Acceleration, and How to Apply it in Destructive Ways
« on: April 10, 2015, 07:54:10 am »

Ok, I need help figuring out how to turn acceleration into a force that can kill people. Bonus if it can be used as a WMD and double-bonus if it can be done using every-day materials.

Starter 1: increasing the inwards acceleration of a heart contraction would have it contract tighter than normal, leading to a heart attack.
Starter 2: increasing the acceleration the molecules of someone's shirt so they vibrate faster, generate more heat, and eventually light on fire.
Starter 3: let them charge you and as they step off the ground, increase their forward acceleration while you dodge so they fly off and hit the wall behind you.

Anyone got any other ideas?

G-forces kill pretty easily, and can be generalised to a whole host of situations.

G-forces....as in gravity?

Acceleration forces. Usually referred to as g-forces as shorthand, in my experience.

Also, accelerating any individual part of a person without accelerating the rest would cause significant trauma. Accelerating the atmosphere of a planet would result in some weird weather patterns. Accelerating the motion of magma and the core would do weird things to the magnetic field. Accelerating the planet itself might also be interesting.

Out of curiosity, why do you need these?

Or you could accelerate solid matter towards someone. Like a rock or a spear or a piece of metal.

That's kinda the standard way of killing people.

And when the rock is a celestial object or the piece of metal is a low orbit tungsten lightpole, you have your WMD.

Get it going fast enough, and it doesn't even need to be a particularly large celestial object.  I always liked Project Rho's example of kitty litter as a KKW, myself.

Is this for a math project or something?

2 and 3 sound like something you could do in DF, or DF glitches even.

Accelerating a large metal object into *insert other object here* can do quiet a bit of damage.  Perhaps even punch a hole into an obstacle and go through to impact another behind it, depending on the durability of the obstacle and how stationary it is.
I reckon it has a pretty high chance of a terminal outcome for organic creatures if it is accelerated above 30mph.
EDIT: An alternative outcome, if the accelerated object is not as durable as the stationary object, it may instead contract into it, rather then significantly compromising the structural integrity of the stationary object.

Accelerate their brain at something like 2000ms-2 and don't accelerate the rest of them.
They will very probably not survive.

All questions, meet answering: Accelerate [object] to sufficient velocity.

G-forces....as in gravity?
Gravity is an acceleration as any other. A g force is simply expressing arceleration in terms of local gravity. All forces cause an acceleration.

After all : a=F*m.

So unless you want to violate conservation of momentum, and energy, and all that stuff, then it's quite simple. Applying an arceleration means applying a force, and you can do whatever you want with forces. Crush people, for example.
