How about 50000 servings. Stored in blast-proof rooms well underground.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Food: Can't do without it, usually hovering around 35000 prepared meals.

Kitchens, dining hall, primary food stocks, prison level 1 and the armory

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Water: Sadly necessary, the surface brook has been sealed and feeds a cistern and 4 wells, more than enough for generations.

Cisterns

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Defences: You name it. The highly trained, adamantine clad military of Isonrigoth serves as a last line of defense. The ballista battery, magma pumps, archery tower, and adamantine bridge system have made child's play of many a goblin and troll invasion. The caverns which have been extensively explored stand sealed from the fortress, the dwarves gain great amusement watching FB's battle it out underground.

The Main Gate

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The Military (DFHack for simplicity)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Resources: No worries, aside from a tragic lack of iron in this location. The adamantine vein discovered in cavern level 3 provided all a dwarf could ever want. Monstrous quantities of flux stone made steel manufacturing a process of goblinite harvesting and trade. Numerous above and below ground farms provide many times more plants than Isonrigoth could need and a number of breeding pairs of animals (Draltha, Goat, Yak, and Llama) provide all the meat and milk we could want.
Can't forget the half dozen birds and cave crocodile producing eggs in endless supply. And the over 40 hives keeping us in mead.

The Stockpiles

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

THE STOCKPILES

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

THE METAL!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Fortress Value: Not to be forgotten, the number of legendary monsters that have NOT been attracted to the fortress is surprising. I managed to sail past my ultimate goal and the fortress stands at a current value of 109,000,000 dwarfbucks.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now for the awesome part, while building this fortress I decided to include as many megaprojects as I could, if for no other reason than to allow other overseers to have an example of how to build such things as:

An ~110 level pump stack brings magma up from deep beneath the magma sea, this provides magma for the MASSIVE magma powered foundry, and feeds the cistern which supplies the secondary pump stack which can safely flood the front gate if need be, as well as the obsidian production facility secured underground. Largely mined out, all three cavern levels had to have structures built in place to keep pumping upwards, certainly one of the more challenging engineering feats I have done in this game.

The Magma Intake (4 levels below the magma sea)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Special Surprise, just in case anyone wanted an EPIC battleground to clear HFS

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This is powered by 11 dwarven water reactors, numerous linkages allow you to pump magma where you would like, the reactor complex is capable of running the entire pump stack, as well as EITHER the magma or water flooding mechanism at the front gate. (Yes the front gate is it's own magma-proof obsidian farm, nothing quite like turning your enemies into useable rock)

Speaking of foundries, I embarked this fortress with the intent of working with magma, which I had not delved into in DF (My previous fort was an exercise in tree farming, pump stacks, and minecart systems) The 30 Magma Forges, 30 Magma Smelters, 4 Magma Glass Furnaces and Magma Kiln crafted from obsidian and steel insist this was a successful venture.

Foundry, water reactors, awesome

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And beneath the foundry

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The barracks and a number of statue gardens are built with glass roofs to minimize cave adaptation, a lookout tower/statue garden built high above the fortress and made entirely of glass blocks ensures absolute security and nowhere for invaders to hide. My personal favorite being the Council Chamber and nearby statue garden, which allows citizens a safe view of the front gate from above, and many a dwarf has thrown a party during siege time to watch the invaders slaughtered on the doorstep while enjoying a fine meal.

The Council Chamber and Statue Garden

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dual dwarven atom smashers serve as the refuse piles, purposely built deep underground to minimize a necromancers ability to create undead within the fort.

A textbook mass-pitting system, two fully-stocked hospitals, the 3 z-level silver throne room, and the absolutely monstrous stockpile and workshop complex round out this fortress to be borderline, if not fully, epic.

Throne Rooms, Hospitals, Wells, Offices

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Nobles/VIP Bedrooms (Can never have enough cabinets)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Primary workshop complex, lots of gears  ;D

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Artifacts: Too many, six and a half pages worth of artifacts and named weapons/armor. Not one dwarf has left a strange mood incomplete. I cherry-picked a few of the best and my personal favorites such as:

Kubuk's adamantine bed

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A 2,700,000 DB spike (The description is the most boring thing ever)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Tost Cagith

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A 2,000,000 DB bracelet

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And of course everyone's favorite dwarf immortalized in green glass

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Last but not least is the most celebrated artifact of this fortress, it's creation took Plannedcrafted from successful to legendary, behold TORASOZON

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And to round it out a couple more impressive legendary weapons

Zozegen Lunrudfikod - Battle Axe

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Kenilrom - Battle Axe

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Best of all is The Fortress of Adamant, a huge creation of bauxite, glass, obsidian, and adamantine built over two decades to withstand anything I could imagine. Magma-proof and with deep foundations this tower was built to withstand the end of times, should the world find itself 30 levels deep in magma we will persevere, in comfort, underground.

*WARNING* LARGE IMAGE

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A note on DFHack: Clean was used a few times to keep FPS manageable, only Mup the beast caused nightmares with animals walking through syndrome-infected liquids, it was a FUN time for sure.

So ends the introduction, I have some ideas as to what I shall do with this world going forward, soon I shall being looking for a new embark in this wide world.
Until then, keep on dwarfing.

Save files should be up tomorrow, going to upload the primary save for those who wish to brave low FPS or explore, a world save for legends and for interested overseers to explore Cadenianenu, and if I'm feeling frisky I'll get an adventure save ready that doesn't spawn you on top of the glass tower (Not a recommended experience unless you enjoy lying unconscious on a fortress for an indeterminate amount of time)

Shameless self-bump.  8)

Fortress save file (standalone, 01-01-0030) generated with Phoebus Prepack 40.24 and DFHack r2 30MB

If anyone would like more detailed pictures on the magma/water gate flooding/obsidian generator let me know, I'm still pondering an efficient way to show all the Z-levels of this spectacle. (Magma pumps up from below the entrance via the 4 grates pictured, water is pumped in 2 z-levels up through an artifact adamantine grate)

Stay tuned

JOURNAL OF KUBUK LILARNOKIM, 1st Granite, Year 30

By my beard these 23 years have flown by in a blur, I would swear it was only a few short years ago the caravan departed from Keshakzon.

Finally the plan has been completed, all of our wildest dreams have been brought to life. Our adamantine clad army has been disbanded, the citizens have been given their leave to do as they each see fit. Queen Rigoth and I have been trained and armed to stand guard over this fortress, and stand guard we shall until death takes us.

The caravan has been loaded, the brave seven dwarves have been extensively prepared to write the next chapter in our nation's history.

And so with little fanfare they depart, bound for The Tower of Holes on The Amethyst Continents to strengthen our relationship with the humans with which our nation has had no contact. The site was carefully chosen for it's bountiful and varied resources, though goblins again threaten us from the east.

Armok be praised, my job here is done.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 01-15-0030

BY ARMOKS GREAT GLISTENING BEARD!

After a journey of many weeks, we finally arrived at the location Kubuk gave us. I hadn't yet had a chance to gather my thoughts or belongings when I feel a poke at my shoulder. I turn to see our miner Urist Tunfikod with her mouth so far agape I was concerned for a fleeting moment a forgotten beast may fly, screaming, from the chasm.

"What is it Urist"

*unintelligible gurgling*

"By my beard lass, WHAT IS IT!?"

She was pointing, with shaking hands, at the cliffside not 20 urists from where we stood.

GOLD

Great seams of gold, plain as day, beckon us inside of the mountain.
After a few moments I found myself attempting to gather my lower jaw which had migrated towards my feet. I wandered over to the side of the plateau on which we stood.
Veins of silver, flux stone, and bituminous coal smile at us from the mountainside.

Ah Kubuk, that artifact horseshoe you keep stuffed up your rear-end is still paying dividends.

I turn back to Urist to see our party staring at the miner, still not fully back to her senses.
Libash, the peasant, seemingly reads my mind and smacks the miner upside the head, yelling in her ear

"STRIKE THE EARTH!"

After a brief moment to gather her wits, a wide grin appears on her face.

"Believe me Libash, I don't ever intend to stop."

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 03-10-0030

No sooner had we finalized the start of our mining operations that I realized this would be an immense task for a single dwarf. That, combined with the immediate need to start smelting gold and cutting gems, meant I needed to acquire our spare pick and learn a new skill. The job ahead is monumental but Urist and I are up to the task.

The others completed moving our stockpiles just inside the gate beside our future trade depot, the meeting hall/dining room has been excavated so our dwarves should stop milling around outdoors; and I also made some changes to the assigned jobs to make our foundation a little easier.

I turned to the peasant Libash and was quickly reminded she alone has skill in combat, I assigned her as the militia commander and bade she collect the silver war hammer we thought wise to bring with us. She was all too happy to be armed and ready.

On we move to excavate the kitchens and food stockpiles, at this rate we shall be sitting pretty come winter.

The first wave of migrants have arrived!

Cilob Kinas has made the journey all the way from plannedcrafted! By the gods what a stroke of luck

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

SOMEONE FORGE THIS DWARF A SPEAR!

I explained the situation to Libath, rather than being dejected at losing her place as militia commander, she nearly squealed with glee at the prospect of training under a legendary master.

Axedanced shall prosper.

Also arrived was Onget Nishrab of Plannedcrafted, exalted creator of Tost Cagith and legendary stone crafter.

This fort gets more interesting by the day.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 07-15-0030

My old friend Stinthad Vodkesdal arrived today with the dwarven caravan, I shall never get used to seeing a liason girt in adamantine armor, what a sight to behold. The workshops are still largely being built, but it should not be long until we have something to trade.
Let's hope they're patient.

I made simple requests of anvils and booze from the mountainhome. Don't stiff us next year, I told him, we're not even getting warmed up yet.

Also of note I was a bit tired of seeing Chief Medical Dwarf Dr. Taupe standing around, I told him to go fishing, he all too happily obliged.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 08-22-0030

The caravan left today, we never did manage to get anything worthwhile crafted up but no matter, we are busy brewing and crafting all we need to be comfortable until they return.

More migrants arrived!

Olon Usthem - Legendary miner who even brought his own pick
Solon Usankubuk - Legendary grower
Datan Alathet - Legendary warrior with 43 kills
Besmar Tosidmeng - Legendary metalsmith, creator of Masosemen Rasuk Mishos
Dakost Rabas - Legendary carpenter, creator of Adsokan Sommilol
Tun Logemborlon - Legendary weaponsmith, creator of Libadegdoth. Sorry to see she still has the serious hip and lung injury from year 22
Astesh Logemetas - Legendary weaver

BY MY BEARD!

Rakust Teshkadustuth has arrived... Legendary metalsmith and creator of the almighty Torasozon, pride of all dwarves.

If I had known you all were coming I would have simply named this fort Isonrigoth II

The workshops have been excavated and have mostly been built, the stills are firing up and soon the farms will soon be excavated.
Despite the dormitory being usable I need to redouble my bed-building.

With the arrival of Olon Usthem I decide to retire my pick, many other jobs need tending in this fort.

Suddenly I hear a shout from a couple levels above the meeting hall, a number of dwarves rush to see what has happened to our miner only to hear raucous, almost maniacal, laughter coming from above.

Digging the farms the miners hit FOUR massive veins of magnetite.

Next year will be one to remember.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 12-30-0030

Our first year at Axedanced comes to a close.

Our wood furnace and smelter are working full-bore turning the logs we've gathered and ores we've mined out so far into valuable goods, steel production will start post-haste in the new year.

Phase one of the bedrooms have been completed, our first harvest of plump helmets has filled our stockpiles and the craftsdwarves's shop is working round-the-clock producing pots to hold our bountiful alcohol.

We had a brief meeting, the now 17 of us, to decide our priorities in the new year.

Datan Alathet was the only dwarf with anything to add to the conversation.

"You're the armok-be-damned manager, bookkeeper and overseer now, how about YOU worry about the future.
We have work to get back to."

I smiled and dismissed the dwarves, the front entrance shall be the first on our list, the steel bridge and elevated access just got bumped to top priority....

As I gathered my notes and went to return to my inventory. A little, almost imperceptible voice whispered something at the back of my mind,

"You fool, it's too easy...... what have you missed?"

I pondered for a brief moment........ Bah, I'll have time for paranoia later, there's work to be done.

End of year one

Love it :)  That is one heck of an impressive fortress you have, and the new mountain looks equally promising.  Might even be too easy, with so many Legendaries from your first Fort showing up :P  Did you build an Arena or similar live entertainment facility?

Indeed, I was really excited to try retiring and building a nation basically from scratch, I had no idea the whole damned fortress would show up (year two is half done and it only gets more awesome) I had a mass-pitting system that sat idle the vast majority of the time simply because capturing was nowhere near as fun as incinerating/slaughtering outright. I tried (and failed) to capture a GCS using FB webs, that would have been a different story altogether.

You can upload to DFMA and use the side-view option to let us take in the impressive size of your ultimate pump stack!

DFMA you say..... that sounds like a project for tomorrow, and Armok only knows what this weekend will bring, the weatherman says cold and rainy, I say perfect weather to strike the earth!

I had to omit a large part of the stack to get the file size down so it would upload (72 levels, I think i'll have to make an upload just for the stack) but I'm sure you'll get the idea.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 01-11-0031

The elven caravan has arrived, even as I write this I wonder why even I find that notable.
Perhaps they will have some worthwhile seeds, more likely they will sit and wait at the depot until they leave.
Screw em.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 01-22-0031

Another wave of migrants!

Libash Stoodguild - Legendary furnace operator
Kumil Lucidwire - Creator of Ammarang, Legendary weaponsmith, metalsmith and dyer
Meng Holdcudgel - Legendary marksdwarf
Zuglar Speechchannel - Legendary wrestler
Unib Oilycradle - Legendary carpenter
Datan Mouthbridges - Legendary fisherdwarf
Vabok Cleanedboot - Legendary cook and fighter, creator of Shesamzenon
Morul Fordmines - Legendary metalsmith and marksdwarf
Lorbam Gildtrenches - Presser
Stodir Mountaininks - Legendary Mason, creator of Osteshgulnas Akrelittas
Solon Scalyringed - Legendary grower and bone carver, creator of Oshurgoden Volalilon
Onol Fencedpalm the Indigo Attack - Legendary speardwarf and weaver
Kubuk Ibeshstakud - Legendary weaver and dyer
Etur Wanedceiling - Legendary axedwarf and grower
Rith Violentmerchants - Legendary furnace operator
Morul Netcrown - Legendary metalcrafter
Asmel Workedtraded - Legendary engraver, whose handiwork decorates every level of Plannedcrafted
Tun Frostybodice - Creator of Vagushadas Akir Shithath
Etur Fightmirrors - Creator of Durad Aned

This brings our population up to a hearty 36 dwarves, the animals they brought with them shall keep out bellies full for weeks.
The entrance will have to wait, we need more bedrooms and more farms.

Morul Kibtorish announces a party in the dining room to celebrate the new arrivals. I am incredibly impressed when all the new members of our fort immediately file out of the dining room and get to work.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 02-09-0031

Datan Mouthbridges has been possessed, a couple of dwarves mentioned to me he had been acting out of character lately.
I've got my fingers crossed in the hopes we will have what he needs.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 02-13-0031

Thread and cloth, of course he needs thread and cloth after claiming a mason's workshop, I have the dwarves haul our selection of cut gems to the depot, those stinking elves better have some, burn my beard if they turn out to be useful for once.

No of course they don't have thread, curse those useless beast-fodder.
I deconstruct the granite trade depot and tell them to take a hike, as soon as they've left I set plans for the new gold trade depot.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 03-24-0031

Datan, lacking the damned cloth, went insane. I activated the military and Astesh the swordmaster made short work of him

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A blemish on the face of this fortress but no matter, at least the mason's workshop can produce some coffins, I set the miners to work excavating our graveyard.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 05-07-0031

I was perusing my now finally up-to-date stocks of the fortress and imagine my surprise when I found what Asmel Workedtraded managed to sneak past Kubuk's ban on adamantine exports:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Sneaky dwarves, I didn't even realize he was a miner.
I double check my stocks and burst out laughing, Tun Frostybodice gets points for being sneaky as well

I make note to keep an eye on incoming migrants, I know Kubuk kept Torasozon locked deep in Isonrigoth, forbidden behind a locked door after it's original owner died, but a dwarf can dream; and I'd rather it be here than stolen by some filthy goblin.

The barracks has been carved out and set up for the military, they waste no time getting to individual training, I need one more migrant wave and they will train full time.
The masons are busy smoothing vast tracts of the fortress, may as well make this place look nice!

Phase two of the bedrooms are complete, housing for all the dwarves and more!

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 05-16-0031

Speaking of migrants

New to the fortress:

Urist Wirecalms - Legendary weaver, clothier and grower. Creator of Atultokthat
Iton Catmanors - Legendary organizer and marksdwarf
Olon Whimtraded - Legendary swordsdwarf
Id Rainwalls - Legendary swordsdwarf
Thotig Boltedtrotted - Legendary bone carver and wood burner, creator of Stistrastangak Tunom Tolun
Ducim Calmedlancers - Legendary speardwarf and clothier
Kosoth Kissedpainted - Legendary woodcrafter, creator of Elbemrab Uvash Dezrem
Sodel Trampledlabors - Legendary potash maker, creator of Shazakkurol
Meng Carryfurnace - Legendary weaver and grower

This bring us to 44 dwarves, including a now full legendary military with little to no equipment

HA! Remembered to check their inventories on their way in, yet more works of Plannedcrafted have been spirited away.

-Nozush Siknug-

-Bisekemath-

OOC: The game won't let me zoom to the items, still trying to verify who has them.
UPDATE: FFWD 2 months and the items are gone from the stocks screen, someone is hiding something....... I checked Ducim's belongings and there's no sign of either.

Thieves at the gate!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Luckily they were spotted by a woodworker and quickly scurried away, I must get a war dog trained and situated at the entrance
The military started training two months ago, I've decreed they shall be equipped in steel armor with dual battle axes, the spearmasters were less than excited until I reminded them this is largely for training purposes, naturally this first squad shall be Axedanced's Axedancers.

We excavated a sphalerite vein, but the hunt for deeper iron sources continues, the first 10 steel helms have been forged and the second set of workshops are being mined.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 07-07-0031

Sakzul Lullmansion finally broke today, he's been muttering for a fortnight about being one of the few dwarves without a masterwork to his name in this fortress.
We're still shy a few of the trickier items, I have my fingers crossed we won't lose another dwarf to madness.

He claims a craftsdwarfs workshop and immediately begins gathering wood, metal bars, bones...... and begins working with a great purpose. I encourage everyone to go about their business however there is always a strange, muted overtone to the daily tasks when an artifact is in the making.

Personally I hope it will reflect the glorious foundation of this fortress, and not the madness of Datan Mouthbridges.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 07-11-0031

The caravan from the mountainhome has arrived, I'm quite glad I pushed those orders of gold instruments and flasks, this should be a profitable exchange.

All hail Sakzul Lullmansion! Legendary woodcrafter and creator of the first artifact of Axedanced, Vosutlelum.

This can only be a good omen.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 07-18-0031

Traded today with the merchants, took a few bars, some seeds, bins of cloth, thread, and leather; as well as plenty of fish, cheese, and booze.
All bought with a couple of instruments and a couple of flasks. I love GOLD (and legendary crafters, the 2 masterwork instruments were 7200*)

Stinthad stopped by my office, I told him to bring us iron, pig iron and leather, we shall not want for much else.

OOC: Plannedcrafted had no leather but what we made, the original mountainhome never sent us a single urist of cloth or leather, yet again it's too easy........

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 08-03-0031

Yet another wave of migrants has braved the journey in search of riches. Good choice my friends.

I chuckled to myself as I saw the figure hobble painfully over the mountain.

Zon Swallowedstake, this poor old geezer just absolutely won't quit. He was severely injured back in year 11 but the Doctor managed to stitch him back together with pig tail and adamantine sutures. He's not the happiest or most charming dwarf, he is missing his right hand, his left arm is useless, and his right foot is a burden.
I can't believe he's still standing after 20 years, to think he made the journey here will boggle my mind for a long while; but hell, there's room for even the most bedraggled old dwarf here in Axedanced.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Onol Metalsyrup - Legendary brewer
Kivish Fancyink - Baby daughter of Onol Metalsyrup and Zon Swallowedstake
Tekkud Oilfortune - Legendary axedwarf
Besmar Wheelsleaders - Legendary furnace operator and wood burner. Creator of Tunurdalzat Thumodkish
Ast Growthgild - Legendary gem cutter, creator of Bomrekdodok Zengod Nastid
Bembul Admiredcloistered - Legendary grower and wood crafter. Creator of Unolbobet
Melbil Winggirders - Legendary grower, herbalist, glassmaker and dyer. Creator of Muthkatusur
Zas Tradeesteem - Legendary grower (and observer?) Creator of Anurostuk

Our forts population now sits at 53, no time to waste on the third bedroom phase.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 10-01-0031

I'm not totally sold on the likeness, but I have to say I look quite good in gold  :)

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 11-10-0031

Tekkud Oilfortune has been acting increasingly reserved as of late, today our suspicions were confirmed.
As he stood in the jeweler's workshop where he had been working diligently, he stopped and announced to the other dwarves he had seen a vision of a great work of art, and saying no more he took stock of the workshop where he stood, shouted excitedly, and began to craft......

Someone shouts my name from a level above, a dwarf hands me a message that one of our war dogs is engaged in mortal combat with an elephant, 4 in total are surveying the outside of our fortress.
I make note of this, however I would rather lose a war dog than risk injury to one of our warriors who only wear helms at the moment I decide to survey to scene to find, much to my amusement, the war dog is laying unconcious from overexertion and is completely unharmed, the wounded elephant retreating fearfully before the dog recovers.

Moments later the dog charges again, and they both fall over from exertion.
A shout from below informs me that Tekkud has finished his work, I hurry to the workshops.

Tekkud has created the most wonderful addition to the barracks, all hail our new Legendary gemcutter!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Still overcome with wonder at the new artifact, I make my way back towards the surface to observe, much to my dismay, that the war dog and elephant are still going at it, and the three remaining elephants are trying to help their herd member, I decide to engage The Axedancers to prevent any threat to the civilians from these great beasts.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 11-28-0031

Zuglar the Broker makes short work of the elephant

I suppose the training time has been paying off.
No sooner is the one elephant killed that the other three retreat from our lands. I hope they never return.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Expedition Leader, 12-30-0031

Another productive year comes to a close at Axedanced, we have undertaken exploratory mining deep beneath the fortress with mixed success, our stockpiles fill day by day and these dwarves work tirelessly, an idle dwarf is a rare sight in these halls.

Construction of the front entrance continues steadily. Though complaints are rarely heard in the meeting hall, I realize that we have nearly another years worth of work ahead of us without any new projects.
Our end of year meeting is somber but enjoyed by all, to have so many legendary craftsdwarves on hand for this task is a grand thing indeed, nigh every dwarf is entirely content seeing their hard work used for the benefit of their kin.

Absolutely my friend! At this point let me know if you have a choice of dwarf and I will set you up with your bio and history as best I can provide. If you have ever wanted to see your dwarf live a full life and die of old age, this may be your bet.
Of course on a side note, winning at DF is losing at DF, Armok knows I'm already contemplating war with those damn pointy-eared ponces just to shake the cobwebs off the military.

Hell, this is a community thread, and as much I enjoy playing this world; fortresses full of FUN are what keep us coming back, so I'll consider any requests.
Right now I'm intending to retire this fort between year 15-20, build another, and then maybe reclaim plannedcrafted just to see how Queen Rigoth and Baron Lilarnokum have fared.

The kobold thieves make another attempt on the fortress and are spotted no closer than last time. I send a note to Cilob to remind the populace of the ever-present threat of kidnapping.

The elven caravan arrives, also on this date: nothing interesting happens whatsoever.

The human merchants have arrived at last! The whole fortress waits with bated breath to meet the stalwart folk who made the journey.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Manager, 04-15-0032

We bought all the cloth and leather the humans carried, a wonderful selection of booze, and some food stocks that Vabok will make into exceptional meals for us.
We traded them some fine gems and golden crafts, their eyes flew wide open when they saw the quality of goods for offer, as the trading finished I overheard them talking to one another about buying another fleet of caravans.

I send orders down to the clothiers shop to build a second workshop and begin manufacturing fresh clothes for everyone.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Manager, 04-20-0032

More migrants! My poor hand is still sore from doing intake documentation on the last bunch! And to boot I haven't checked anyone for adamantine goods!

New to the fortress:

Rakust Lanceshores - Legendary glassmaker, creator of Sibnirkab Kezkig Niral
Vabok Quillglazed - Legendary axedwarf
Lorbam Sparkmanors - Legendary miner and siege engineer, creator of Sestaningul
Iton Armorbears - Legendary metalsmith, creator of Nicatalmosh Sudir Etest
Rith Tradeshores - Legendary weaver and glassmaker
Thob Pillarthunders - Legendary axedwarf, miner, and grower
Besmar Brassoranges - Trapper
Tun Pagedwheel - Legendary speardwarf
Kulet Stakefuture - Legendary stone crafter, creator of Urolrigoth
Cilon Worldring - Legendary marksdwarf and organizer

A relatively small intake but the Town of Axedanced is now 86 dwarves strong!
I double checked the inventory, looks like no more adamantine goods have found their way here, what a shame.

As I was finishing the paperwork, another dwarf informed me they were having a party to celebrate the election of Morul Netcrown as mayor! I had no idea there was even an election..... well congratulations Morul, the booze shall flow freely tonight!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I went down to the dining room to offer him my congratulations and he wasted no time in reminding me of his unmet demands.
Demands!? He's an armok-be-damned elected official, we're supposed to make the demands!
I assign him some of the nicer quarters I had dug out, he's not getting my vote next year.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Manager, 05-06-0032

Less than a year in office and he's mandating the production of grates.... clearly he's gone mad with power already.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Manager, 05-24-0032

Tun Pagedwheel withdrew completely from society today, he hurriedly made his way down to the workshops and claimed the crafter's shop, the fortress waits in anticipation..... he gathers bones, cloth, and iron and begins his work.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Manager, 06-04-0032

All hail the Legendary bone carver Tun Pagedwheel!

Thieves in the fortress!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Gotcha you little bastard! I immediately order the Axedancers to make this Kobold regret he ever sought our hallowed halls. It's a damned shame the filth so easily retreat before the military can rally.
I relay orders to Cilob to keep the gate manned from now on.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Manager, 07-12-0032

Stinthad arrives right on schedule

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I notice they've brought 5 caravans instead of 3, we thusly commence hauling all of our wares to the depot.
Again Stinthad brings no news from the larger world, I request of him to simply bring us largely the same goods every year. He assured me they would do just that, as is tradition.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Manager, 07-18-0032

Another wave of migrants, I wonder if there will be any legendaries......

Edem Blowtrade - Legendary wood cutter, mason, furnace operator, and wood burner.
Sakzul Syruphelped - Legendary swordsdwarf
Zefon Indigopaddled - Legendary woodcutter
Mistem Shoregear - Legendary grower
Sibrek Metulber - Siege engineer

I think the logbook speaks for itself, a proper comparison would be a bit of a task, however it's safe to say there are more legendary than non-legendary dwarves in this fortress.

Journal of Erumara Anamiteb, Manager, 08-11-0032

Rith Tradeshores is the next to be taken by a fey mood, and she quickly makes her way to a clothier's shop. I hope she makes me a wonderful new pair of trousers!

The citizens watch anxiously as Rith gathers three bolts of cloth, and a large boulder of granite and hurriedly begins her work.
