They left the things that were nailed down. Does that include burnable wood?

The Shed & The Hill
« Reply #47 on: April 09, 2015, 05:42:01 pm »

(Slightly more RTDish format, due to the fact I'm on my phone. For similar reasons, can't post the inventory. Only change would be the lantern going down by one.)
"We need cover from the rain. I'll be going inside the shed now. What did you see?"
Go into the shed.
You see what the others see: a big problem.
A few solutions come to mind. Perhaps you could buy some supplies from the stores nearby. However, the only ones that are in walking distance would be Kaput Lumber (For firewood), Muzeltov's General Store (For food), and The Shooting Star (For vodka). All are within five minutes walk, but they will close soon judging by the position of the moon: Kaput in ten, Muzeltov in fifteen, and the pub in twenty.
Of course, you could always search in the forest for firewood and mushrooms, or the burnt down remnants of your family's property. However, that may be risky considering the bandit and animal problem this district has.
"no no no no No!"
Search the shed for anything that might have been left behind, or even just loose boards I could take back as firewood. Anything I can try to use to deal with this disaster.
Nada. Jack. Zip. the only thing remaining are these stupid rubles. They're coins to boot, so you can't burn them either. How could you have failed your family this much?
Hearing the cries, Arvil' checks for tracks leading out of the possible exits of the shed.
You check the area for tracks. You find a few paw marks by the back of the shed that fade away rounding the corner and nothing else. The drizzle is rolling down your neck and soaking your clothes.
They left the things that were nailed down. Does that include burnable wood?
You're in luck! They left the table at the back. You lift it up... And it promptly snaps in two. The damn thing is rotted out with mold, and the parts that aren't are now splinters lodged in your hand.

Look for weapons to defend ourselves in the case of an animal or bandit attack.

Pick splinters from hands, gather rubles, follow to Kaput.

"Yes, and let's be quick about it."

You certainly can, though a character sheet would be handy.
Look for weapons to defend ourselves in the case of an animal or bandit attack.
You know there is no weapons in the barn and the contents of the shed are not getting any less stolen. Crestfallen, you suppose that Pavel's hatchet shall have to do.
Quote from: The Rest
To Kaput!
Before heading to Kaput Lumber, Pavel grabs the rubles and stuffs them into his pocket. He and Arvil' rejoin the group as they head down the hill. By the bottom of the hill the lantern is growing awfully dim. The lights of the barn are behind them as they walk over collapsed fences and farmland overtaken by weeds. Father used to say, sometime after the initial confiscations but well before his departure, that soon every inch of their land would be tall with wheat and corn like it was the good times once more. That was the last time anyone can remember his smile gracing his face.
They arrive at the road where the laborers once dragged bags of wheat back to the barn. Following it, they briefly enter a patch of trees.
Arvil' holds his hand up and everyone stops. There is silence for five seconds.
...
A crow calls.
"So that was it," says Arvil'. "I was fearing worse."
Everyone continues on. Kaput Lumber is within sight. It may be a good time deciding what your priorities for purchases may be. Kaput closes in five minutes, Muzeltov in ten, and the Shooting Star in fifteen. It will take ten minutes to reach the Shooting Star, but Muzeltov is closer and will take the regular five minutes.

"30 for wood, 50 for food, 20 for vodka, 100 for reserve in case they charge us too much. Lets go already!"
cried out Maryn the worried 8-year-old

"Yes, yes, each take some! I'll buy the wood, meet me outside here when you're done."

Split the rubles three ways, 66 each. Buy as much wood as possible with own 66.

Kaput Lumber & Outside
« Reply #58 on: April 11, 2015, 06:19:44 pm »

A Query:
Arvil' wishes to head to the food store while Pavel is going inside Kaput Lumber. Where do Svetlana and Maryn want to go, if they want to go anywhere at all? No time will be spent deciding this in-character: it will be presumed that you were on your way during this particular turn. Also, Arvil', do you still wish to discuss or are you ready to go to the food store?
Quote from: Flying Dice
Into Kaput's
You open the door to the lumber store, glad to be out of the rain for once. In the back you can still hear the sawblades grinding while Mr Kaput, looking like some delicate hummingbird infested with leprosy, lies slumped in his chair. He blinks slowly and draws in air like a whale before speaking, somehow hoarse despite his dramatic attempts.
"Who is that knocking on my door on such a terrible night!" he says. "Answer yourself or I shall report you to the Red Guard!"
You inform him that you're Pavel, and that the Red Guard stopped when Red October ended. He seems to calm down, mostly because he probably doesn't remember who he's supposed to report 'villains' to. You ask him what the price for firewood is these days. He coughs up a figurative lung while he roots around under the table. He takes out a scrap of paper and reads agonizingly slow.
"It is... 30 rubles a bundle, my child," he says. "A reasonable price, so it will be and always has been."
Two bundles of firewood shall do for a night... but not much more then that. Perhaps there is room for bargaining.
Whilst you consider, the lantern quietly runs out of fuel.

"Well Maryn, where should we go? Arvil' has said that he wants to go to the food store, so shall we go to the pub?"
Go to the pub, for vodka.
