i didn't know.... (well... the wiki did say McD used to fry their fries in 9x% tallow or something like that)

though i haven't seem many dwarves eat any prepared food in the 1st place!

(think i better shrink some of my local food/booze piles.. some of them are... just empty)

but seriously... would tallow / candle be used for lighting?

Any combustible can be used as a light source... Tallow, being refined fat, is definitely combustible.

So yes, Tallow Candles are realistic.

historically tallow was actually the prime scource of light being easy to manufacture and cheap to purchase. In fact its often been a social marker whether one used tallow or wax candles for illumination...

The benefit of tallow being that you can use those useless little bits of candle stubs to fry up your breakfast.    :D  You ever tried to eat pancakes fried in wax?  Me neither, but I bet it would be pretty nasty.

Tallow-fueled candles, torches and lamps would be cool.  And if some dwarf made an artifact brass lamp, maybe a genie would come out if you rubbed it!

Dwarves need a Thomas Edison:

Bit of useless trivia... The main reasons that the more well off used wax candles over tallow is that tallow stinks to high heaven and also smokes a lot  ;)
