Looks interesting. I'll bite.
NAME: Kanders Denres tuCessern
PERSONALITY: Grim, dour, argumentative, and stubborn, but also curious, bright, and occasionally even playful, to those he knows.
BACKGROUND: Once, there was a man, by the name of Kanders, born to the Cessern family. A poor but technically noble family within the holdings of a more powerful lord in the feudal lands of Restienn, Kanders did not grow up in decadence; he did grow up with ambition, however, and questioning the world around him. Why didn't the other families know their servant's names? Why were the merchant houses allowed to grow so wealthy through lies and corruption? How come there was no time for him to learn to art of swordsmanship like his brothers? None of it seemed fair. Kanders would soon come to learn, however, that life was not fair.
In addition to this ambition, though, he'd always had a fascination for the old, the ancient, and the mysterious. When he came of age, and received a small allotment of inheritance set aside so that he could try to bring wealth to the family, it was only natural that there were two things he most wanted to do. Archaeology, a relatively new field of study, though some might call it grave-digging(Kanders preferred the term 'spelunking'), and magic. Magic, of course, was incredibly rare, and there were doubts as to it's existence, but Kanders felt sure there was something more to those rumors.
Perhaps it is no surprise he died as he did, then. While he managed to bring back some small fortunes for his family and fund further expeditions into ancient tombs and the like, the ancient world is not a safe one. One day, he descended into the site to study some writings by himself, the guards superstitions taking the better of them, as they refused to enter the dilapidated tunnels that night, due to ill omens. Kanders scoffed at their believed cowardice, but he would have done better to listen, for, omen or no, he never returned from those cavernous rooms. His body was found some weeks later when his family paid a small mercenary band with the remains of the fortune he'd obtained to retrieve the corpse for his funeral, but it was already dessicated. The precise cause of death seems unclear, but it seems likely to have been either poison, drowning, or, possibly, considering his present condition...perhaps it was a curse. Yet he had changed nothing. Life was still unfair. People still starved despite their efforts, the corrupt still grew more powerful...he had accomplished almost nothing in life.
But...if he had not accomplished what he wished in life, perhaps he could...in death? If life was not fair...maybe, just maybe....maybe death could be, instead.
