[ISG] You are in control of a tribe!

After being banished from their old tribe, these people have traveled long and far. Now, feeling that they are far enough from their old tribe, they have decided to settle down.

But who are these people?

This is my first try at a civilization SG, so please tell me if there's something I can do better!
I'll try to update at least once every two days.

Current tribe:
Name: Tide

Race: Cicadas that form social groups (and are people, Cicada people?), with a twist. The nymphal cicada are active ambush predators(also proficient diggers), a favoured tactic being to dig large pits and chasing prey animals into them, supplemented by a diet of tree sap. The youngest cicadas, and thus smallest and slowest have to be particularly cunning and reliant on traps, instead of using their physical abilities to simply hunt down prey.

This led to a strange evolutionary quirk, where the first cicada instars have the highest intelligence, with the intelligence slowly detoriating with each molting, until the most drastic metamorphosis into the imago, gaining wings, switching from being omnivorous to only drinking tree sap, and having only the intelligence of particularly bright animals. The flights of the cicada, and their chorus songs are both extremely beautiful to the younger instars, and a source of horror at their own inevitable regression, with only the wonder of flight and laying the eggs of the next generation as small comforts of adulthood.

Religion: They believe that after death, cicada are reincarnated anew. They liken life and death to dreaming and waking. Just as a night's sleep may be filled with dreams of powerful drives, passion and wonder, only to slowly fade like mist before the sun once awake, so death is a time of sleep and dreaming, from which cicada awake once they hatch, slowly losing the power of the dream, and their intelligence with it, forgetting it's wonder, until they sleep again. Each nights sleep is seen as a microcosm of this larger cycle of life and death, a temporary return to the dream, yet even more ephemeral than the sleep of death.

A somewhat more complex and subtle expansion of this concept, is the cyclic nesting of dreams within a dream, with your previous life in fact being part of the deathdream for this dreamlife, that is part of the deathdream of the dreamlife after it. As such, along with the dreams themselves, you are forgetting your memories of your past life.

(Their beliefs are what caused the banishment of their tribe, since their parent tribe believed each moulting was part of a slow ascension to a higher plane of existence, with the lowered intelligence being caused due to getting less and less in tune with the base lowly current plane, until finally the adults fly up past the clouds, past the sky and sun and become spirits.)

Method of Ruling: A child shall lead them.

Sometimes a particularly large and special type of cicada egg is lain, a Paragon. These Paragons can survive being broken out of their eggs before they hatch naturally, thus entering the waking world while still being in the deathream. This state, known as the "Waking Dream" allows the paragon to access the skill, experience and knowledge of their past lives, as well as the mysterious powers of the dream. Whenever such Paragons are forced to be born, they become the leaders of the tribe. The forceful creation of the first Paragon was part of the chain of events that led to the schism with the original tribe and as such much is still unknown, including how moulting will effect the Waking Dream state, though it seems depressingly likely that it will break the waking dream.

Without a paragon, generally council of children will be chosen from the first instar of the tribe, generally by selecting those that managed to build the best traps in a competition.

Other: Sometimes non-paragons can temporarily enter waking dream states, especially during periods of high stress, particularly during battles. Generally they just gain the skills of their previous lives, rather than any mystical powers. This lesser waking dream state is generally called a "martial trance".

Other: Capable of having priests give blessings of the Earth Mother (or the Serpent if we go that route) as well as mages who use runes to make traps and enchant items.

Where Gaia is life the Wyrm is death. Those who worship the Wyrm practice death magic that decays anything they perceive as unfit to exist. However, practitioners give up their life force when doing so and because of that there are few followers of Wyrm.

That the death of plants is a part of nature, and that while one should be cautious not to exhaust supply, trees and all other beings exsist to serve a roll in nature.nthis is the truth they discovered and were exiled for.

Religion- a patheon of gods.
(Nature God) a more resonable version of the (nature God) of normals elves, teaching respect of nature and a careful use rather than all out protection and worship of nature.

He is the God of nature, rivers, and beast.

(Earth God) the mother of the earth. She is the god of stone, gems, metal, and  perseverance.
New to the patheon she Is said to be the Devine smith, and the protecter of the gods, she encourages the art of working metal.

(Flame God) the son of (nature god) and (earth god) he is the god of fire, volcanos, emotion and will.
 flame can consume but can also create. He gave emotion to the world and graced it with fire, so that life may be renewed and Made pure.

(Arcane god)  the god of magic, air, whims and truth. This is the seeker of knowlage.  It was he that gave logical thought to life, and stired the air.

(Sea god) the god of water, strength, fertility and survival His strength is of that of a thousand waves, He nurtured the earth with water.


A few in the practice magic, mostly focusing on manipulateng Fire, water, earth, and air. But a skilled caster can manuipllate more complex things.

INSPIRATION!

Name: The Detached Confederacy
Drow/Wood Elves.

Religion: Sou and Shu

Sou is the God of Death. He is the father who keeps his wife Shu's expenses of life to a minimum. He is not only associated with death but also Law to protect the world from itself. Adhored to by most of the Drow.

Shu is the Goddess of the Sun. The mother who keeps her husband from destroying the world with law so strict it kills the freedom of life. She is not only associated with life but also love and unity. Even the adherents of Sou give respects to her principles of love. It is because of this principle that the Detached confederacy exists and trives. Adhorderd to by most of the wood elves but respected by the Drow.

Under these two Gods are multiple dieties who serve both. Said Dieties are "promoted" in times of need and for times of advancement. These Dieties are usually ex-priests and magicians who proclaim a "vision" for the tribe and are remembered in song.

Most practice simple magics such has enchanting and cleaning wounds or clothes. A smaller group of the tribe form the "Enclave" which is the leadership unit of the tribe. Enclave members practice whatever magic they deem fit to help the tribe which can be anything from Arcane magic to Death magics or even growth magic for food.

Ritual:

Way of War: A calling of the tribe to unite to fight an enemy such as other tribes or anyone they deem a threat to the tribes entire existence. It involves calling the Gods Sou and Shu as well as a personal calling to the deities they may have to lead the "way".

Ritual of peace: A yearly ritual of companionship to celebrate the existence of the Tribes unity as well as its achievements both in that year and all time.

Final words: When a tribe member dies the tribes family must gather a member of the Enclaves Shu faction to give patronage to Shu in order for the soul to pass into his arms. The soul is to stay in the body until the day it returns to its "final destination". Only the truly hated are not given passage and bodies must be burned which releases the soul but apparently risks it falling into the hands of Sou who will keep the soul and infuse it into nature. Said spirit will haunt any who attempt to harm the environment without cause or for simple material pleasure.

Race: A race of brightly colored Frogmen with poisonous blood.
Religion: The belief in Xoton, God of Blood and Zuma, God of Water
Method of Ruling: Two kings, the Red King in charge of war and defending the tribe, the Blue King in charge of leading the tribe in spiritual matters such as the needed yearly blood sacrifices to Xoton and Zuma.
Other: Sometimes the gods will grant special powers to the tribe before it goes to war, such as removing the need for warriors to rest or even granting the most faithful warriors immunity to pain.

Race: A race of dark elves completely intolerant of all other species, religions and magics. They are typically very tall almost 7ft but quite skinny and white hair. They are normally over confident and boisterous and think of them selves as the master race. They wage war with all other races and if they win they subjugate them as slaves, if they lose they run. The whole race is normally United against other races in wars so they normally don't have infighting. They do not care about gender.

Religion: They have a number of gods covering many different subjects from fertility to death. The most popular gods are the God of Undeath, God of Life, God of War, God of Shadow and God of Smithing, this is because they see warriors and any profession helpful to war as useful. God of Undeath because they use undead as meat shields basically. God of Life because they need more soldier, food and healing. God of War is self explanatory. God of Shadow because they do not care how they win the war as long as they do, so assassin is seen as a noble profession. God of Smithing because soldiers need weapons and armour.
 
Method of ruling: Their method of ruling is every 5 years they have a tournament of fighting, magic and intilligence who ever does the best becomes the ruler and is allowed as many mates as they want. Then comes second who is allowed 10 mates, then third who is allowed 9, then fourth with 8 and so on until it gets to zero. This way only the best get to breed. But the ruler is allowed to give others a mate if he/she wants.

Other: They have a natural affinity with anything that has to do with war which includes necromancy and healing magic, Fighting in all kinds of form and assassination as well as to a lesser extent smithing.

Race: The kotar. They have no set form. They appear to be a blob of greeenish-Yellowish color. They stay this way until they see a living being, which they take the form of.

Religion: They worship the four chaos gods known as Khorne, the blood God, Nurgle, the great lord of decay, Tzeentch, changer of ways, and Slaanesh, Prince of excess. They either worship one of the gods or all of them. They believe in serving their gods and bringing chaos to the land.

Method of ruling: A High priest is selected from the priests voting every time the previous high priest dies. They are expected to do any religious sacrifices as well as participate in hunts and wars and finally control laws, economy, and trade

Other: They keep the form of the first living organism they see, as well as the skills the person had. This could be used to breed certain castes of people to be better at one thing. Each individual has different colors surrounding them, which only kotar can see.
