Name: Maryn
Skill: Determined. Maryn is stubborn and strong-willed, able to push herself though pain, discomfort, or discouraging thoughts.
Relation: Daughter
Age: 8
Motivation for that age: Determination / Overconfidence. Maryn is a recurring character of mine.

Four have risen to the occasion.
Arvil'
"Ah, Arvil'," says one of the elders. "Of course the proudest member of our family rose to the occasion. You declared yourself above us with your books and your potions, but when the state calls for it you will gladly lay in filth like the rest of us."
"Silence, he deserves not to hear that," says another elder. "We are glad of your assistance, Arvil'."

Maryn
"Look, the child wants to play night games!" says an elder. "Go to sleep in the loft above, child, you are well past the witching hour."
"If we deny her what she seeks, we will never hear the end of it," says another elder. "We should let her outside. Perhaps then she will understand why we deny her some things."
"A lesson she won't forget," an elder in agreement says.

Pavel
Spoiler: Pavel the Blooded (click to show/hide)
"They are truly twins, Arvil' and Pavel! Like a pair of hands they are," says an elder. "So alike yet so opposing."
"One seeks to heal, and another seems to find something within death," says another elder. "After the war neither were the same."
"They will be useful, very very useful. Thank you, Pavel, for your assistance," says the first elder.

Svetlana
Spoiler: Svetlana the Motherly (click to show/hide)
"Ah, Svetlana," says an elder. "Too old for us and too young for the little darlings, aren't you? The younger of our litter, weren't you? You weren't there when mother said 'What good is youth without wisdom, and what good is age without heart?'"
"No good, no good," says another elder. "Look after these children, won't you? I can't bear to think of what could happen to them out there."
"Please do," says an elder. "Please do."

You are in the family barn. It is made out of cheap wood and has a floor of straw above tilled ground. It is currently raining outside. The fire is low and will be out within an hour. There is two doors, a small one in the side and a large door that lifts off the ground by a pulley system.
Spoiler: Inventory (click to show/hide)

I go to the small door and crack it open, peeking outside whilst I recall my favorite routes to the shed.

EDIT: action changed later on, leaving this one untouched for ease of reading.

((I actually did, and it didn't say anything about there not being any wood inside the barn. However, I will rephrase my action.))

Look for firewood, or any fuel to keep the fire going.

Pavel gathers himself and walks up beside Arvil and Maryn, ruffling the latter's hair, "The shed has not grown legs and walked off, I trust?"

Look out of the small door. What's the situation outside, as best as I can tell?

"Headstrong..." Pavel sighs, tucking his hatchet into his belt and bracing himself against the bitterly cold wind as he steps outside, eyes squinting as he peers around through the darkness and rain. "I'd almost rather it be snow, with this damned mud."

To the shed. Be careful, keep one eye on the barn door and the other on Maryn, but don't linger too long in the rain.

"Are you coming or not, Arvil?" he shouts back over his shoulder.
