I'm not sure if I will though
I've got another year of highschool and two years of college before I make that decision.

Wouldn't the downside of being a nuclear engineer be that if you ever decide you don't like the army anymore, you'll likely be 'terminated'?
Because your specific applied military knowledge (even if it's just reactors not bombs) is too dangerous to let fall into the wrong hands?

No, because military nuclear engineers go on to work in the civilian field all the time. How reactors work isn't exactly classified (you can learn that in civilian schools, after all), and it's not like he'll be working with reactors designed to enrich uranium. And even high-up classified work like SpecOps or the CIA lets people retire.

Ya I'll just be monitored to make sure I don't leak anything.
I'm just going to know how to operate the reactor not reconstruct it.

Also they pay people to stay in longer ((some bonuses to stay longer being $100,000))
Also sign on bonuses for nukes (just going to say that instead of the full title because it's easier) are pretty good too.

So here's my plan if I decide to join the navy.

I'll do two-four years of college at an engineering college for nuclear engineering then join an ROTC program (probably at the university of Michigan) and go into training for this career

I don't think you should do this for the money if only because: what are you going to do with all that money underneath the ocean?

However, if you have family to support then go for it. Though just doing engineering by itself will net you comfortable jobs in the civilian sector.

There is a lot to do with said money.
Such as saving up for a nice house later, Spending it while your in foreign ports ((you're not at sea all the time)), buying a car, saving for your kid's college fund, video games, some strange collection, and that other thing.

Money isn't the only reason I would join, as stated earlier I would get to travel and have good job security.

I'm not sure if they do or not.
Shoulda put IIRC after that

You do get secret info on the reactors depending on what you do.

Not like they can't already monitor me if they wanted to.

Heck if they do they probably already monitor my whole family, since ya know family member in for 30 years...
