Turn 4: ResultsStill a couple missing turns. This would be MiddleNamePalpatine's second strike, so he has been removed from the game, and his character has died suddenly of a heart attack. He's out. Wasn't joking about that two consecutive strikes rule.
Sorry about the lateness of the turn. I graduated from high school last week, and I have finals coming up in my college classes, so I've been pretty busy. Summer starts later this week for me though, so things should move a little faster now that it's almost summer.
→ You offer up a reward for information about the Krexus, and hundreds come flocking to you. Many have only theories and you are forced to use a significant amount of manpower to sort through them all. They offer little to no information. The closest thing you get is reports of a cloaked figure. Two separate people gave that description and you can confirm that they were both witnesses of Krexus attacks. -15 Dunts
→ The mages college is not interested in aiding in monster hunting. The president of the college points you to the library if you are looking for help.
→ Your men stand up straight and they stop frequenting brothels and bars as much. It still happens, but it has greatly decreased.
→ You now have a fair understanding of barta gel after you have examined and interrogated several users.
→ You instruct your guards to be more lenient. Their reaction to this is somewhat mixed, but for the most part you think that they will stop being as harsh. As for what they want, well, they want the Krexus’ head on a platter. They think it’s bounty of only 200 Dunts is too small.
→ A blacksmith reports being robbed and bullied into closing his business. He says that some thugs took all of his tools and wares and told him to give up. Later in the week however, he returns to report that he no longer wished the guard to seek out the men who robbed him. He has now found refuge and a fair profit working for Dendel Metrik’s blacksmiths.

→ You discover that there is little to no one guarding the books. The only thing between you and the book is a beat up old librarian. When entering the archives, however, you feel a chill. You can sense that this man has been abused by dark magic of the mind. Much like the magic you are familiar with yourself. You can feel a dark presence seeping from the crevices of the librarians mind. It doesn’t appear to be dangerous. He just seems to have forgot something that someone didn’t want him to remember. You feel sorry for him, so you try to lift this magic, but as soon as you do he falls to the ground writhing in pain. You put the curse back immediately. You have learned that this man is very susceptible to your magic, but you have also learned that someone may have tortured him with it.

→ You succeed in bullying the blacksmith. Your men are there to scoop them up when financial strife comes to strike them without their business. You have gained more blacksmiths. +Control
→ Your spies return to tell you that pleasures of the flesh (brothels and bars) and the control of food seems to be the most profitable business in the city. There does not seem to be any one business in particular that is comparable in size to yours. None seem to come close.
→ You begin frequenting parties and mingling with nobles and business people. At any given party, however, you are almost always the richest man in the room. You struggle to make friends as often, people seem either envious or suspiciously interested in your business.
→ Your festival is a great gathering and the people enjoy themselves. Much of the city passes through the festivities. It seems that most of the people are only brought for the free food though. Though most of them stay and enjoy the music and browse your wares. -150 Dunts +Control
→ William Graftur is not interested in your contract. (Unfortunately)

→ You attend a sermon of the church of light and find that the two faith’s beliefs are not far apart, but you quickly learn that where you differ is in your acceptance of others. The church of light quite vehemently hates heathens. You learn this when the orator begins berating your faith and the dominant faith in the city towards the end of his sermon. You, being quite wise, make the informed decision to leave before someone recognizes you as many of the members of their church seemed to be quite aggravated by the sermon.
→ Your faith is spread to rural areas, and people are now making a long journey to visit your sermons. However, you find that the problem lies not with the farmers, but with the lack of work that the poor can find. The problem is not the price of bread. The problem is the lack of wealth the poor receive. Most farmers can't afford to lower their prices any lower than they already are. +Religious Unity
DIALOGUE: Man of Peace. Man of Violence. Men of Action.
→ The church continues negotiations and finds that the guard has actually become slightly more lenient with the people. In fact, you have heard rumors that William Graftur is attempting to remove all corrupt guard, because that is who the Krexus is targeting.

Danith is giving a sermon to many gathered followers in the silent house. A small church, but one only recently completed that he felt needed his attention. His voice filled the small church and the many gathered listened intently as he spoke, “It is now more than ever that we must stand together and care for one another brothers and sisters. For in these dark times, we are faced with the knowledge that any man among us could be killed tomorrow for stealing or for turning down the wrong alley, but we mustn’t fear my friends. We must-”
*BOOM*
The door crashes open and a burly man steps through the door interrupting Danith in the middle of his sermon.
“I know of what you speak wise man! For I have seen the beast with my own eyes and danced with it toe to toe.” Says the man quite loudly.
“I’m flattered you felt the need to tell us that stranger” Danith says restraining a laugh. The people gathered murmur and chuckle. “However I am in the middle of a sermon, so I would ask that you keep your interruptions to yourself.” Dwarmin again says smiling.
The mans voice is low and grim now, “Laugh all you want fools, but there is a monster on the loose: a daemon possessed. I attempted to capture the beast, but I found that it had inhuman speed and agility. He was quick, accurate and deadly, but not unkillable for I saw it bleed. I am here not to interrupt you, Danith Santiv XII, but to ask for your help in the presence of your followers. I think I know a way to kill the beast with the aid of someone with influence and wisdom, but I am sorry. Continue. What must we do in these times of strife, Danith?”
Danith speaks calmly and again begins to address his followers “We must stand together and love each other. For if we do not, and we cower in fear, then the beast will have what it wants!”
“What it wants? It wants our blood Danith. Not our fear. All I ask is some assistance from any men willing! I can catch the beast for I have seen it with my own eyes!” Cries the man to those listening.
Danith looks at the eager faces in the crowd. He speaks carefully and in a calculated manner “People of the congregation, I understand your fear. It is perhaps the hardest thing to overcome when finding silence. Hate and anger are nothing in comparison to the obstacle that is fear. I ask that any man whom is not afraid step forward. For if you kill the beast in fear, you will not be doing us a service, you will be doing yourself harm. We mustn’t validate our own fear. We must do what is right because we know it is right. We shouldn’t do the right thing because we are afraid. Pure action should be made of conscious decisions and not guesses of fear.” The faces in the crowd stare back at Danith unafraid.
Danith chuckles and continues, “A daemon possessed is a truly scary thing my friends. I know for a fact that many of you are not far enough in your search for silence to not be afraid when that vicious thing squeezes your last breath out of you.” The men in the crowd no longer seem quite as courageous with the thought of death on their minds.
Danith again addresses the man, “I think I’ve heard of you. Are you not Brenth Wildran? The slayer of the Dembur assassin? I assume men of your talents must be quite excited at this time.”
“I am Brenth, and I wouldn’t use the word excited” he responds.
Danith can’t help but laugh for a moment. He the composes himself and asks “Would you describe the beast to us, Brenth?”
Brenth’s eyes light up at this idea and he begins speaking with fervor “The beast wore a cloak with a hood to mask his identity. I tracked him to a brothel that many guards frequent. I watched one guard step out of the brothel and stumble down the alley where I had laid my traps for the Krexus. I watched the beast leap from a near by rooftop and land behind the guard and slit his throat in motion. It took less than a second and the guard died silently. Briefly the beast stood above his corpse… almost as if he were admiring his work. He then ripped the clothes from the deceased and began desecrating his corpse quite viciously. It was hacking and slashing at his body mercilessly. I couldn’t stand idly and watch a dead man of a noble cause be violated in death. So, I sprung my trap and fired my crossbow at the beast. The beast easily avoided both, and I have arguably the best aim in New Ledlin. I then grabbed and drew my bow and fired again and again the beast avoided my arrow. It threw this knife at me.” Brenth raises a krexus murder knife for the crowd to see. “My aim was only able to hit the beast on the third shot. I aimed for his heart, but he managed to move enough for it to only hit his shoulder. The impact of my arrow made his knife miss me, and I am now lucky to have my life. The beast turned and ran from me and I fired my bow a fourth and final time at his back. Without even seeing my arrow, he again sidestepped my attack and then vanished into the night.” People in the congregation are growing increasingly uneasy. “As I approached the guard’s corpse I saw the letters K, R, and E carved into his torso.” I had interrupted the daemon before he could finish.
Danith scans the room and after a long silence, points to eight different men in the crowd and says “Stand.” The men stand and face Danith. Danith announces “I see no fear in your eyes. It is your duty to the people of this city. Help this man.” Danith gestures towards Brenth.
The men turn and follow Brenth and they begin to leave. Brenth turns and calls out to his men as they leave. “Alright men, let’s kill us a demon.”
Danith looks at the men as they leave and calls out“Amen, Brenth! Amen.”
The politician stepped onto his soapbox and began speaking his words of encouragement. A crowd had gathered to hear him speak. The usual suspects mostly. Some new faces had joined his group of listeners, but it felt more and more normal to him as the words began to leave his lips. "Listen to me, and listen to me well my Brothers! Something has corrupted the society in which we live. Every man, woman, child; peasant, guard, and noble is affected by this foul disease which has infected us. And what is it that plagues us so? A connection with our mortal enemies in Dunland, of course. It is not even the people which we are opposed to, for they are as innocent as we - but misguided by that thing they call a leader. No one, and I mean no one here is unaffected by that beast - his writhing, destructive influence creeps into our beautiful city and strikes at us from the shadows." The orator turns and addresses the guards in the crowd and around the market, "Those who serve this city as its protectors - he strikes at YOU. And in doing so, he attacks ALL of us!" The speaker pulls back his sleeve to reveal a long and twisting scar, "This was given to me by the agents of this foreign monster, just as many of you here may have felt its reach. However...in this time of pain and suffering, we must unite! We are all of the same blood, and must band together with our brothers and sisters to prove that WE ARE NOT POWERLESS.” The people applaud him for raising his voice to Dunland. “We have much work to do to prove this fact, though. I have and will continue to do what I can, but I cannot accomplish it alone. Show the world how powerful you are; go out, and spread the word! We do not need those Dunnish dogs. Go and aid any and all who have been hurt by the enemy! We must protect and help each other - for no one else will. I believe in you, I believe in US, I believe in the PEOPLE OF BOKURA!" The people applaud the politician and cry his name whistling and cheering at his message.
“You speak the truth Deldan Trandur!” A political admirer cries from the crowd.
“You are wise beyond your years” Another member of the crowd cries.
One member of the crowd however, is not amused. An observer that appears to be a man, but on the inside is a creature of death and fear... A snake in the grass. He found his eyes rolling at the every implication of the politician’s speech. I am no Dunnish Dog. He thinks to himself. I kill for pleasure, not for that heinous king across the sea. His thoughts progress.
The silent observer looks at the many guards surrounding the speaker on his perch. There are a few guards around him and an unarmed man who would appear to be an advisor of some sort. Not the easiest kill, but a kill nonetheless. The beast thinks to himself. He pulls out one of his famous knives. The blade has the word “Krexus” carved into it’s blade. The beast smiles giddily as he draws the blade. It brings him happiness to know that someone is about to die. He liked playing god. Though for him it isn’t playing.
The advisor glances over at the silent man in the crowd and looks uneasy. He stand there briefly studying the beast’s face. Suddenly, the beast throws his knife with a swiftness like no other. The man sees the blade and leaps in front of the politician. The blade strikes the advisor in the chest. He lands on the ground not far from the politician’s perch. The politician immediately rushes to the aid of his friend, and his guards rush into the crowd to hunt down the assassin.
Knowing that he has lost the element of surprise, the beast vanishes into the crowd as quickly as he threw his knife. The guards lose him and stumble around aimlessly looking for a man whom is no longer there.
Deldan, the politician, hold his friend as he breathes his last few breaths. “No! David, you can’t die on me now, brother.” Deldan cries at his dying friend.
David looks up at Deldan, and with his last breath manages to mutter his final word through all of his pain. “Cirtsy” he says. Deldan is confused by this and simply continues to cry amongst his many supporters, who scream for the beast’s blood.
Good RP from unexpected people this week. Keep it up guys!
