I need to train my engravers some more before they'll produce anything notable. Right now they're doing no-quality renderings of coffins (symbol of The Square Wheel, the local government.) Very appropriate, though.

There isn't anything remarkable going on in the battle reports either, this being a calm period after sealing all monster lairs and before hitting the megabeast pop limit. Ngostz mauled one lamb who had strayed too far from its pasture and then climbed back to his pillar, that's all. I trust things will get more interesting after one or two migration waves.

As soon as people get proficient with engraving, you'll be getting some good stuff.

Your local government is called the "Square Wheel", with a symbol of a coffin?
DId you choose this, or is the RNG toying with us?

The name is sort of half-random; I have a habit of hitting (r)andom name at embark screen few times until I get something that's not completely stupid. Same for the fortress name.

The coffin is completely random, but I have a feeling it will be very appropriate.

Ngostz Conflictmessiah the Steamy Diamond is dead! Or should I say destroyed? Broken? I really don't know. Tragedy nearly struck when a fleeing impala drew Ngostz towards my ill-equipped militia who were trying to stop a pack of vultures harassing the foragers. Half of the militia was killed very quickly but then the newest militia recruit Tirist Steamyrim (curious coincidence with the name there) nearly bisected Ngostz with her steel battle axe. I'll be watching her career with interest.

Here's the combat report for those who were interested about them:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Upon death Ngostz's remains turned into a masterful bronze statue of a longfin mako shark. These things just happen, I guess.

For now the surface is completely free of monsters. Underground the dragon Olsmo the Luxurious Heat of Glows still keeps her uneasy truce with the six remaining bronze colossi Litast Mostransacked the Rapid Clash, Savot Esteemcoal the Lancer of Domination, Snuko Minefierce the Robustness of Hatchets, Sapa Largeled the Claw of Wars, Inire Combatshock the Fierce Prestige and Whipchucked the Champion of Searching. In addition to them the only monsters alive are st the cyclops and Rino Goalbraved the ettin, asleep in their walled-off lairs.

I already have the entrance surrounded with cage traps and carpenters and mechanics are feverishly producing more parts for traps. At some point I'm planning to breach the underground Fight Club structure again and lead the surviving monsters into a trap corridor. They will have special places in my upcoming megabeast zoo.

However, I'm planning to meet majority of the incoming monsters with military force. It wouldn't be sporting otherwise.

Engravers are slowly learning their trade and are finally starting to come up with something else than coffins. Good timing, the temporary dining room was starting to look a bit grim.

Most historical engravings seem to represent the final confrontation of roc hydra Omsuth Yearlingmange and king Sigun Smoothwhips:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Sigun Smoothwhips was the last king of the now extinct dwarven civilization The Steamy Door (what is it with everything being "steamy" in this world?) Omsuth the roc hydra might well be visiting Savagesilver in the future.

Of course there are some references to more recent events:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The rest are pictures of mundane things and dwarven deities. The pantheon of The Road of Slaughters seems to be a rather... literal bunch. It must reflect the dwarven psyche when they worship beings like:

- The Gem of Bejeweling, goddess of wealth
- s the Sienna Iron, god of metals
- The Crazy-Shock of Clobbering, goddess of fortresses and war
- Fenglel the God-forsaken spiders, goddess of suicide, death and murder

I think I'm one migration wave away from the megabeast population limit. The militia is still badly undertrained and under-equipped. I sense FUN ahead...

You have a fetish world in your hands. Hot steamy action all over the place. Water, sweat and blood evaporating in fires of dragons and conflict.

Does your world contain any released demons?

Yes, there were four demons who "in time before time thrust a spire of slade up from the underworld... and established a gateway between worlds." Of those two are still alive: Remzu Demonshoves the Larval Cancer and Subtledream the Jewel of Seducers, both commanding goblin civilizations in the lowlands.

Oh, and one of the dead demons, Nala Sinfloods, was killed by a hydra named... Droolpusses the Yell of Lust. I'm starting to agree with you about that fetish world.

Can't wait for you to reach the megabeast limit. Also, laughing rocs. Caw caw caw caw caw.

ALL THE NAMES FIT SO WELL. ALL OF THEM.

It's the spheres. They influence names, so all of the bronze colossi having names taken from the METAL words, the STRENGTH words and the WAR words ensures that they all have manly names.

You seem to have mixed up a roc with a hydra. Also, I can't wait to see what happens when you hit the megabeast arrival limit.

So I have! I must have been thinking about the other engraving when I wrote that.

I should break the limit very shortly, if no more dwarves will end up filling "national symbols." I've started using the old abandoned minotaur labyrinth as burial grounds. Let's see how long it takes to fill it up.

My latest rig is made out of tougher stuff then most, so I have, using your constraints, managed to generate a world with the maximum number of titans, megabeasts, semimegabeasts, and night trolls!

Furthermore, I have manually decreased the size of the land by increasing the amount of ocean so that the whole playable field is but a tiny island, achiving an effect similar to the aclaimed monster island, running an in development version of the mod I've been spending all my time on. After giving myself a 2000 point embark for the maximum bang for my buck, I settled on embarking near a cave, and while I don't think I hit the jackpot that you have in spite of the larger monster density, the two lairs I did find are quite interesting in their own way:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

An ettin village! The bulk of the children seem to spend their time huddled in a lair that I reckon is two sizes too small for them, while a group of guards stands on the surface. Hope they won't mind the new neighbors.

You mean you have a world with 100 000 megabeasts and 100 000 semimegabeasts?!? I bow to your superior hardware. My older i7 went comatose when I tried to generate a similar world.

I too noticed that similar monsters seem to like each others company; I wonder if that's intended behavior or just a happy accident?

Huh. That's kinda cute, in a way. I bet Ettin childcare is far nicer than dwarven childcare.
