My Typical Adventure Mode Game Comparison

LOCKED

So I played this game for a long time and eventually the game just got really unfun for me to the point where I just don't play it anymore. Yet here is the comparison

---

Old Dwarf Fortress

"Alright it is time to make a character. Now what kind of character do I want to make this time? I feel like maybe an Ax today, so let me just adjust the points to reflect this. Perfect!

Ugh! I can't equip, let me look at a guide... Ok that is how I do it I'll just have to fiddle with it for a while.

Alright time to explore, I think I want to make my guy the greatest hero of all time. Hey, I am gaining quite the rep. I think I'll try exploring the world now. Huh, ok so only human settlements? Ok well according to my world map I can find one up here! Ohh no! Goblin ambush! Ha! I trained for this yeah!

Ohh I died... Well this was fun, Ok lets make another one I want another spear user and maybe I'll hire all the drunks in town.

Oh a random monster attack. Whoa they are being slaughtered I better help! I kind of wish I could give you guys actual weapons...

I really wish there was more to do..."

---

New Dwarf Fortress

"Alright time to play the game. Since I don't want to have a large posse I am going to have to make a character to defeat boogeymen meaning I need a weapon that does bleeding and won't get stuck as often. So that means I need to use Swords and maybe Axes... Ok done. Now I need my agility at max otherwise they will kill me outright... Ok.

Alright time to explore... Ok... where is everything? Uhhh Rivers keep getting in my way, I should just cross them... and I drowned... Ok remake the character... Ok I remembered to give him some swimming but I feel like becoming a necromancer and lucky for me I remembered to take reading.

Ok so this time I won't be dealing with Boogeymen because I am going to have a large posse, so this time I get to use the mace my favorite weapon. Ok I have a large group, I'll train up a bit... What a mission to kill a hydra? This is going to be awesome! ohh... my Posse killed them and I didn't do anything... Ok... Next mission? Ohh my posse is killing everything.

Whatever I can get the necromancer! He is going down! and since he has a giant herd of undead there is no way my posse is going to kill them. Dear goodness where is it? Ok my world map says it is left but there is a river here... Ok I'll cross it... Wait boogeymen? Why? I have a large posse... Ooooooh... they refused to cross that river. Well I'll kill those Boogeymen! Ohh... I am using a mace aren't I? Whelp (note this has been fixed in latest version since I believe you can pulp their brains in) I lost. Well that was a bummer.

Ok now it took me a bit but I finally became a necromancer YEAH! and... there is nothing to do. Ok... Well what about Werewolf, Come on bite me! Bite me! ugh!

Great I played this game for hours and I havn't had one good game yet. Fine game, I'll play it your way.

Ok so making my character exactly the way the game wants me, getting a posse just the way the game wants me, doing missions within the inner sphere close to home, and there a successful adventurer and this is as boring as dirt.

For so much to do there sure isn't a whole lot I want to do in this

I am going to stop playing for a while, maybe Toady will fix this up over time"

New New Comparison

"Wow, I can hardly even get past world creation... I really don't want to have a tiny world with barely any history.

I'll stop playing for a while, maybe toady will fix this up over time"

"I doubt the game has improved much. Maybe Toady will fix it up later"

It looks more like it's gotten to the point where you don't even want to bother to make the effort to check if improvement has happened.

None of those comparisons seem to have anything to do with the changes between the versions. All that stuff could happen in v0.34.

Reading his name would trigger it. Thinking of him would trigger it. No other circumstances would trigger it- it was strictly related to the concept of Bill Clinton entering the conscious mind.

I still check actually. Right now we are working on instruments.

It is huge jumps. The first one is when I first started to play it. It was really fun.

Then it jumps to the huge Night Creature expansion

Then it jumps to the new "persistent world" update

Then it just goes to now.

...You may not have noticed that that the performance issues with larger worlds were allayed a crapload in 0.40.05.

would be interesting. The only issue is that I can turn Boogeymen off.

I can't turn Rivers off (Actually I can... though it does weird things to the world)... and I am so tired of crossing rivers.

Bogeys don't bleed, mate. Making a character entirely focused on bogey-slaying is less efficient than a Model T with one wheel.

Alright time to explore... Ok... where is everything? Uhhh Rivers keep getting in my way, I should just cross them... and I drowned... Jump instead of swimming. Ok remake the character... Groups now catch up to you if you cross a river without them.

Ok making a few edits and there we go.

----

Anyhow I am checking it out since if world creation fixed itself I might pick up a game or two.

So I am generating the world right now.
-first attempt: Failed
-Second attempt: Failed
-Third Attempt: Failed (though in all fairness for a different reason... In this case all civilizations were absorbed into one)

I think I'll try again later... It might work a bit better when I have many hours.

So you're saying noone can play DF because the world generation is broken...
Aha..
Then explain to me why you seem to be the only person with this problem.
Maybe tossing your IBM 5120 out of the window and trying to use a less aged model?

I came up with it a while ago. I originally used it for threads that tended to devolve into active hostility.

But I am using it here for various reasons I can't get into.

I did PM them about it first mind you. So no one there isn't aware of it.

But at this rate I'll have to remake this thread with the banlist... Just so I can have my thread.

If you don't actually want any discussion I suggest you go talk with your window reflection instead. Don't you realise how ridiculous, pretentious and not to mention impolite such a thing is?

Don't bother thinking about.
He just wants to state his opinion as the 11th commandment.
Everyone who just wants to show that there are ways to circumnavigate the problems mentioned is a heretic and therefore should be put into oblivion.
Normal behaviour, I guess.
