Jane and Arthur opened up, sending bullets flying and shell casing spiraling into the air, trailing smoke. The Sectoids ducked further back into cover, and while the bullets bit out chunks of bricks and clods of earth, the aliens were untouched by the barrage.

Andrea takes a shot at one the aliens, the bullets slicing bloody yellow lines across it's ribs. The creature hissed in pain and chittered.

ALIEN ACTIVITY

Jane peered out of cover. Seeing another of the aliens take aim, she ducked back in, but too slow - a plasma surge exploded a gout of flash-boiled blood out of her chest, and she tumbled back to stare lifelessly into the night sky.
 
The final sectoid, with the purple energy playing around its skull, fired a shot as well, but Andrea had flinched at the sudden death of her companion and the energy hissed by harmlessly.

Arthur moved up, shrouded by smoke, but the merciless eyes of the aliens saw through the covering fog. One sprayed a burst of plasma, splashing the super-heated shot across his side and leg. He howled in pain but staggered on, making it into cover, his flesh sizzling in the burn.

As the operatives pul lback, the aliens move forward. Adriana spots one of their bulbous heads and fires a burst. The carbine's bullets sent it crumpling in a heap, a puppet with cut strings.
