Osmium technically occurs naturally, though not in-game.

Haha, I added Osmiridium to my game too.  Theoretically, if dwarves can dig deep enough to find magma, they should be able to find osmium-iridium deposits.  Platinum-group metals are common enough in asteroids but supposedly sank into the Earth's liquid interior during its formation.

Smelting it is another story though...

I do think Lead should be used for ammo and lead warhammer and maces, could be useful as crappy begginer weapons until better blunt weapons can be obtained.

Lead would be ideal, and historical, for sling bullets - if there were slings in the game. They're not hard to mod in (attacking with Throwing skill), but I don't know how to force them to be made of leather/cloth and force bullets to be made of rock or lead instead of weapon metals in an elegant way.

It's a shame we can't make lead paint for our toys we send to the elves.

Lead salts have been used historically for sweetening wine, lead used to line water tanks and made for water pipes.

Lead paints were the least of it.

Can't we already make lead pipes? I think the consensus on lead in food/water is it's a really fun thing to do, and would be great if people would actually get sick because of eating stuff that came in contact with lead.

Lead flasks for the water, realgar and orpiment pots for the food, and don't forget to wash it all down with some radish wine.

One way to do it is to simply not make the sling an item on it's own, but to instead modify another weapon to double as the sling. It doesn't fit hunters very well, since they'd generally not carry a real weapon other than a knife with their sling, but medieval soldiers would often carry a sling with a melee weapon for use when they get close to the enemy.

Alternatively you make the sling and bullets/slingstones produceable only through a custom reaction that requires specific materials. It can be buggy though, and I don't think they'd appear outside of player forts.

I never, ever knew that. That's awesome. I'll have to look that up! Thank you for sharing.

I like the crystal glass idea, makes so much sense. (I think lead weapons other than minecarts and slingshot is silly.)

But have to add: You can do plenty with lead already. All my minecarts are lead. Water-piping (in pumps) is lead. Safety doors are lead. Prison chains are of course lead as well. And last but not least sarcophages are lead. You could even work with lead ammo, when you combine minecarts with small lead items (lead coins?).

The Roman lead pipe system actually didn't likely hurt that many people with lead poisoning.  Because their aqueducts were built to always keep water flowing at all times, what lead was getting into the water was being distributed across a great volume of water, and therefore, the concentration of lead in any given amount of water you drink was rather low.  Additionally, the water was being taken from calcareous sources (read: the water went through flux stone riverbeds) which caused a patina of calcium carbonate to develop along the inside of the pipes, preventing much lead from entering the water supply.

(Rather, the lethal amounts of lead were in their wine, where they used lead as a sweetener...)

Also, for those interested in a lead glaze, I have a small "Expanded Glazes Mod" available here, which allows for 15 historically-accurate glazes, mostly from currently-useless stones and metals.  (I.E. manganese, cobalt, cinnabar, antimony, etc.)

Just as a sidenote, lead pipes don't give off much lead at all, considering they're solid metal, and lead isn't very soluble. I believe some modern installations (historic buildings) still use lead plumbing without hassle, although H&S may have changed that.
