What do you think of the possibility of this becoming a succession fort?

Yes! I'd love to take over this fort and see what I could do!
Yes! I'd love to see what someone else could do!
Maybe, depends on where it goes.
No! I'd hate to see this fort end up in the wrong hands!
No! I'd hate to see this fort end up in mine, or anyone's hands!

A river is slightly less useful than an aquifer, but with a cistern and an airlock system, you could probably build a pretty good flooding trap. Or you could make a pressurized minefield. Same goes for magma/lava. You'd need a lot of pumps, though. The water laser idea (basically, a trench leading to a long drop filled by a pressurized cistern) I came up with a while back is also good if you want to be able to loot your enemies without having to wait too long for the water to drain away.

...why do your hydras have two more heads than mine?

26th Sandstone, 552
Announcements
The gates have been locked down indefinitely until further notice.

# We're currently under siege from a goblin invasion squad. Supposedly after being here for so long, they've found us. We've decided to be better safe than sorry, and shut the front doors. We caught a few in cages, which we'll retrieve when the backup dwarven caravan arrives and destroys the sieging squad.
And now, construction production..
#Aside from lack of outside activity, inside the fort is bustling with progress. Dwarven doctors and scientists have collaborated to upgrade our water system, and now we'll be capable of providing clean drinking water to the fort with our new water filtration system. It's untested for now, but once we finish cleaning up the mud in the pipes we'll be ready to deploy it. It's got the ability to re-filter all of our water instantly, so we consider it a major addition to the fort.

#We've been struggling to provide a stable booze and farm system, but we've expanded our fields and hopefully this will curb our production stoppages.
Military report..
#The military is training hard still, and the queen is proud to say they can at least defend us from a few scary monsters. Our giant cave spider, regrettably, was murdered by the siege. RIP, Fermurkar (It was indeed named..)

#The military has been developing a virtual reality chamber to assist with training. It consists of harmless spears flying out of the floor in order to train the military. While testing continues, plans to construct another chamber are under consideration for the orphanage.
Finally..
#Aside from all that, nothing major has happened. We're pushing our fourth year here, and clothes seem to be getting damaged, so replacements are on the way.

#When the back-up caravan arrives, hopefully they'll be capable of taking out the siege.
