Do realise that while we have to pay for the flail, we don't have to pay for the steel shortsword. That's why I voted to use that instead of the flail.

All fanfics are heresy, each and every one, especially the shipping ones. Those are by far the worst.

(I'm just going to say you are carrying the sword in a sheath.

So: flail, sword, plate, Glowing Red Potion. I'll write up soon, and am going to be up late tonight. )

(Sorry, didn't count right. You are correct, sword only did win. Bonus XP awarded.)

You don't want to pay rent on a weapon. A little sword will have to do, especially given that you know firsthand how sharp it is. Regardless, you put on the plate mail, reasoning that every last bit of help you can get against an opponent with an advantage helps. After examining and sniffing at the potion, you guess it's a Healing potion, and tuck one away in case.

Into the Arena. Your name is announced as you enter. People cheer.

This time, it's shorter and square, with barely enough room to build up momentum for a charge attack (full-round action.) It's a few inches of sand over wood, with wood lining the formerly stone walls, and the ground is slightly bulged from the center, with a few dips. Your opponent enters from the opposite door, wielding nothing but a Meteoric Iron Duelist Blade (14 Piercing/4 Slashing) and a Shiny Halfspear (10 Piercing/4 Bludgeoning.) The two of you measure each other up, and as the Judge's hand drops, you're almost instantly dealing with the Halfspear in your face. You bat it away and both of you retreat, the spear tracking your body.

Well, it seems like our enemy is very attack-minded. I don't think we will win if we try to face him head-on.

Paralysis - Spear Hand
Paralysis - Legs

Yeah... I kinda don't like us becoming a "One Trick Pony", but judging from the situation, playing to our strength might be the better thing to do.

Either way, the arena is small, so the spear's reach could easily give the elf bonus-attacks. Targeting his hold on it, would certainly limit his options. If we also get one of his legs, he can't rush at us with his dagger as easily.

Edit:
Actually, there would be another way of "breaking" this foe. One to which we would need to commit ourselves, as it would need at least three full turns and possibly all of our mana. Still, to remind us;
"We have come to possess knowledge that one of your next battles will put you against an enemy of our Faith. It is asked that you facilitate his path of self-destruction. Painfully. There is much honor in victory."

Leech
Leech

Leech 1 - 5 MP; steals 1-10 MP from target. Can induce fatal Soulbreak upon victims if they go below 0 MP.

Yeah... not sure if we want to do that one. Just putting it up as an option is all.

Edit 2: Crunching it over, this seems more akin to suicide than a viable tactic, at least for this fight or with only 1 Lvl as Monk.

I'd say assuming we paralyze the elf without any complications, we should just go into unstopable rage mode and tear it apart while it is vulnerable.

We don't know what effect of getting more mana than maximum will be...

My vote is:

Defend
Paralysis leg

Last time second attack failed and I suspect that it may not work when used two times, also I prefer to reduce the chance of one of three enemy attacks landing

Oh, and we are screwed

War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.

(There's no reason why the spell couldn't work twice. You just happened to roll 7+1 to his 10 roll.

Can't have more than maximum MP. It spills over and disperses into the environment as a waste.

I fell asleep last night in the middle of the post. Sorry!)

Well, thing is - crunching the numbers over, if spell failure / resistance was not a thing, we might be able to make it. With those in play, it seems quite suicidal. Even though I am the one who brought it up, I think we should keep that tactic in the back of our heads, but out of this particular fight.

(...So, uhm, you guys managed to get a natural 20 on the first attack. I... didn't see that coming. I haven't even rolled his defense, or the damage, but I figured you'd be amused by that. Back to writing, anyway.)
