So I was wondering, does anyone know if it is possible to become the monarch of your civ?

maybe if your in the mountain homes & the king dies without you becoming an enemy of the civ, maybe you will be randomly chosen out of the other civilians, since in fort mode, when king dies someone in your fort become king.

If you can figure out where the capital is, ask about the local ruler and the person you asked will say "[...] The seat of <monarch> is also here."

Make a claim then stab him in the face? That would probably just give you the city, though.

That just makes you a lord, not a king. You'll have to inherit the position.

If you're willing to cheat, you could always bodyswap to his kid and kill him, thereby inheriting the title.

I've made a few worlds where one of my forts has an immediate monarch and I've taken them on occasion to go romp around.

One as a queen in a world with 11 surviving dorfs, mine, and some necromancers, she's a killer queen, dynamite, and laser beam, guaranteed to blow your mind, anytime!

Oh, sorry, I misread your original question (I thought you were asking how to find the monarch). I don't think it's possible to become the monarch in-game (bar DFHack).

An alternative would be to swap directly into the current monarch. However, you can' do anything as king so it isn't really worth effort to find him.

Is marriage implemented yet? If you kill the monarch's spouse, marry the monarch, then kill the monarch, you could be the ruler.

Theoretically it is. It is possible for an adventurer to marry while retired, if somewhat rare. But no control over that.

All the adventurers that I've checked the sexual orientation of were asexual. Including several from a creature that's almost always bisexual. So adventurers are probably automatically asexual and thus can't get married while retired.

Its a feature. Impregnating booze is a planned tech tree for dwarves and this is a sneak peek at it.
Unless you're past reproductive age. Then you're pretty much an extension of your kids' genitalia

I meant while playing - doesn't matter if you're asexual if a god is puppeting your body after all - but I suppose that'll wait until later.
