[SG] Peter's Guide to Dimensional Jumping for Dummies
« on: March 27, 2015, 05:08:56 pm »

"Excuse me, can you spare me a moment to fill out this survey?"
I looked down and saw a cute girl with a piece of paper in her hands. I had a bit of spare time, so I decided to fill it out.
"Yes, of course." I replied. She gave me a simple "Thank you" as her response.
I looked at the survey, there was just a single question. "If you could become a mercenary that could jump between universes and/or dimensions, at a cost of leaving your previous life, would you become one?" Basically a yes or no question, nothing besides it.
It was a very strange question, but I thought that it was probably just some kind of psychological question for some stupid essay, I  put an 'x' on the YES box.

Then the reality wrapped around itself, and in a second I was standing, completely shocked, in a large, circular room. The walls were covered by red curtains, the ceiling was coloured black and the floor was just metal tile. There was also a dark wooden desk at which that cute girl was sitting behind, and in front of it there was a single chair, facing the desk.
She motioned me to sit on that chair. I was very confused, I thought I was dreaming however I made no effort to confirm that. I sat in front of her, she gave me a couple of papers and stated:
"Thank you for accepting my offer, you will now join one of the Schools that will teach you how to become a proper Jumper. Please fill out these papers, sign here and here, and we will be able to continue."
I was not sure how to respond to that, but because I thought it was all a dream, I just rolled with it.
I started filling out the papers she gave me.

Are we allowed to ask questions? For example steampunk is literally worthless unless it's actually magitek compared to advanced technology, if I write a rune on a weapon does it get enchanted, are descriptive enchantments permanent or temporary, are runes? I'll admit we jumped into this without asking any questions but that was before we were taken over by a munchkining hivemind.

I'll make sure that everything is balanced, steampunk gun has no reason to be any worse than advanced gun, because there would be no point in choosing steampunk other than for the steampunk itself.
Runes can enchant equipment but drain your energy as they do so (can toggle), they can also grant you powerful spells and buffs, but you have to prepare them in advance (each rune can be used multiple times), descriptive enchantments are permanent, they kinda work like adding adjectives to things in Scribblenauts. Word magic let's you cast spells which are a bit less powerful than runic ones, but require no preparation at all.

Let's say that if one student from any school, fought any other student from any other school in 1v1 match, both would have equal chances to win.

Also, some of the schools are working together, it means that if you decide to fight using explosive and/or combustible potions, there is still a way for you to acquire that sweet ice rune onto your sword.

I don't know if I really should tell you all of this in OOC, but you need info to choose properly, right?

Maybe? If you mean picking people to join your kind-of "adventuring" party, then yes, you could group up with students from other schools.

Cool. Though I prefer to call it a merc squad.
Previous Name: Jessica Greyheart
Mercenary Name: The Hooded Man
Appearance: Knock out gorgeous but likes to hide it. 5' 10'', brown hair, Hispanic, slim, kind of a nerd. Her alias wears a white fur hooded cloak that pretty much conceals her entire body and face (with a little help from a minor shadow/concealment enchantment).
Personality: Silently attentive to her surroundings and sarcastically witty with both those she likes and hates.
Describe your previous life: Fairly wealthy family tried to make her into a debutante only leading to her further retracting into her shell.

We're gonna want a runic caster and a steam punker at the least. An alchemist is preferable but not necessary. A verbal caster is higher necessity than the alchemist but still disposable. The idea is to get a steam and clockwork juggernaut and buff the shit out of them before combat while also providing debuffs and cover fire.

So, you want her to hide her gender during missions?

white fur hooded cloak that pretty much conceals her entire body and face (with a little help from a minor shadow/concealment enchantment)
Maybe you'd like to add that to the "Any special wishes?" part of the character sheet.

Yes. That was the whole point of the cloak. Sure it can be in the special wishes part. Although we logically wouldn't enchant it until we have the ability to do it ourselves.

John Stevenson and Jessica Greyheart are the only suggested characters and I don't feel like anyone else would be interested enough to post more.
So, with which one should we go, John or Jessica? (I will incorporate the other one into the story somehow, don't worry)
