I started a fort to test it. I killed the first 6 migrants using an atom-smasher, then starved the dwarven baby they brought...
Months have passed, but I haven't had any ghosts so far.
Have you considered killing them in more violent ways?

Violence is always the answer

Do you even get ghosts from atom smashing them? Doesn't it remove them from some internal list that keeps tracks of deaths or something?

Anyway, ghost fortress sounds spookily fun. May have to try this on my next embark.

Edit: May even do it with a reanimating biome for extra !!FUN!!.

Oops, it seems that is completely random.
I reloaded an old save, suddenly ghosts popped up on granite 1st.

Thanks for the links, bro.

It seemed some dead migrants were culled after a while. I don't know if that was a dfhack feature.

Anyway, by early autumn of 1014, there had been 5 ghosts, including 1 forlorn, 1 moaning and 3 restless.

This time I received 18 migrants and I got a message: Some migrants have arrived, despite the danger.
Obviously the rumor had spred....

Then I locked all of them in a room so they would eventually starved to death.

But every time I did that, someone or something unlocked the door for them...

It is terrifying!

No matter, I removed the door and constructed a wall in its place using a piece of coke.

And everyone dies if you abandon right?

Could repeated abandon & reclaim be a quick way of getting lots of ghosts?

Hang on, can't ghosts appear after burial if you unbury them? That is, if you bury a corpse and then deconstruct the coffin?

If that's so, the easiest way would just be to run a fort for awhile, then open all of that stuff up and watch the show.

That was how Battlefailed III ended, I believe. They collapsed a floor onto their burial chambers.

Down that way lies madness...

I love that Nish shows up as a crime... not murder or anything, just her existence, after I gm-editor'D her back to life so many times, apparently she is now a crime all on her own?
