Welcome! I am abyssgullet. You do not know me, but I've been watching you. I like to tell stories, but I wasn't sure you liked to hear them. Now I am certain you do, and you like especially a certain type of story. That is the type of story I will tell!

This is an "RPG" game where you role-play as certain characters, gain items, and explore a dungeon. I will be illustrating the game with maps and weird faces for your characters (if you want).

Welcome to Halls of the Pretender King! HotPK is an illustrated RPG where yout play a group of dungeon explorers trying to discover the nature of the titular dungeon. You will battle, collect items, gain skills, and uncover the nature of the dungeon.

WARNING: This game's mechanics encourage roleplaying. If you like to RP with the other players, and you like to explore game worlds and collect loot and gain skills, this game is for you! If you are anti-social, you'll quickly lose pace with the other players.

I'm sorry, but I cannot reveal anything more about the game yet. You will have to play to find out more!

Name: This is your character's name!
HP: Distribute 20 points total between this and UP.
UP: Distribute 20 points total between this and HP.
Class: You should write an adjective and a noun, such as "Astral Jumper" or "Green Mage.". From this, I will determine your character's initial abilities.
Background: I understand it's difficult to give a background as I have not explained the setting yet, but you can develop your character as the game progresses. For ease of roleplaying, assume that you are a citizen of a low-fantasy kingdom who has agreed to investigate an anomaly outside the kingdom's walls. City guard, prince, farmer, it doesn't matter. The kingdom itself is nonspecific, so don't worry about getting "details" wrong.
Appearance: Your character's appearance. It will be modified in illustrations to fit with the setting.

This game will not be "first come" "first serve," sorry. I will select players based on the appropriateness of their character sheet. Since right now, you don't really know what's appropriate, just write what you would like to play and hope for the best. (I am also not selecting the most lengthy or detailed character sheet.)

Background: Rachne was born to the spider-touched worshippers of the God of Eight, a god worshipped in the western forests. Despite theri occasionally alarming features, they are non-hostile to outsiders - an ancient pact with the kingdom's royal family keeps them secure in their forest while they send their unique magic-casters to assist with dangers the kingdom may face.
Appearance: A four-eyed woman, wearing silk robes and the traditional spider-leather armour of the skitter-mages. Has pale skin and dark hair, as is normal for her kind.

Background: A graduate from the ancient Ulberth Tower of Elements, Lars sets off for the Hall of the Pretender King to put his newly-gained knowledge to use to attain wealth and continue his journey on the Path of Fire.
Appearance: Male, average height, black hair, and soft, dark orange eyes. Red wizard robes and hood with yellow trim over an orange undershirt.

Class: Quiet Hunter
Background: He isn't exactly unfriendly, but Erik keeps himself to himself. A commoner raised to feed himself from the wilderness, he spends a lot of time in the woods, hunting deer and rabbits, and sometimes darker beasts. His solitude has led the common folks to vague suspicions that he is practicing magic, but there is little or no magic about him, except the ordinary everyday sort which helps him to disappear quietly and quickly. He is patient enough to sit for hours alone in the forest, until the birds have lost their fear and come to eat beside him. After spending so long in the wild, it is no surprise that Erik has learned the speech of wood and water and earth -- of course, they say no words, but nevertheless they bring him tidings of the running deer and the hiding rabbits, and warnings of wolves and storms.
Appearance: He has a short beard, not very tidily kept, and likewise unkempt hair. He wears the browns and greens and greys of a forest, in well-worn shirts and pants, and carries the unadorned quiver and simple longbow of a common hunter.

I'm assuming that the meaning of "UP" is one of the things you can't explain yet?

Background: There was an entire world out there, back there, in there. An entire world! Therin could see it, he could hear it, and at the best of times he could smell it. He would really admit, he could never feel it. But it was there! Sometimes he could bring it through. Those were fun times. And sometimes destructive times. His family, they were kind. Their basement had been a perfect place to practice his art. And such art! He had summoned a great brute of a demon, a wonderful specimen. Uncooperative though. Burnt the house. Therin needed a new space. And food.
Appearance: The right half of Therin's head had been burnt, leaving a scar from his eye, milky white in color, over the top of his head. The left half of good hair was an unruly mop of black hair which hung near his good, green, eye.

Background: 27 year old Van Feelix, a low-ranking knight of the kingdom's Hokuten clan; he volunteered himself for the expedition. An uncomplicated man, the first thing that motivated him to join once he had heard of the task was to protect those others who had already decided to go. Their bravery was impressed upon him and he wanted nothing more than to be in the company of such happy warriors. He is joyful and confident. His best friend is his bird mount Oppet. He wears his armor faithfully to please his beautiful but worrisome wife; his favorite thing in the world is her home cooking.
Appearance: A broad, strong man with dirty blonde hair that falls over his ears. Normally seen wearing his light metal armor and feathered full helm with visor.

Background: Severo grew up in a world of machinery, deep in the forest with his uncle, who tinkered for a living. He was orphaned following a huge fire that swallowed up his home town that he only remembers snippets of, frequently appearing in his nightmares. He learned basic survival skills, living at least two days worth of a trip away from the nearest hamlet. His uncle taught him advanced maths, which was mandatory in the world of engineering.

He lost his hand via a bandit attack, which he managed to fend off well enough, losing his uncle and his hand in the process. He inherited his uncle's workshop from him, but seeking better things to do, he joined a group investigating the dungeons of the Hall of the Pretender King.

Appearance: A tall man with a mechanical hand who often wears goggles over his emerald green eyes. Prefers to wear studded leather armor instead of metal, to allow for more dexterous movement. Specializes in dual-wielding knives, as well as being able to utilize various survival skills.

Class: Brutal Glutton
Background: A butcher living in the filthy, diseased-ridden districts of Gharlemaigne, he makes a living selling rotten meat in the day, and taking care of undesirables at night, to sell to others in the day. There are rumors that his extra girth comes from he "sampling" the choice meats he sells to others, though this is unfounded, especially since others wouldn't care much sticking around enough for the possibility that this rumor is true.
Appearance: A large, very fat man. He has a large nose, small, black eyes, and a gnarly, nearly inhuman maw hidden behind his ugly, thin lips. He is middle-aged, and has thin, wispy hair, blowing across his face and balding skull. He wears the bloody attire of a butcher, with a blood-soaked vellum apron and thick leather pants and boots, and no shirt, leaving his flabby, scarred hide in full view. He smells like rotten meat.

Name: Adolf

Class: Legendary Ranger

Background: Now, you may be asking yourself, 'what's a legendary ranger doing out in some dungeon that probably won't have a lot of that nature stuff them hippies like?', Well I'll tell ya. Adolf, he knew about this anomaly, he could feel it in the wind and the earth and he may have been getting wasted and decided to go with the group of adventurers to find out what it's all about. Okay, so maybe it's not the most noble way of discovering it but it got his attention. Now, you're probably wondering, 'what does a ranger even do?'. Well, their job is to go out, hunt, bring back dead animals, go out again, grab herbs and lobs and stuff, and then take them back for fire wood and medicines. 'Wait,' you must be saying to yourself, 'why did this random woodsman jackoff become so legendary then?', well, one time he was out in the woods, minding his own business, when all the sudden, he stumbles upon a bandit camp. Now, I'll spare you the gory details of how he killed them with various traps and sneaky beaky ways, but it ends up that he heads back to town with a bag full of ears and more than a few tall tales about how he got them. This gets the attention of more bandits who try to show this douchenozzle how a real bandit group fights. Well, despite him being out numbered Adolf managed to kill them all through clever use of local flora and fauna. This just made him even more popular in town and... well... He had to leave as his stories were getting outside of the local area. Which is why he was wasted in a tavern when he heard about the dungeon!

Appearance:  This man reminds you of a prowling alligator. He has almond-shaped blue eyes. His silky, wavy, midnight black hair is worn in a style that reminds you of a flame. He's got a beard and moustache. He is very tall and has a wide-chested build. His skin is tanned. His skin is white. He has a strong chin. His wardrobe is utilitarian.

Name: Carrion Cryptfield

Class: Reckless Scholar
Background: Hailing from the infamous Cryptfields, unsavory but peerless purveyors of knowledge, it might have been expected that Carrion would follow in their footsteps. She most certainly did, but in a slightly unusual manner- by becoming a promising young healer and apothecary. Alas, simple compassion wasn't the only thing driving this decision; her lust for knowledge is every bit as strong as her kin's, but centered primarily on the human body. While prescribing remedies and examining wounds offers her little in the way of the kind of depraved knowledge she'd really like, it's at least a step in the right direction, and she hopes to someday perform remorseless atrocities against man and god in the name of true progress.
Appearance: Pale skin, long white hair, red eyes. Usually dresses in dark scholarly robes with too many pockets.

Name: Anterio "The Misty Blaze" Belveda

Class: Mystic Luchador
Background:When he was young, Anterio's entire village was destroyed by a luchador known only as The Crimson River. Only he and his sister survived the slaughter. On that day, Anterio vowed he would kill the man who killed his parents, but not before removing his mask, so he could see the face of the one who took family from him.

But to be able to challenge this man, he would have to become a famous luchador himself. So he went to the big city to become a luchador, trying out at the local stadium. He had a lot of spunk, but absolutely no training, so he didn't make the cut. But an old luchador known as the Flying Swordfish was watching his try-out and saw he had a lot of potential. When he heard Anterio's story, he offered to become his mentor.

Many years passed of Anterio training with his mentor and competing in the stadium, but still he has not been able to challenge the Crimson River. He has heard of the Halls of the Pretender King, and thinks it the perfect way to build some skill and gain enough fame to be able to take on the Crimson River and finally get his revenge.
Appearance: Wears an elaborate white and light blue mask, which he never removes, and most often wears matching pants and a cape.
