Oh, yeah, we should do that. We can't always be designing an aircraft, and having the other ROFs designing things using our jet engine should be a good idea. +1

I think a swift upgrade of all of our Mortars would be a good idea. The new ones should be lightweight (again using composites), as close to non-jamming as possible, and be as accurate as possible.

That's my only real design proposition at the moment. I would love to see when we get in this war what will we do.

Powergamer, more of a fighter aircraft (atleast prop-driven) is empty space than most realize.
Yeah, but with 50s and 20s, you're likely to hit something important if you get a long burst in.

guys, our 20mm guns are outdated crap....

((Just to clarify, you have two 20mm weapons.

A rapid fire Royal Ordnance 20mm flak gun,

and the 20mm AT Autocannon.

The AT Autocannon is the crap one.

Key words there being long burst. Long bursts arent the best, for a number of reasons.

The reason aircraft weapons prioritize rates of fire is so they can actually hit opposing aircraft, whih larger calibers are harder to achieve with(unless you go with things like chain drives or rotary mechanisms). Plus, larger caliber alone doesn't dictate performance, though it does help a little.

Alright, here's a challenge. Find an military aircraft, certify yourself as a pilot, get flown into a warzone, and try to gun down opposing planes. It's not as easy as it sounds, and definitely involves more than just simply "Aiming". You have to keep in mind that in addition to opposite planes moving at different speeds and angles of approach, you have to deal with atmosphere scattering the shots. Again, high rates of fire were desired in agraft guns for a pretty goddamn good reason, and not because pilots couldn't aim.

A fair number of aircraft, and particularly aircraft formations, where designed to remove the ability to aim. Case in point, early WW2 British fighter formations.

Rounds on target, by whatever means, are all well and good, but those rounds still need to do something when they hit the target. Hence why most aircraft designs eventually replaced their rifle-caliber rounds with cannon.

And the Goshawk HAS those, if you didn't forget. I specified twin 20mms in ADDITION to the wing mounted machine guns. Always nice to have options for when you run out of cannon ammo, or for when that juicy convoy appears.

Nope, the goshawk is a multirole fighter, not simply an escort fighter. Why limit it to one thing?

Because thats what it was suggested as. An escort for out bombers and to kill what is sent after them.
