You sigh, signalling calmness. "Okay. I just can't tell you what I don't know, and I don't know anything about this Emily Burke."

At that moment, another officer leans through the doorway, rubbing his eyes, which are still rather red. The moustached one sitting across the table from you speaks again. "Well, the search of your place was inconclusive," at that word, the leaning officer winces a little, "so we may need to take another look." Hmm. You heard them when they were speaking to the bleary-eyed officer earlier. Temporary blindness and unable to remember anything specific. Sounds like he triggered one of your security runes.

"Officers, I've said many times I know nothing about an Emily Burke coming into town.  You've even looked in my house, and found nothing.  What is it going to take to convince you?  And how long are you going to hold me without a charge?"

We really shouldn't be talking to the cops without a lawyer. Do we have one? Can we call them? If we couple the 'without a charge' and 'I want a lawyer now' together, suddenly things get a lot more complicated for the cops.

You decide to change your approach, thinking it's been long enough. "Are you charging me with anything? I'm starting to feel like I should call my lawyer." You don't actually have a lawyer, but they don't know that, and you know you could get one far more easily than Emily. The ploy seems to work, as the cops are all silent for several seconds. While Emily was an outsider, and thus a fair target, you are known to the town. Well, at least as someone who doesn't cause trouble and is content to mind his own business while letting others mind theirs, but that counts for a lot. You might have an advantage to press here.
