"Goddamn planet, always trying to kill us... Don't use that mindfuck gun, seriously. It's a giant fucking planet and that's a shitty idea."

Concentrate on one of the organic jet-engine hummingbird things at a time. I'd rather be slow and accurate than fast and wasteful. Stop if I start feeling tired. I'd rather be alive than dead.

*Duncan is suddenly struck with inspiration*

"Hey, everyone! See if you can fire weapons through the hole in the ship from where we I got hit! I definitely had this idea myself and nobody else!"

Are there any sets of holes near the back door, where one or more people could shoulder their weapon(s) and see/shoot out the back?

None that would really work for that right now. The holes that are there are a bit too small for that.

Please don't shoot the mindfuck gun, there's no way it ends well.

"Eddie, do not fire that gun of yours, you hear me? No ifs or buts, just sit tight and don't do squat with that thing, it won't help and will only make things worse."

Ask Steve to shock him unconscious if he won't back down and still tries to use it.

You have no clue. Not even a single one. Mind is a blank.

Point mindfuck gun at wall, hold down trigger, wave wildly, and hope to hit the blobs

There are definitely advantages to having a gun which goes straight through anything (even if the range is piss poor)

Eddie gets zapped.

Continue gaining altitude.
You attempt to rise more quickly then before and the engines groan suddenly, the strain on them too great. You level back out in a near panic and wait for several long seconds, anticipating the sound of an engine tearing itself free and taking half the shuttle with it. But it never happens.

Think about computers.  Does p = np?
Maybe.

Keep shooting the damn things! With laser at max diffusion, save manip for if they get dangerously close.

"Kyle, you keep tabs on those eeg readings for me, I need to constantly know how they are."
Just keep shooting those things.

Despite the best combined efforts of everyone here, one of the balls gets through. It detonates into a fine spray of bone shrapnel that, while missing the passenger compartment, badly damages several engines on the left side of the shuttle. To the south, a line of new and momentary suns erupts, a boiling horizon  of merging and distorting mushroom clouds blooms up as the shuttle lists hard and starts to sink back towards the planet.

"Iveso, try to latch onto the shuttle and use your rockets to keep the shuttle going. I'll see if I can help out as well with my manip. We just need to get into a stable orbit, then another shuttle can come pick us up."

Could I use the manip to help get us into a stable orbit? Maybe by pushing the shuttle/increasing its speed with vector part, or using the manip to make it lighter or something? If yes, do it! Also, ask Steve if there is anything he could do to help us. Would it help if we dump the assaultsuit after it has used up its fuel, to shed weight?

...Oh, and ask him if this is even salvageable at this point, or if we'll have to land and take a new shuttle.

Iveso action, in case he doesn't show up: fly up to the shuttle's left side, grab hold of it and use the rocket boosters to keep her going up. Work together with the pilot to keep the flight steady.

If the damaged engines are somehow visible from the passenger compartment, or if the engines' statuses are available on a terminal or port somewhere, take a look at them and determine if it would be possible to jury-rig a fix.

If reasonably confident that it can be done, do it.  Edit: if absolutely needed, use the hunk of metal to create any necessary replacement parts.
