Argh, stupid politics.
« on: June 13, 2008, 05:51:00 am »

Anyone living in the great 51st state of America, Britain for all those people who havn't been watching the news... in the last 4 years, westminster has just passed the 42 retention period for 'terrorists'. This is a truely horrible outrage for everyone. Anyone else gonna show their support against this retarded law? It might have a chance of being scrapped though, it only went through with a majority of 9, as its still go to go through the house of lords.

i resent you calling it the 51st state.

Also, i've never really followed this debate, but i can see why it's hated, it'll never get through the house of lords though, because they'll be all for upholding british values and whatnot.

Because animosity between Britain and the US would be great for the world.

Wait, you guys call your congress The House of Lords?

That is epic, I wish I lived there.

I'm still trying to decide whether to vote for McCain or Obama.  A third and much more appealing choice is to not vote at all, or vote for the independent candidate with the funniest name.

I'm amazed how similar our voting tactics are.

But I'm going to need to read up on this. Hopefully I can get by the cooler names for the parts of their government to get content.

And we already know the 51st state is going to be either Canada or Mexico. America just needs to stop dicking around.   ;)

The House of Lords is more comparable to the Senate. The House of Commons is roughly equivalent to your Congress.

You should fuse them together into The High Council, or The Shadow Council.

1) I agree with Bullion, we are not the 51st State.  This is an international forum, so there's no need to create relevance by tying what happens here to America.

2) I agree with you.  I'm pissed off that Gordon freaking Brown managed to pull enough strings to get that idiotic law passed.  Particularly since we;ve never needed to hold anyone for the full 21-day period that it is now.  I really hope the House of Lords kills this one.  Failing that, there's always the Queen.

(Okay, the Queen thing is a joke.  She DOES have the power to veto any law.  It's just that she's only allowed to have said power on the condition that she never ever uses it.)

yeah, well stay in touch with it. It's annoying, cause i used to pride myself of Britain being the upholder of great justice and freedom. But we're worse than most dictatorships now. ID cards are coming in, segregating all the ethnic minorities, 42 days in jail without being told what its for. I have a sneaky suspicion that the government will uses these awesome tools of corruption to frame people they don't like. hold them in jail for 42 days, while you fake the ID cards. seems simple enough.

And, i doubt america has the money to take over mexico, let alone canada  :D
