"What... what monstrosity is this? You have the right of it, Regina..."

Follow Regina, quickly!

Frightened by the monster, Felicity decided to stick with Ayzebel and Regina and make for the exit rather than attack it.

Kanders stares, open mouthed, for a moment, before getting up and booking it.

Embrus

With a cry you charge the skeleton, your iron bar clutched in your usable hand. You weave between the rising bones unharmed, and land a solid blow on the thing’s shin. A single bone - a cracked fragment of pelvis - falls loose. However, it stops halfway to the floor, before flying back to its place.

A shadow drifts over you, drawing your vision first to the now clear floor, and then to the shape above you. Two twin green flames flicker in the sockets of a gross parody of a skull - itself composed of smaller skulls. Runes, themselves lined with green fire, mark the scalps of each of the components. It opens its mouth in a noiseless roar, revealing teeth made of swords, and out of the corner of your eye you see it draw back one monstrous arm.

Others

Following Regina, you circle the room, coming to the door as Embrus swings his bar at the skeleton. Ayzebel tries the door as Regina dives for her stave through the cloud of bones. She emerges unharmed, stave in hand, as Ayzebel discovers the door to be jammed stuck. It may take some force to open.

A crack comes from behind you, and you turn to find the skeleton creaking into motion. It stands a fractal horror, entire skeletons integrated into itself, armour filling the gaps between with iron and steel. A faint green light emanates through the cracks in its ‘skull’. before your eyes, it bends down slightly, inspecting Embrus as a man might some pest, and brings its arm back. Its nails glimmer sharp with the points of knives.

"Ayzabear...Glassatria...whatever your name! Put that scimitar of yours in the door, and we all need to help lever the door open. Quickly!"

Action: Use Ayzebel's scimitar as a lever to help wrench the door open. Everyone push!

With a growl, she wedged the sword as deep as it would go in the doorjamb and levered on it.
"Come on, you goat's bastard, open!"

Action: Use Ayzebel's scimitar as a lever to help wrench the door open. Everyone push!

If that doesn't work, just batter the damn thing down

For some reason, Regina bursts out laughing while they struggle to open the door between rainy life and bony death. Perhaps she has gone mad.

"Ahahaha!...You know, this whole situation reminds me of that one time in Thurdrucken! It's uncanny!"

"I have... no idea what you're talking about!" Inbetween heaves on the sword, Ayzebel spared a second to look at the laughing woman incredulously. Had she snapped?

"No, it's hilarious! I was with a group of strangers, like this, and we were trying to wrench a door open, like so, and there was a fool who wasn't running, like that! The monster was a Thurdruckian Marble Golem, though! He was really angry!

No, the really funny part-the really amusing part-is that it was raining then, too!"
She says, chuckling. And heaving that sword, of course.

Kanders whimpers slightly at the sight of the thing, then tries to see if he can find anything around or about the door and it's frame that would make it easier to pry open. He was't immensely strong; he was smart, and perceptive. And this body understood that too...

Embrus

You react quickly, but the skeleton adjusts for your movements, its iron nails moving rapidly towards you. In a last, desperate attempt to evade, you leap upwards, grasping at the creature with your empty hand - and forgetting it is bound in a sling.

As you drop, the hand hits you like a brick wall. It doesn’t bother to hold you, merely swatting you aside, to smash hard against the actual wall. Your side is cut open with numerous gashes from the horror’s steel, and fragments of bone pepper the wounds.

You lie still for a second, your life force draining away, before you try to move. Your body hardly reacts. It is then you realise the bone fragments originated from you. You let out a low moan, and the air leaves your broken body.

Ayzebel, Regina, Felicity

Ayzebel stabs her scimitar hastily into the crack in the door, pulling back to lever it open. Regina and Felicity add their weight, and the door flies open to the sound of two cracks in quick succession. Only one came from the door.

Turning, you see the skeleton beginning to turn, its left hand drips blood onto the ground, and the crumpled body of Embrus lies at the base of the wall to your right. It twitches, just once, before it seems to go limp, as if it has been dead for days. The corpse’s right arm is absent, and that same side lies a bloody, broken mess.

The door lies open behind you. From outside comes the soft patter of rain on dirt, and the fresh morning light, in stark contrast to what lies within.

"Go. Now."

Ayzebel wasted no time in heading through the door, where she waited until the others had gone through before slamming it shut and legging it after them.

Regina ran, not looking back...hearing was enough.

"...the story ends always the same way..." she muttered quietly. It was her fault, she thought. Obviously, Embrus had chosen to die a Hero-distracting the monster, rather than be a burden to them. Because of his broken arm, he couldn't move fast enough...the arm that had been broken, because she failed to defend him...

It was my fault, she thought.
