Re: the point about Chaos have some populations of relatively stable, free humans (by 40K terms): So do the Impies. On a vastly larger scale.

That's the thing people forget when they talk about the Imperium. You hear about Tomb Worlds here, genestealer cults there, Ork incursions fuckin' everywhere... because that's what makes for "exciting" plots. The Imperium is fucking gigantic. For every world that's being shit on, there are scores or hundreds that are at relative peace, where the citizens 'only' have to deal with the generic problems of the bureaucracy.

Handing yourself over to Chaos isn't some sort of transhuman gamble with a decent chance of success, it's going to a deranged schizophrenic modern artist/biomagical tinkerer, pointing to yourself, and shouting, "Have at it!" And, as LW said, Chaos isn't sustainable in and of itself.
---

On a tangent:

What if the Orks were converted into a force for Order? Convince them that the best scraps the boyz'll get are wiv da humies, dat other scraps aren't as good and they should only scrap wiv humies, and dat humies can't give da best dey got in scraps wiv da boyz when dey fightin' Necrons, 'Nids, and Chaos. So, if da boyz wanna good scrap forever wiv da humies, dey gotta make sure none of the others are gonna muck it up. In particular, get them believing hard enough that the galaxy will only be roight and proper if everything's ordered so that they can always fight with the Imperium and the Imperium can always focus all of their military might on the Orks.

So, how stupid is that on a scale of one to Magnus?

While orks love humans, they've also been fairly clear in what communications there have been that orks consider everybody else un-orky, and therefore not worth listening to.

Chaos can't really sustain itself in the long run against such forces as the fully awakened Necrons or the Tyranids in full force, since either of those would destroy or scour clean the Warp. Therefore it's not worth it in the long run if we're trying to preserve the human race without trading their souls away, which kinda violates the inherent principle of keeping the human race human. If they all turn into daemons then they're just formerly mortal daemons, not human.
Therefore between the two shitty options I'll choose the Imperium, as it isn't really dependant on the Warp for survival of its citizens to the extent that Chaos is, and also there's tons of worlds that just pay their tithes, live peaceful lives, and nothing ever happens to them in it. So it may be shitty, but it's not actively malavolent.

Of course the actual solution is to go find the Slaan and the rest of the Lizardmen and let them do their thing, since I don't think the 40k Slaan were ever retconned out. Or you could use Fantasy Lizardmen since they escaped End Times and all it's bullshit in their temple spaceships.

Haven't read the thread but the poll doesn't let me change my vote. 0/10

I think that's just how polls work on this forum.

I've made a poll where participants can change their votes if they want. It's not how polls work on the forum - it's just how their creators designed them for some inexplicable reason.

I set it to allow changing votes, but the forum software is notoriously inconsistent with actually applying that quality. But also:

I forget, are the torn off and tanned faces of your enemies acceptable Imperium crotch coverers? Because that's a weird one.

Proper mutilation and defilement of xenos horrors, if rightfully slain, is always acceptable.

I've always thought that the Chaos gods embodied a big bad trait and a little good trait.
For instance:

Khorne dislikes 'unfair' combat. He's all about the bloodthirsty and the murder and the mutilation and whatnot, but he's not a gigantic fan of ranged weapons or psykers.
So he could be seen as both the god of Bloodshed- and of Honor.

Tzeentch has already been shown as the god of all knowledge and learning, along with sorcery, along with change, along with plotting.
He's a lot of things, alright. Let's just leave it.

Nurgle loves you. Death, decay, hope, love, etc etc. All (except one) of his minions are bubbly, happy, and carefree.
Basically once you get plagued with nurgle you can either choose to accept him or die, but that's some metaphors we don't want to go into.

Slaanesh... is one I have trouble with. Hedonism, excess, and eating every Eldar it sees.
Not entirely sure on that one.

Khorne is the god of Courage. Tzneetch is the god of Hope. Nurgle is the god of Contentment/Happiness. Slaanesh is the god of Love.
Problem is, humans in 40k are such bastards that only the horrible overblown parts of those traits are expressed.

Blame Ancients for going in an out-of-control galaxy-wide War in Heavens which spawned these Chaos Gods (at least three of them).
