Actually, early gunpowder weapons were worse than bows in most respects except for training time. They were adopted for the same reason as crossbows: it's cheaper and easier to give a bunch of peasant conscripts two weeks of training with simple weapons than it is to maintain a population of yeomen who are master archers.

I'm assuming my monk can't catch and redirect bullets like it can with arrows, right?

Dwarmin, could we use the other supplements that WOTC published? Like the Eberron one?

If it's an official supplement that I can post here, you can use it. I'm still looking for all of them!

That Warforged is probably more balanced then mine...

If I redirect them, do I get the crit benefit and damage advantage? :v

Dwarmin, do you mind if I use a hybrid of the Slayer and Acolyte backgrounds?  Slayer's proficiencies and languages, Acolyte's equipment and a hybrid of their flavor (as well as Acolyte's class feature since I won't have a mark)?

Still, you aren't completely clueless to D&D, right? I mean, this is a game that's not going to be nice to newbies-it's designed to be pretty ruthless, hence the high score list. I had a problem in my last/current game where a player just didn't know what to do at all, and they ended up quitting because they weren't having fun.

I just want to make sure you'll have fun...the rules aren't hard to learn (5e is really simple), and I'll help you as best I can, but it's def something for me to think about when choosing players for this game.

Don't worry, I'm not clueless. I watched plenty of play-by-post games, read the whole players handbook twice (except stuff about clerics, bards, and rangers), and I've played other role-playing games.

I just wanted to make sure that it was acceptable for the game.
Wasn't really looking for criticism. Having received criticism: *anxiety intensifies*
But now that I know it's only alright, I'll go and fix it.

Human. Most races in DnD mature at the same rate, anyway, they just tend to live longer.

I was personally thinking something along the lines of 17-24. Training is useful, but in a world where it's actually necessary for proper combat one also needs to gain practical experience as early as possible.
