The Fallen City of Círannon. Civilizations may endure above the stormclouds, but sometimes they fall. Círannon fell to dark and powerful magic. Living shadows dragged it down beneath the clouds and crashed it against the surface of the earth. Now its ruins, still wild with rampant magic, lay scattered on the plain of Aul. Bold adventurers and scavengers may pick it apart for items of magic or lost treasures, but must beware the shadows that are said to still dwell within its broken walls...

The adventurer travels south of the Fallen City, where he finds...

The Crystal Rill, a great river which runs to the east, and has crystals growing in it's depths. It is said divers from Círannon had once scavenged it's bed for the magical crystals, but the art of harvesting them has been long lost. On days when the water is clear, and it has been long since a storm, the glittering shapes may be seen, taunting the observer.

A Tribe of Webclaws, feeding on the remains of dead and or dying, this race of crablike people have thrived in the wasteland left from the destructive path of of the arcane storms. The only thing stopping this race from controlling the entire surface world is there tendency to resort to cannibalization when they deplete a food source, rather than look for another food source.

The Scorching Hollows. Throughout Lirona caves offer a place of refuge to travelers, an escape from the brutal weather. This isn't so with the Scorching Hollows. These caves are perpetually ablaze, and intermittently spout fire into the sky. Standing at the lip of the cave is described as looking into the depths of some gruesome hell, and a choice between these gaping maws of fire and a storm above is a poor choice indeed.

The constant downpour and the eternal blaze causes an endless stream of steam to surround the Hollows and the lands around it. Many explorers become lost in the mist, following a faint, orange glow they think is their only sign of hope.

It is rumored that deep within these caves, one might find the remnants of the Dwarves, who delved deep into the earth upon the arrival of the storm. This, though, has never been confirmed, as no explorer has ever made it out of the cave alive....

Great to see that you liked the idea enough to make your own :). I love the style of this map, too.

Many tales are told of this place; another such story is that, long ago, there was a great city of men upon this spot. They built great towers and mighty walls, declaring that their legacy would stand in ages to come, but they were blind to the coming storms. The towers that had once dominated the skies could not defy the fell and magical winds as they roared across the world, tearing stone from stone and throwing down the great structures. The men raged against the cold winds, and in their pride, they refused to flee to the skies with the other, refusing to abandon this city. As their halls toppled around them, they wrought a terrible spell, casting their city into the fiery depths of the earth rather than allow the storms to claim them.

Yeah, this is really awesome!

I don't have anything to add to the current place, but I'll be watching with interest...

Also, might be contacting Shadowhammer to see if I could incorporate his map into my D&D game. O_o It's great material!

Enduring the heat of the Scorching Hollows, our hero continues on his journey. He travels east, where he encounters...

The Pinion Plane One of Lirona's enduring mysteries, it's believed this place has some connection to the Scorching Hollow's-but what, if any, has yet to be discovered. It's curiosity is the network of strange rotating crystals interlocked underneath it's soil-there are hundreds of them, endlessly spinning, grinding up the land-apparently to no purpose.

The earth here is soft and sandy from the constant movement of things underneath the ground-the land itself is tormented from within, and the terrain changes daily, even hourly as they revolve. Hills rise and fall in the passing of hours. One does not rest or sleep here with any ease. At any moment, the rotations may open a massive gaping pit-and those who fall in fall prey to merciless spinning and grinding.

This place is only populated by those creatures that can easily take flight-all others steer clear of the short lived hills and pits, and the endless screech of twisting, tormented crystal teeth.

((technical edit because high fantasy probably doesn't do gears. Like batman!

/Obscure reference ))

Avoiding the treacherous earth of the Pinion Plain, the adventurer turns south to the gently winding Crystal Rill, where he finds...

The Surging Marsh. A low lying swamp, this area's water table is intimately connected to the Crystal Rill, and it experiences swells and recessions according to strength of the river. The extremely variable weather of the region leads to huge changes in water level, and so most plants have long roots which ate accustomed to being exposed and submerged at frequent, but irregular, intervals.
