Santa actually hires gnome fugitives. He mocks them by saying they're elves.

Yes, but the gnome tears are what gives him eternal life. He does not enjoy mocking them, but it is necessary to allow the world the joy of Christmas. So we mock them, because they can take it.

Antiquated lever-action rifles are obviously more effective than semi-auto handguns
didn't you ever play Call of Duty

Hey, you're the expert: do assault rifles generally fire larger calibre bullets than pistols?

Hey, you're the expert: do assault rifles generally fire larger calibre bullets than pistols?

No, they are smaller in all cases I can think of. Even the 9mm, the standard pistol bullet which is often considered "small", is bigger then all standard assault rifles (9mm are 9X19mm while the largest assault rifle bullets you will ever see are 7.62×51mm). There are some exotic and not-widely-used ones that are a little bigger (I think the Russian tried a 9X thirty something that never really caught on), but even those will be smaller then a standard .45 (11.43×23mm, which is absolutely huge and about the size of a .50 BMG width wise which is 12.7×99mm). Why?

(I should probably note that the first number is generally what is considered the "Caliber", and is how wide the barrel of the gun is. The second number is how long the bullet is when still in its case. Rifles almost always have longer bullets but smaller calibers. The bullets are generally actually slightly larger then their caliber in diameter, though they are typically roughly the same anyway. For example the 5.56X45 has a bullet that is actually 5.7mm in diameter)

Is it a little lame to say 'because assault rifle mags look wider'?

No, that is a perfectly legitimate question  :P. I actually thought you might say something like that and was just editing my answer to answer for it^. To recap, the caliber of a gun is how wide the barrel is. The second number is how long the bullet is in its case. Assault rifle mags are longer because the bullets in the case are longer. They aren't actually much wider, thanks in part to how they are double stacked similar in both, but the cases end up being much bigger making the magazine look much bigger. At least, that is what I am saying without putting too much thought into it  :P. Next time I have pistol and rifle mags together I will have to double check.
