April 11th, of 2019.

I have been elected as mayor of Lolorolon. Loloron. Lolorolon. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, does it? No matter! Whether I can pronounce its name or not, I have been charged with the responsibility of all 10,098 citizens. May Armok bless their souls.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The bridge on the highway into town is tremendous! Surely, this is a city of great wealth.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The city is in a decent state actually; although much of Elitist Island hasn't been zoned and the forge district is in need of better fire coverage.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

My first act is to zone some more residential space on the southern Elitist Island waterfront. The motto of the district is, "Where the poop meets the rest of the water." We want citizens to be perfectly clear what they're getting.

We still need more residential space, so I do the logical thing and spend the entire budget on an elaborate spiraling bridge into a new district.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Elitist Island is growing quickly, but for some reason people haven't snatched up the property right on Poop Beach.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Here's Poop Beach, just a month later. I've built an elementary school, and I figured I would allow pets here, since it's covered in poo regardless.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The entire forestry district is suffering! It seems that the populace lacks enough cheesemakers and beekeepers unworthy enough to be sent outside to chop wood. I'm de-zoning some of it in lieu of residential.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

An added fire station allows the Forge District to build improved buildings. Now we have the facilities to attract expert blacksmiths!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A hearse! Death looms ever in the shadow of the volcano. This one is driving through the completely empty disctrict I built uphill earlier- for some reason, nobody wants to live away from the jobs and schools.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The traffic system entering Elitist Island is what one might call... regrettable.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It has been three months. Now I shall purchase the parcel of land to the northeast. I can tamper with the highway bridge there, and rumor has it the mountains are laden with gold...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

To improve the traffic jam going into elitist island, I replace the elven offramps with suitable dwarven ones, add another bridge, and fix a highway interchange where citizens could only enter the highway in one direction and exit by the other.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Guys? Guys, what is this? What am I looking at? I mean, I know mayors are elected based entirely off of how exciting they are at parties, but this?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Train status: Elevated.
Traffic jam status: Eliminated.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Woohoo! We're big enough to start burning bodies! I take the added budget to build police, clinics, and a bus terminal.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Poop beach thrives, despite the name.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Power is becoming an issue. We're beginning to have brownouts, I'll have to simply burn more coal.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Huzzah! Not that I can afford one of those.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Alternatively, I build myself a few of these.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Near the highway, the gold rush has begun. It is January now, nine months into my mayorship.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It is February, and soon my term will be over. I've begun a new district. The onramps got a little wonky, and a result of one too many mugs of booze over the drawing board.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There is a bit of a garbage truck problem. I leave this as a gift to the next mayor!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Overall the city is doing quite well: It's grown, traffic's improved, and the budget is well in the black.

Bleh I wish I had read this earlier.  Welp, let me download this bad boy and see what chaos I can cause.

I am busy tomorrow night, so I should probably get this done tonight.  Late night for me then!

Edit:  Alright, done!  Screenshots and playthrough incoming!

Sadly, I did this sober.  Anyway, here is my playthrough:

So I started off with the garbage problem.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

By setting the road to be a one-way street, I doubled the number of garbage trucks that could use that entrance.  It only worked because some of them turned right, and some turned straight though.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

MORE POWER

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So I decided that the purple water was annoying me, so I added cleaning plant thingies.  NO MORE POO WATER!  DWARF FORTRESS HAS NO POO!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There is only one station, on elitist island.  THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.  WE MUST USE AS MANY MINECARTS AS POSSIBLE.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

First of all, cargo train for the gold rush.  Should help with traffic, as well as getting cargo to where it needs to go.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

DING LEVEL UP!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We need to expand the quarters... more land!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I managed to fit another road for the gold rush, further helping with traffic and allowing more expansion later.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now, back to our new land purchase!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It has very few natural resources, except for ore, but that's alright.

First passthrough for the roads:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Remember the train stations?  Now there is a passenger one here.  Also a bus route.  It should let anyone living here easily get to any other train station on the island.  Hopefully it will let them get to the gold rush easily, they were having trouble getting workers.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We also unlocked CARGO DOCKS, which I decided to place near the forges.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

AFTER A QUICK RESHUFFLE

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

What is this road for!?  I was trying to figure it out.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I feel kind of stupid, all that effort into expanding and I just noticed there is another island that wasn't claimed.  Whoops.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I think this means we need more blue stuff.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

MORE BLUE STUFF.  Also, the forge area has a cargo station, and the new commercial area has a passenger station.  TRAINS

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Well this don't look right.  It's probably just a graphical glitch, but I re-jiggered it anyway.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Alright, so it's not the most helpful bit of land.  BUT IT'S A VOLCANO.  WE MUST HAVE IT.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Right before my turn ended, I took care of a bunch of problems.  I popped down a lot of schools, crematoriums, police stations and fire stations.  It -should- have taken care of most things.

that glitch on the rails isn't just graphical, trains can't pass if the rails aren't laid by the game. Too acute an angle.

I really want that one as a "when". I want "grubs", and "virgin woman" to turn into a dragon. and monkey children to suddenly sprout wings. And I want the Dwarven Mutant Academy to only gain their powers upon reaching puberty. I also have a whole host of odd creatures that only make sense if I divide them into children and adults.

Also, tadpoles.

Ah!  Alright, so I was right to fix it then.  Cool.  Thanks for letting me know.

Nice!  I can't believe I forgot to hook up the cargo dock.  Blehh.  By the way, is that a mod where you could see the traffic lines, or just a feature I didn't know about?

Good job with the traffic handling!  Roundabouts for everyone, and it looks like the part I added on is working well.  The pedestrian paths are so people can get to the bus stops, by the way.

Also:  Super excited about the volcano.  That's the reason I bought it.  YES.
