I have allowed dwarves to die of old age.

If I decide to engineer war with an ally it is usually humans.  Elves get a free pass for bringing me a mating pair of grizzlies in a very early fort.

I usually trap the circus out of every fort entrance.

I prefer flat embarks.

I abuse marksdwarves.

I try to cheat the mood system by training everyone in weaponsmithing so it is their highest moodable skill.

I usually get by without trading anything. IF I trade, then it's lavish meal for some metal.

Still looking forward to my first trade on a rocky wastelands 4x4 embark with a haunted forest in one of the corners, because I embarked with absolutely nothing. (no points spent)

I'm a dumb newbie, so I have a question regarding this: will anything bad actually happen if you avoid trade?

None that I'm aware of, except a buildup of lots of junk your dwarves may or may not have produced. And a simple garbage chute to the magma sea tends to take care of the buildup of junk. I have a tendency to ignore the traders too after the first year or 2 due to their relative uselessness.

Anyways a new shameful admission.

I have never intentionally murdered a caravan of any race. Have accidently atom smashed a few dozen but thats it.

The best reason to trade (besides exotic animals) is getting raw materials you don't have on your map.  If you embark somewhere without iron, you're going to want to trade for every random iron harp you can melt.

Noble gem and stone mandates are a serious impetus for trade.  There's typically at least a couple of them that want milk opals or purple spinels or something else you've never even heard of that you can't get without trading to the mountainhomes to import.

As far as I know, if you can produce everything your dwarves need to survive autonomously, then there is no reason to trade outside of the tiny amount needed for a king/queen to arrive.

Good to know. This means that I just need to resist the temptation to go commune with the caravans every time they show up. :P

Its important to let the caravan[NOT the liason] leave the map safely or they won't report on your wealth to the Mountainhomes, which means few/no new migrants. Alternatively, you could murder them to avoid an influx of new migrants on already overpopulated forts.

I've never deliberately breached hfs.

I've never made pump stacks, or sophisticated minecart systems.

I've never penetrated an aquifer on a non cold, temperate or freezing biome.

I've never waged war on elves. (Not for the lack of trying.)

I've never made giant mosaics.

I've never used Dfhack or Dorf Therapist.

I regularly make above ground fort sections, and I only ever grow above ground crops.

I made a giant octagon fort.  I still don't know why.

I've never shot a dorf in Shadyarrows, just to see him die.

I hate breaching caverns because of Framerate, but I still want to fight Forgotten beasts.

I turn off werebeasts in worldgen because they literally do nothing but annoy me; they're easily avoidable by turtling or just distracting them by sacrificing a dorf. It irritates me to have to drop everything I'm working on and send everyone inside AGAIN for five minutes because another werebadger or wereturtle or werefluffywamblerwhocares has decided to wander into my map.

I love werebeasts because, other than spoilers, undead, and generated beasts that are made of metal (tiny chance), they are now basically the most dangerous thing out there! Even more troublesome than sieges. The fact that they force me to send everyone inside is exciting, and a change of pace.

That's understandable; I wish that beasts would show up more often - I enjoy my entire map being set aflame because of dragonfire, or you know, my dwarves being coated in flesh rotting ichor. !!FUN!!

Werebeasts are just ... half the time they don't even get in my fort before they transform, and the other half they manage to kill maybe two dorfs or get caught up fighting livestock and it's more an annoyance than anything to me. Maybe it's a difference in playstyle.

Of course, that being said, I also wish we got better and stronger sieges. Let the gobbos bring stronger equipment. Higher numbers. Better trained beasts! They suck right now.

Spoilers are always a source of inspiration for new forts, though.  :P

I always thought that werebeasts should go with the fort mode time warp and stay a beast for a season or so.  Randomly sprinkle the active seasons around and you've got something you can't just wait out with a brief fire drill.

I've just managed to construct a ruined tower without making a tower. It is covered in gorlak blood depsite being aboveground, and I honestly do not know the reason for this. It also partially collapsed twice. It is a walled cylinder. Or should be, though, it is currently more of an irregular spire.

I would post pics, but cannot make stonesense work.
