Shattered Souls [Multiplayer RPG]
« on: March 30, 2015, 07:50:07 am »

The world of Alleria is a war torn place. Mercenaries fight alongside loyal soldiers in the endless feuds of city states, whilst merchants and craftsmen in cities mourn their lost husbands and wives. Foolhardy adventurers risk their lives for whispered rumours of power, whilst strange creatures guard the mountains that hem in the realm.

The world around you is black. No light, no sound, no sensation. You try to turn your head, but nothing changes. Your head doesn’t even seem to react. Then you remember - flashes of blood, of violence; poison and deceit; a soft bed and family. You remember your death.

Is this the afterlife? You ask yourself.
NO. Comes the answer. YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN A SECOND CHANCE.
A pause follows, and the black lightens, a room coming into focus…

I'm in, but this might take a moment to get my sheet made, got stuff to do.

Exactly how rare is magic, and how obvious is it when it happens. By this I mean when DOES magic happens is It boom! Flaming sword of awesomeness or "a soft light envelops your wounds and seals them.

Or is it more boring like "you feal a faint wind, fate favors you, +1 to chances of survival"

It varies depending on the caster or effect - a more outgoing caster may have a more obvious shade of magic. It will however mostly tend to somewhere between the two examples given above. The 'soft light' example is quite a good one.

For the rarity - well, dedicated casters are not a thing. A village may have a healer with an unnatural talent, or a warrior's sword may burst into flames whenever he goes into battle. There may be a couple such people in a city - though that's not to say there aren't more who don't know about their talent. It isn't known exactly how many people could potentially use magic, but scholars guess that many people who could never find out.

Fixed---
-----fixed agian

NAME: embrus
PERSONALITY: he is somewhat kind hearted but if you stand in his way or if he simply feels like it he will kill you, however he almost never turns on those he knows. He can be quite benevolent and loves children, making harming them one of the best ways to incite his wrath.
BACKGROUND: born to a small village full of poverty he sought more. Learning the way of the sword he began to adventure. And discovered his magic affinity for fire and darkness. He seeks to carve out his own kingdom were people live happily, and we're light and dark dance in harmony.

Stats: You have 6 points to distribute here. All stats start at 1.
WILLPOWER:2
AFFINITY: 4
SKILL: 3

Did I do that right? And is that magic skill enough to do the flaming sword?
And we can get increased in stats later right?

Ah, no. Affinity and skill are both numerical, rather than typed - so you have 6 points to add to willpower, affinity, and skill, which apply to everything they cover.

Likewise, whilst a character could access any magic consciously, that would require a high affinity score, which would drain a lot from other stats. I won't stop anyone, but I wouldn't recommend this.

Also, how did your character die? - all the characters are souls at this point.

Stat increase is possible, but not guaranteed - there is no leveling system.

@ endless: all stats start at 1, so you can add 1 to each.

@Urist: A little more would be nice, but it's less about the quantity and more about getting the character across - after all, not everyone has done vast amounts with their life.

Based on Carthage and Rome. The romans never really discovered steel making - their steel was actually rather rubbish. Instead, at the time, bronze was considered superior for armour due to the ability for craftsmen to work it, and iron was most common for weapons. Wootz steel was sold to the romans in small amounts, but they only ever really made it into a few sword blades.
