Well, if we have poison squigs we can poison the Boss' fungus beer before we challenge him to a fight so we win easier.

Also, IIRC squig breeding operates on really stupid evolutionary principles. Want a fire-breathing squig? Take a squig and feed it hot, spicy liquids a lot. Want a hydra? Cut off the heads of a few other squigs and stitch them onto one squig.
