Ok, so I was in the process of choosing which characters to take into the opening of the game, and I came across a bit of a problem.
The rather large majority of characters don't really fit into the lore of the game, and a lot of them feel
extremely individualized as "special snowflakes" or "Mary Sue" type characters.
The reason this is an issue is that it makes it very difficult, as a GM, to tell a story when one or more (or in this case, most) of the characters are stealing spotlights.
I'll admit that the majority of this is my fault, for not telling people sooner (I have an issue with telling people "no" ._. ) and so I apologize for having to ask people to do this, but otherwise, I'm going to end up becoming exhausted with trying to run this, and probably never finish it, and nobody wants that.
Because I hate singling people out, but I need to go over individual issues, I'll say things to everybody.
(But before I start, I'd like to ask people to NOT get rid of your character sheets, because I'm going to run another game that's far less serious where I'd gladly accept all of these, some time in the future.)
Ismos Astoro (Praefectus Screptum)
While the idea of a beetle-rider is pretty badass, I wasn't exactly planning on having giant beetles anywhere in the lore, and so it'd be very out of place.
Nao Takeda (Caellath)
This character is actually pretty good.
Astera (Swordstar)
The only issue with this one is the complete lack of a bio. I'd prefer if everyone had at least a short paragraph of a bio, so I at least have an
idea of what to think about them.
Tracey (kj1225)
Having a character that looks like they're 12 or so, and saying they're twice that doesn't really make sense. Also the background of being a slave would be
extremely emotionally scarring. If you
really think you can roleplay an experience like that, you may want to make it less extreme.
Kurai (scapheap)
Nothing in
particular stands out as problematic with this character, but the "dark and brooding" archetype for characters is, while fun to play as, not very fun to interact with. I'll let you pass with it, because I trust you to not be overly stereotypical about it (and the PM you sent me lets me know that you won't) so you're ok.
Diana (Twinwolf)
As much as I (and others) dislike the overly clichéd amnesiac character, the PM I got on it is enough to convince me to let it go this one time.
Warek Dragenlic (Bluexdog)
Along with the beetle rider, playing a vampire is problematic because there isn't supposed to be any vampires in the lore. I like the idea, and it's cool, and (like I mentioned in the note above) I'd be ok with it in another game, but for this one, could you play something human?
Satou Saburou (USEC_OFFICER)
This one is pretty good.
Veda Gurdiel (Cinder)
Aside from all the androgynous characters, I see nothing wrong with this one.
Kaliche (shoruke)
This is good.
Dwei (F.O.E.)
Complete lack of a bio is the only issue. Although I think he said that he's wanting to join a later chapter (unless I'm confusing them with someone else) so he can wait until he sees how things play out.
Iso Haitn (Pencil_Art)
This one is good.
Kyo Hayate (Sentient Bowtie)
Again, the androgynous issue. Other than that, no complains.
Kuroi Jukai (GiglameshDespair)
A mass of spirits possessing a corpse is an awesome thought, but doesn't really play out well with the lore. (Although he said he was considering dropping out, so...)
Ok, I'm done.
Please re-read the part where I said to keep your character ideas for later, and how I'm sorry for not saying any of this sooner.
