ARCHESTONE - 4/4 - The Despoiled Temple

ARCHESTONE

The Eternal Kingdom is ending.

The King has become a corrupted, corpulent mass. Daemons and monsters roam the land. The innocent are consumed without mercy...

Deep beneath the earth, the Archestone comes alive. Flickering faefire runs along ancient channels carved in the monument. It feels the pain, the suffering, the death of what was to last forever. But why?

It doesn't know enough. The Archestone breathes in the knowledge of the Eternal Kingdom, the legends, the stories told in epic ballads and whispered in dark taverns to frighten children. From this it crystallises the archetypes. These ideals... they will be that which can save this dying land. Gather knowledge. Fight the decay.

Even now, souls still enter the Eternal Kingdom. The Archstone reaches out and seizes four, implanting deep in their reforming minds a command.

Save the Kingdom. Whatever the price may be.

==========

It's cold. So cold, cold.
It hurts.

You feel a pulse of light and blessed warmth, butit changes, becomes to hot. This isn't right, This isn't what should happen.

Suddenly you are cold again, but not the biting cold - the chill of a damp cave, a vast monolith before you and three shivering figures besides you, features swimming and indistinct as they form. You look down, and see in the pulsing light of the monolith your own skin swims with potential.

The Archestone - and somehow you know the name of it - thunders in your ears.

IT IS TIME.

==========

I've decided to run an RPG after quite a while. Four players.
Not all foes can be overcome with sheer might, and you'll have to use your tactics, wits, and words to triumph and save the Kingdom.

D20 system. Pretty simple. Posts of just bolded commands, however, can only be minimally successful.

Spoiler: Sheet (click to show/hide)

Not first come first serve. Take your time, make an interesting character.

Players have been chosen!

Places:
- Dwarmin: Sučana Maja, Warrior of White
- sjm9876: Karia the Stained, Warrior of Black

I have an idea for a mage. Will write later when not busy.

What are the guidelines for the magic system here?

Name: Hal Paledew
Karma: Neutral
Archetype: Rogue
Description: Dashing blue eyes, Glorious brown hair a truly marvellous bit of stubble. Hal has spent years basing his look on the great rogues of the stories from his brown coat and white vest, to his hat and fake glasses.

Personality: He admires cunning rogues more than anything else, if he succeeds in being one is still to be seen. He acts like how he'd imagine a hero would act in most circumstances, however he has a secret love of books.

Name: Peirasmós
Karma: Black
Archetype: Magician

Description:  Peirasmós is a moderately attractive man of average height with blonde hair that reaches down past his eyes which he moves to obscure only his left eye. Even from birth in his past life Peirasmós had two different colored eyes, his right one was a faint golden color while his left was a very light shade of purple. He has a slight build, and weaker physique that lends itself more to affairs of the mind than any physical careers.

Personality: Peirasmós can be described as singlemindedly determined without any moral restraints. Peirasmós is careful, and wary of everyone and everything even if he has learned to trust or find some use in them. He believes that his goals supersede all others, and is willing to go to any extent to assure they're completed for surely who else could bring such great findings, wealth, or power other than him?

Name: Sučana Maja
Karma: White
Archetype: Warrior
Description: Sucana has striking, jet-black eyes. Her luxurious, wavy, light brown hair is very short and is worn in a complex, elegant style. She is short and well muscled, and has a curvy build. Her skin is ruddy and marked with a number of sinuous animal tattoos that curve around her-eels, fish, serpents and centipedes...

Personality: Sucana is best described as a sly goal oriented achiever...throughout the many trials of her life, she has always sought an indirect path to to her goals. She prefers the cunning and well thought out action, over the instinctual one. A stubborn and ambitious woman, she has a great deal of patience to attain the things she wants, and she often wants a great many things-power, wealth and influence to better herself in a world that can be cruel. She is not particularly moral, but is honest-at least to herself-and prefers not to commit violence if it can be reasonably avoided, though she is always prepared for it. She can be deceptive in this way, and her idea of diplomacy is saying 'good dog', while buying time to find a rock. She is a realist and a rationalist, and has very little capacity for imagination or wonder.

Essel: Essel
Karma: Neutral
Archetype: Magi

Description: A tall, fierce-looking young man with a sharp gaze that projects from his dull brown eyes. Keeps his straight black hair in a ponytail that reaches the back of his shoulders. Has well tanned skin and wears light, dull clothing when he can.

Personality: Takes the practical approach towards everything. Still owns a sword despite being a magician and tries to spend just as much time practicing with his blade as he does with incantation, though it doesn't seem to benefit him much. He's keen on selling himself out to whoever will pay him the most, money is his first love and he takes advantage of his talents to earn as much of it as he can. He's attracted to talent and avoids taking sides. He does whatever it takes to get the job done.

(I'm assuming Black is combat/evil what have you, White is healing vanila goddy goody mint magic and neutral is just good old fashioned math magic?)
Name: David Grayheart
Karma: Neutral
Archetype: Magi

Description: Tall man, caucasian complexion, green eyes, brown curly hair, wirey. Impish expressions and body language.

Personality: Generally personable yet snarky sorcerist. He generally detests the whole science vs magic thing, rather believing that magic is just biological and mechanical manipulation of a generally misunderstood form of energy.

A souls-ish setting if I've ever seen one.

Name: Alienne
Karma: White
Archetype: Rogue.

Description: Smallish and thin, occasionally mistaken for a teen in spite of being in her mid-twenties.  Very fit physically and a gaze that makes her targets question whether or not she could actually bring herself to kill them.  The answer to that is yes.

Personality: Amicable for an assassin, just as likely to feed you cookies as poison you with them if you are her target though.  Only accepts contracts on people who are known to cause others suffering.

I'll put up a sheet.

Name: Cen Dizei
Karma: Black
Archetype: Rogue

Description: A tall wiry man with thin jagged black hair. His scarred brown eyes radiate hatred, and loss. His assassin's cloak, spiraling around his pale skin, hides many daggers, and also hides his body shape.

Personality: On the outside, anyone speaking with him would hear calm, logical obsidian. Anyone who penetrates deep enough would find a jagged shard of hatred against their words and life. The former assassin is calm, but jagged. No one who angers him will live long, unless they happen to be elderly. That is the one place where he may show mercy, due to some part of his mysterious past.

Dangit. Got ninjad by someone with the assassin idea.

Name: Rusty of Mansford
Karma: Black
Archetype: Warrior

Description: a gray-and-white chunky dog of Caucasian Shepherd lineage, his brown canine eyes seeming like blue human eyes, his powerful paws seeming like human hands if one fails to look well enough, his back undulating if one closes one's eyes and looks at it and his tail hosting a dozen guests of miniscule stature and great ambition if one were to carefully examine it with their peripheral vision. He speaks with the voice of a man without any movement of his mouth - perhaps through the slightly quivering nose? That can't be right, can it?

Personality: brimming with enthusiasm and love of life, boundlessly curious, interested in distant objects of all kinds, unfamiliar with shame or regret, taught from experience, faintly capable of intellectual discourse, tirelessly enamored with the same, eight miles high on life, intrigued by death, overflowing with questions not just to people, but to things, buildings, the sky, the distant stars, quick to anger and quicker to forgive. Perpetually intoxicated by his nascent sapience, in so many words. It was never meant to be this way. It should not have been possible.

Name: Slope
Karma: White
Archetype: Rogue

Description: A build of a young boy in between his tens and twenties, lithe and flexible. His hair is a tussle of red and orange, usually bound into a short ponytail. His eyes are pale-green with a gaze as soft as grass, though most times they brim with mischief.

Personality: From mythical tales does Slope take on his new persona of a righteous robber. Stealing from the wealthy and giving to the impoverished is his goal, and maybe keeping a few coins here and a shiny ring there wouldn't hurt anyone. Slope the Righteous, self-named, dreams of becoming a renowned thief and a beacon of hope for all the ne'erdowells in the world. And filthy rich, too, but that doesn't sound to righteous.

Yay, no one beat me to making a Robin Hood!

Name: Karia the Stained
Karma: Black
Archetype: Warrior

Description:
Karia has long red hair, falling straight to the small of her back. Her eyes blaze an intense green, out of a sharp face. She is a touch shorter than average, and seems far leaner than most - her body appears cut from muscle and bone, and her ligaments stand clearly visible when she stretches. Her skin is the pale colour that marked noble ancestry in her locale, and is unmarked but for a number of red scars that criss-cross her back. She has no qualms about leaving these visible.

Personality:
To call Karia evil would be a significant misunderstanding. She was born in a small village, her parents abandoning her to the community for survival. She grew up alone, and sickened by the lengths to which her people had to go - she placed no blame on her parents, but rather on the world itself.
And so she sought to change the world. Karia joined an order of paladins when they passed through the town, leaving everything she knew behind. She saw murderers imprisoned, thieves forced to compensate, and stray goods returned to those who lost them. And for every ill they fixed, another sprang lose. Prisons could not hold; debts went unpaid; the poor stayed poor.
So Karia strayed from the path of her order. First a coin, taken from the treasure trove of a rich man to feed a poor man's family. One lash. Then a thief, publicly ridiculed and shamed. Five lashes. Then, the head of a murderer. Twenty lashes. Still, she continued. Three heads and one hundred lashes later she was expelled. Stripped of her arms and armour she was sent to wander the lands an outcast, stripped of her family name and title. And so she did. She continued on her path, and for every murderer she killed, none escaped from prison.
Two months later, she left a member of a gang alive - barely. Insane and in agony, he retreated, and the gang soon disbanded. Five months later, she took a corrupt nobleman's twin daughters hostage. When he called her bluff, she sent him one of their heads, and the city became pure again.
A rich old men, bleeding out on a death bed of gold, had told Karia once that his ends had justified the means. Even with the knife of his hired assassin behind her, she had agreed. His end had justified her means.
((Well, technically a backstory on reflection, but get's it across :P ))

Name: Kraust Jack
Karma: Blacker
Archetype: Magi.

Description:A person of deep color, Bald headed. Wearing Darker robes than his own skin, His skin's black color is not a natural one, this much is sure, the leather of his face is pulled taut, a visage of death and frostbite itself. His sunken eyes hold no mercy, one would think, and truly he does not hold mercy to those whom his gaze falls upon. those who are pure however, often find they cannot keep his gaze upon them.

Personality: An eternally suffering mage, Hating all that life has to offer, from the disappointing fleeting pleasures of the short lived, and how it is so swiftly taken away, to the eternal pain suffered by the immortals, and it's unceasing nature, His twisted nature drives every word and motion. His only desire is to be free of pain, and to take pain away from others. His preferred enemy is those who cause pain to those who do not.
