Archipelago: Hero [SG]
« on: March 30, 2015, 05:22:56 pm »

This is a companion game to the Archapalagio: Patron game
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=148351.msg6019033#msg6019033

You are a hero that can comunicate with a god, this god is the same as the active one in the companion game. If your god dies you stop decieving blessings and other such things. You will also not be able to communicate with your god. The only way for your god to die and you still be a follower is if another god kills your patron.
If follower numbers are low you may become a saint or crusader or some other and attempt to spread the religion. Doing this might empower your god and in turn they may reward you.

So let's start off with the first hero.

What is your name?
Hero description?
There will only be one hero at a time currently

((nevermind about forming a character, I'll just make the first hero for you))

You are Alexei Spiro, you live in a new city one a secluded island.
You father is quarantined in the prison since he has become infected. You are unsure of his condition.
Your mother has died from plague.
You and your three younger siblings have been taking care of yourselves for several weeks now. You are a druid warrior in the military but since the plague you have been allowed to take care of your siblings. Your two brothers work in the clockwork factories every day and your younger sister goes to school daily. You escort them through the streets to where they need to go but now that the plague is almost over you feel a sort of  connection to your god, one you are not familiar with. You go to the temple to ask the priests what is going on and you find out that you are a hero, a person with a special connection to their god like the priests but not used for preaching to the population but one used to lead the god's followers or go on special missions for your god.

You collect your equipment and prepare for your first mission.
You have a short sword, small shield, light leather armor, short spear, and a partially trained young horse.
((mission will come when one is made in other thread))

you know some first aid magic and proficient combat magic
you also understand the basics of clockwork/gears and can make minor fixes to clockwork assemblies.

also your sword is enchanted with fire damage, your shield has a gear assembly in it that allows for strong shield bashing and has a magical ward build in.
Your armor allows you to be fast and flexible, it has enchantments in it to resist magical damage. Your spear is light but strong and can be thrown or used as a melee weapon, it has mechanical barbs built into it that can be retracted to easily pull the spear out of your enemies or be locked so they can't pull it out of them if thrown into them.

You receive your first mission.
You are to explore a neighboring island with three other citizens.
Two of them will be experienced sailors and the third will be a survivalist.
You do not know them but your god has arrange messages to them so they know they are to be led by you.

As you go to the port to meet them you find the survivalist is a fellow warrior but he is not cavalry but instead a forester/infantry. The two sailors are minorly famous on the island for being prominent sailors that often race in boat races and compete in local fishing events. Their boat,¨The Blue Abyss¨ is a deep water vessel with a gear assembly that runs its two rudders, two steam stacks rise from its deck.
((the survivalist is walking next to you and tells you who the two boatmen are))

did you bring your horse with you or leave it at the stables?
((your siblings are being taken care of by the temple))

Does combat magic include basic enchanting? Because a temporarily slightly magic sword can be the difference between life and death.

Your sword is permanently enchanted.
You have no education in enchanting, it's a non combatant job since it's time consuming.
Your combat magic is basicaly wind blasts that can knock opponents down, fire balls that can ignite flammable objects and clothing, and ice blasts that can freeze liquids and damage flesh. You are not adept enough to cast electric spells.
You can do minor healing such as closing wounds and stopping bleeding.
PM me or ask here for questions about magic use, I'll allow some free form use I.E. Making up your own spells.

I'm assuming you don't take your horse with you

You get to the dock and meet the sailors who will be taking you on your adventure.
One is an older man with a long grey beard, he is dressed in leather pants and a whale leather sleeveless unbuttoned jacket. The other is younger with a thick but well kept brown beard and short cut hair, he is dressed in leather pants and a shirtsleeve cotton shirt.
The older one is sharpening a tri shot harpoon and the younger one seems to be rolling up a net preparing for a trolling (large net fishing, I think that's the right word) trip.
The survivalist next to you is on similar armor but is armed with a small mechanical crossbow and two daggers.

The younger fisherman doesn't notice either of you approach and continues working on his net. The older one greets both of you, he sounds like he's buzzed,¨Eih, are you the boys we be told about to take to Markeso Island?¨
The forester looks up to you,¨That's us right?¨

The fisherman pulls out an envelope will the god's seal on it,¨I was delivered this, said I was taking a 'hero' to an unexplored island. Figured Markeso island would be a good one for such a trip¨. He gives a hardy laugh and the young fisherman gives a grin. The forester pulls out a letter with a similar seal. You have revived one with the same seal as well.

The old fisherman laughs more,¨So when will we be gettin' to the island then?¨

You all set off on your journey to Markeso island. On the short trip you share a round of drinks and get to know each other a bit better.

You reach a small makeshift dock on the eastern coast of the small island. The island is covered in thick, lush forest. There are many creatures that walk the shores and forest who have no fear of the people who have arrived. How do you explore? Do you look for anything in particular?

Take a look at the creatures on the shore; Figure out what may or may not be dangerous and what may or may not be good to devour, if possible.
You said they don't fear us, but not that we shouldn't fear them.

Also, read over the letter carefully, taking in EXACTLY what it says.
This way we can choose to follow the letter of the, well, letter but violate the spirit, if we so choose.

It seems that most of the critters are (in the forest) reptilian a with bright feathers and (on the shore) crustacean a with small but sharp pincers.
The reptilian a varry in size from small pigeon like ones that peck at your boots thinking they are food to tracks of large building sized ones. The crustacean varry from crabs the size of your fingernail digging in the sand to lobsteresque ones the size of a canoe.

You read the letter and it specifies that, to prove your worth as a hero, you must go with the people chosen to help you to explore an unexplored island and prove your skills as a hero.

"Righto, this letter is vague! Could you three define 'explore' for this island? How much must be explored? Are there any circumstances you can think of in which certain parts do not need to be explored at all?

And 'prove my skills'? What's that about? Wouldn't what defines a hero's skills be different in the eyes of different people?"

The older man only slightly buzzed responds,"Well not many people come to this island for it's thick woods so I assume it just means wandering around for a bit looking for anything slightly useful. The critters here are pretty strange maybe we could find a new mount or harvest animal. The plants may be exotic in the deep of the woods too. Exotic plants can grab a fair amount of coin. As for proving your skills that usualy means showing that you are worthy of being a hero, sure it's opinionated but when someone kills a Minataur with his bare hands you can't argue. It's stuff like that that gets you the title or proof of it. Maybe our god has set up beasts in these woods for you to fight."
