King of the beasts new contenders!
« on: April 22, 2015, 06:13:06 pm »

i am grading for 3 things, when a animal spawns in packs, it gets a pack in arena mode
1. danger in combat
2. chance to attack
3. resistance to damage

Air: no new contestors
Land: I am just narrowing it down to 1
Water: great white shark

Results:
Land: 12 giant dingos murdered the GCS without casualties. 12 giant dingos murdered a unicorn with few casualties
Sea: great white sharks and stronger attacks, survive against crossbows better & have large predator tag, so they will target dwarves from far away and brutally murder them

I have serious doubts that great white sharks are more dangerous than giant sperm whales, the biggest creature in the game.

Its a feature. Impregnating booze is a planned tech tree for dwarves and this is a sneak peek at it.

Giant sperm whales are not aggresive though... are they bigger than fbs/clowns?

Not many large sea creatures lack the "benign" flag.  If that is a criteria for being dangerous, I'm having a hard time finding a large one that does not have it.  Even the Whale Shark is flagged as "benign".

Sea Serpents and Sea Monsters are probably the only real contenders under that criteria.  Would probably have to run some arena matches with them, they are close enough in size that it probably comes down to their other features.  They are each 4x as large as the GWS.

But you never know, with the pack advantage.  Bluefin Tuna have packs of 10-15, and are apex predators in the real world.  Game lists them as benign, though.

As for land, it is really hard to tell with the random creatures like Titans, FB's, and Demons... But excluding these the contenders are probably Dragons (for their fire) and the BC (for it's bronzeness and immunity to nearly everything... except dragonfire).

Would have to check in the Arena, but I wouldn't think that a Giant Dingo could damage a BC.  vs a Dragon, it would probably come down to luck -- if they could close before it incinerated them.  This is how all dragon fights seem to go...

Sea lampreys.
There were sea lampreys in the river in my latest fort.  One attacked a giant otter, knocking out its teeth.  Several teeth went 9z levels up in the air from a single hit.  I second this vote.

Megabeasts don't count as king of beasts. KoB is only for standard creatures.

Giant cave spiders are the undoubted KoB for the caverns. Then come the cave dragon and then jabberers.

The rest, though, is up to debate. Giant keas are not as aggressive as they were in .34.11 so the King of Beasts is unsure. And there are no flying large predators anymore. Well, apart from hungry heads, but the cavern position is already taken.

Do CD's still beat out Jabs when you include pack size?  Would be interested to see.

Some of the benigns are definitly more hazardous as long as something else instigates.

I'm doing sea monster vs GWS, GWS is winning half the time so far, but the sea monster can wrestle, i got one to wrestle bolts and a crossbow away from a victim, then i stopped controlling it, the sea monster fired at the dwarf, the sea monster can climb (when i controlled it) and could probably grab something else too. Great white shark is about 3x faster

God I am so glad there is nothing aboveground which can shoot webs and is common like the GCS.

Sea: Sea Monsters. My one confrontation with one left every military dwarf, each with multiple elephant kills in their lists, dead on the beach.
Sky: Never had a bird fight since I last played 34.11
Land: A pride of giant lions tore through a pair of trained cave dragons like it was nothing.
