We are alone now.

Cortis, what in the darkest pit of hell are you doing? Do you want more people dying?

We have just usurped the barony. Our legitimacy in this world is hairline thin. If we want people to recognize our existence, we will have to fight with all the honor and chivalry that others expect of us. If word got around that we slaughter defenseless soldiers in their sleep, than we would have no support from anybody else. This is a bigger issue than it may seem. We need to get our new government some prestige.

Prestige means nothing if most of our men are slaughtered! I want us all to come back home. And by the Sun, I will keep my men alive. They're joining the surprise groups. You can join me in the bait if you need prestige, but do not play general when you are hardly under a baron.

I think your idea about the fake retreat and ambush is absolutely brilliant! It was your idea about killing in the night that I didn't like. What part of my idea puts our men's lives at more risk than they would otherwise?

Im sorry I snapped like that, Cortis... But let's face it. We aren't well armed, or armored, and honor and valor, the human spirit, can only go so far. At some point, the best choice is not a sword aimed at chests, it's a dagger aimed at backs. And I have a feeling now is that time for the underhanded.

What do you propose? Even if it is the best choice, I am not going to murder helpless men. I would be willing to do some sabotage. What kind of an effect do you think a flaming arrow at their tents would have on their morale?

And burning men! Who lament of their eternal damnation in the woods of their victors! Heheheh... Genius thinking, Cortis!

I don't believe that it would cause any deaths, but it would certainly make their life at the camp miserable. Perhaps, we could use this to goad them into attacking our encampment.

Let us speak with the Count then.

Go to the count with Cortis, and discuss our plan

Turn 2: Planning
~North of Tradebridge, in Shadset County~
Jongo and Cortis returned to the Count to find him talking with the captain in charge of the archers.
”Gentlemen, this fellow here is in charge of the archers. Good guy, he is, and think you’re idea is good as well. Guarding the archers, he’s fond of that! What've you decided between the two of ya? Any new suggestions?”

We were suggesting a little sabotage to lower their morale, and possibly use that to goad them into attacking us in our encampment. We could set fire to their tents, or something.

The Count looked upset by the suggestion. "Now look here, I thought we'd just done away with this suggestion of attacking them in their sleep? We had a great plan. They'd come out, they'd meet our front, and two other groups would close in. What need is there for setting fire to tents?"

It will not be in their sleep. They will be wide awake and put out the fire almost immidiately. The only effect is it will reduce their morale.

We would also have several soldiers set fire to wooden men, and make them lament of defeat in these lands. The superstitious would go insane!

"Hmmm... I will allow it. Make whatever preparations you need, in the morning, when the sun is a thumb above the horizon, we will attack. Four archers will join you to light the fires, and then you will flee into the forest to join one of the flanking groups, while five soldiers will act as decoys and run towards the main group."
