Looking around, you see all the available chairs covered in papers and books and other various clutter, so you opt for the couch. You overcome your vertigo enough to walk over (god, your feet feel weird), then, realizing the couch seat is up about twice your height, you contemplate a jump. After taking a moment to gather your courage, you leap what seems to you like 12 feet up and somehow land just fine on the cushion. It's scary, but you try your best to calm down, sit still, and act natural.
Gregor opens the door to an unfamiliar man, holding a large, harnessed dog that seems to want to get in. You feel the hairs on your back involuntarily bristle up. "Can I help you, officers? And... is that a gun?" asks Greg.
"Hello sir," says the unfamiliar cop. "Has anyone else come to your door tonight?"
"Uh... not really, no," he answers.
"Well, we've been following this trail of broken brush and muddy footprints, right up you your porch it seems. You sure?"
"I went out to the wood shed earlier," Greg replies.
The unfamiliar cop crosses his arms and nods. "Mmmmm. Well, um, Charlie here," he tugs on the leash, "also seems to think this is the right direction. Mind if we come in out of the rain for a bit?"
"...um... okay...." His face is turned away from you, but he seems to be trying to stay blank.
The cop enters with the dog, followed (sure enough) by Officer Phil, holding a shotgun. The dog seems drawn to where you were standing while talking with Greg a minute ago, but after sniffing the spot, let's out a confused noise. "Are you looking for someone?" asks Greg.
"Mind if we have a look around?" asks the unknown cop.
"...Why would I? That is, sure." Greg shrugs. The dog begins sniffing the pendant, left lying on the table, quite intently, which Phil takes notice of. He walks over and around the coffee table, and looks right at you for a moment before crouching down to check under the couch and the table. The unnamed officer walks into the kitchen and peeks under the counter before turning back around to look at Greg. "Sir, would you mind accompanying us back to the station? We just need to ask a few questions."
"Ah, well, I can see you must be parked a bit far, and it's dark and rainy out there. I'd really rather not. Whatever you want to ask you can... um... ask it here..."
"Do you know anyone by the name of Emily Burke?" asks the officer.
"Emily Burke...?" You can see Greg keeping his face quite blank.
Officer Phil stands up, and picks up the pendant. "Harn, I've seen this. I'm sure she had it with her at the station." "Harn" responds with a glare. "Hey, it didn't seem like it needed conf-"
"So, where'd you get that?" interrupts the other Officer.
"Hey, that's mine! I don't know why anyone else would have it."
"Chester seems pretty interested in it."
"Well, I don't know what's with your dog. And keep him away from the cat!" Harn pulls the dog away from the table.
Phil pulls out a walkie-talkie. "Get groups to refocus search on 5 miles up Westervelt Pass from Station. Over."
"Listen," says Officer Harn, putting his hands on his hips, "we have a manhunt situation here, and I think it would be best if you come with me to help clear things up. Just going to take a little drive down to the station and ask a few questions. We'll have you back in no time, okay? You wouldn't want there to be a problem in our investigation, would you."
"O... Okay. We'll be back real soon, right? And if I let you search the place and you see there's no one else here you'll just leave me alone?"
"Yep. Don't you worry, and if there's any sign that she might have just happened to pass by, you'd want us to know, right?"
"Of course, officer. Just search or whatever. I just don't want to walk so far in the rain..."
"Now don't you worry. Come on down to the station and just make both our lives a little easier."
Greg sighs. "...Alright. Let me get my coat." He slips on an anorak draped over a chair, and looks worriedly back at you as he steps out the door.
Harn, as he leaves, looks back towards Phil and says. "You heard him, you can search the place. Don't break anything."
