Alright. You all know why this is here. I'm bad at OPs.
Try and keep it clean, guys. Don't rage at each other. Don't start fights.

DEFINE
'MODERN'.
Contemporary.

EDIT: Or something in the 1800s-1950s, I guess.

DEFINE
'MODERN'.
Any game which development started after 2006-2007 (around that time) counts as a modern game.

The issue: best modern games have failed to be superior (particularly in gameplay, as the key element) to the best old games, despite the increased budgets, increased total amount of knowledge about how gameplay works, and the increased amount of people working in the area.

Discuss how to solve that one.

Nonono, that's not what I meant.
I meant, are we gonna be rational and present sources, or just 'is not! Is too!'?

Prove it, please. What do you consider the best modern games? And the best old games?

Anything post-1900.

Oh, you mean games, not music :P. I guess that I have to agree with the mid-2000s, although there are probably exceptions.

I don't quite think a topic this vague and going "Discuss" is the best course.

I mean? what do you mean, do you mean the ethics models presented in games? The ethics of making games? the ethics of gamers? all of the above?

See, the keyword there is best. Best is massively subjective. QUALITY is subjective.

And 2006-2007, eh? So...Let's see. That's over seven years of gaming. That's another console generation away.
Saying all of them were bad is unfair. It's generalization. And I highly doubt you've only played games from before then.

Also, if DF isn't modern because it started development before 2006/2007, then does that apply to other games? Any game, that started development before 2006/2007?

I don't quite think a topic this vague and going "Discuss" is the best course.

WTF thread lead up to this. I got tasked with making the thread. I'm bad at OPs. Someone PM me a better OP and I'll change it.

The discussion is about 'quality' of the games themselves, actually, if the WTF thread is anything to go by.
Anyway, yeah, Best is very much subjective.
Besides, Duke Nukem Forever.
