Turn 3: ResultsDespite the couple missing turns this one was pretty interesting.
Characters are starting to interact now, and remember, if you've met another player, and you know them in game, you can private message them.
→ You find that a fair number of nobles are willing to convert if there is a church near by and many offer to help pay for the grand temple. They invest 150 Dunts to begin the construction, and you are expected to pay for the rest (total of 500 Dunts). You invest 200 Dunts yourself to help with the construction. (350 Dunts invested - 3W to finish)
NOTE: Invested funds can be pulled and used however you want to use them. If you pull them, it simply stops construction. You will still owe 150 Dunts to complete the construction but you can add that to the investment when the time comes.
→ A dozen preachers are sent to Dembur. They will return in a weeks time.
→ Danith decides to make his speech to the people of New Ledlin. They must know the truth. Danith sets out his preachers to tell people to gather at the steps of the castle to hear the truth of the riot by the wall. Many gather to hear Danith’s words, including the king, who seeks an explanation for this violence. (See the dialogue: On the king’s porch)
→ Danith speaks with the silent council and they are pleased with Danith’s actions. While his questioning of Gruden may have sparked violence, the council believes that Danith acted as he should have. No boy deserves what James received.
Questions:
→ James and Sophia say they have no plans for their future. Their constant struggle to stay alive hasn’t given them time to plan for their futures. After a long winded announcement to the clergymen. A bishop steps forward and offers to take them in. You know him well and trust him to care for these poor children.
→ There are three. You are one of them. The court of Denthir is the dominant polytheistic religion. They make up about 50% of the city. The other is the church of light. They are a less popular faith, but they make up about 25% of the city. The church of light believes that the light will guide you to righteousness. There is also a percentage of non-religious people. You are extremely well versed in the competing faiths as the original Danith was.
→ The food is supplied by the farmers. There is more than enough of it to go around. People simply can’t afford to pay for it. To begin housing the poor, you would need to start building shelters, which would be similar in cost to your churches. As for feeding the people, you could look into speaking with the farmers to see if you can work out a contract.
NOTE: Your income increases as your following does. I roll a percentage of your followers.

Perhaps there is something in that book they don’t want you to know…

→ You give a speech that humanizes everyone in the New ledlin society, which reminds the people that the king, and the guards are no different than them. Many hear you, and with the help of David, they like what they hear. You use the recent event concerning the slaughter of many guards, and people feel deep sympathy for the guards. + Awareness
→ Your informants make you aware of a speech being given by the holy man who caused the riot. As it turns out, it was the leader of the church of silence. He questioned a guard who was beating the daylights out of a twelve year old boy for stealing a loaf of bread. A crowd surrounded him and the guard as he debated with the guard. Finally, the guard cuts off the boy’s hand (standard punishment). Then strikes the holy man, which then started the riot. Also, the frequency of Krexus attacks is increasing.
→ David immediately shuts down the donation box idea. “We have plenty of support from nobles as is.” he says. A bread line for the poor would likely cost about 30 Dunts a week in order for it to make any kind of difference. As for guards… anything can be bought for the right price (10/turn. Each. There are many risks associated with being a guard that backs politicians)

→ The holy man of which you speak is rarely alone. In fact, he is almost never alone. He lives in a large monastery with close to one hundred other people. You also learn that he has close to 6,000 followers in the city. You advisors suggest that if you are going to punish him, you should make it public. There is too great of a chance of people finding out it wasn’t a Krexus attack. You do get a chance to meet this man though… (See Dialogue: On the King’s Porch)
→ Your guards do not find the whore in any whore house in the city. They’ve searched all over, but it appears she may not have been a whore after all...

He is the best protected man in all of New Ledlin, and he doesn’t go to brothels like Fuckery.

→ You did not post a turn this time around, so here are your events.
→ The Krexus has been killing more of your guards and carving the words “Krexus” into them. Then these bodies are being thrown from buildings into crowded areas. Dialogues:This is where I will be posting dialogues now that characters are actually starting to interact with each other.
Please do not read these unless your turn tells you to.
The holy man stood waiting on the castle steps. His preachers were hard at work around the city spreading the news of his speech. He knew that there would be an audience, and a sizeable one. People are quite curious about the nature of the riot that occurred a week prior. A reasonably sized crowd was already present at the steps. More and more began to pour in.
He hears the clamour of metal behind him and turns to see two of the king’s guard escorting a man dressed in satin and covered in gold, and a man in full military uniform, whom is quite heavily decorated. This must be the king the holy man thinks to himself.
“What is this filth doing on my step?” The king calls out to his guards.
“I have come to confess the truth your grace!” Cries the holy man. “I am Danith Santiv XII: The Enlightened One. Leader of the church of silence. I have come to give a speech to the people of New Ledlin. I think they deserve to know the truth.”
The king looks oddly surprised by this statement, and for a second there is even a tinge of fear on his face. “The truth of what?” He asks.
“The truth of the riot that broke out recently. I believe that I am partially to blame for it.” Danith replies.
The king takes a moment. His face looking puzzled. He looks over at Danith and asks “Do you know who I am, priest?”
“You are Lord Peter Marius IV: King of New Ledlin. A follower of the court of Denthir.” Danith answers.
“Then you would know that I have half a mind to put your head on spike right now wouldn’t you?” The king asks, raising his voice.
“I do your grace, but I ask that you hear me speak before you commit to such an action.” Danith says, gesturing to the now sizeable crowd of people waiting at the feet of the steps.
The king steps back and looks at his friend. They both seem to be intrigued. The king turns back to Danith and says, “Proceed, heathen.” The king steps to the side with his guards, keeping his distance from Danith.
Danith turns to the crowd of people standing before him and begins to speak his wise words.
“Be still my friends! For there is much to which I must confess! Many of you may know me as Danith Santiv: The twelfth enlightened one! Many of you may not know me at all, but the truth is that despite my societal standing and wisdom, I was once much like all of you. I was cold, hungry, and abused. I only managed to escape a life of sorrow through silence, and a woman I love more than silence itself.” The crowd is captivated by Danith’s relatable words.
“I know the pain that comes with not knowing if you will eat tonight, or tomorrow, and I know the decisions the poor are forced to make for their own survival, which is why I was deeply disturbed when I saw a town guard beating a boy last week.” There is a shift in the crowd. Many look over at the king.
“Like any man with half a heart, I asked why this boy had to be beaten. The response to this question was that he had stolen a loaf of bread for his sick and starving younger sister. The boy was only looking out for the ones he holds closest to him. Much like we all do. Even I feel compelled to protect my loved ones, despite knowing that all men are equal in their creation.” There is a chuckle in the crowd. Danith is pleased to see smiling faces returning his gaze, but once the murmur dies their faces again look quite grim.
“However, despite my best efforts, the guard was unconvinced that the boy deserved forgiveness. And perhaps I am wrong. Perhaps this boy did deserve to have his hand severed from his wrist...” Danith trails off, giving the crowd time to react.
“Nay Danith! Spare the boy! Nay!” The crowd cries.
“So, then, the people of New Ledlin agree with my original assumption?” Danith asks the crowd.
“Yea Danith! You are wise!” Citizens cry out from the crowd.
“Then the boy’s hand does not deserve to be taken from him! Clarity at last! I must say that I, the enlightened one, find that the minds of the masses are much wiser than the mind of the guard. For when I told the guard that his punishment was unjust, he took the boys hand without hesitation!” Danith shouts.
The crowd boos and shouts in disapproval.
“Calm yourselves, gentle friends. This is what got us into this mess in the first place! You see, after the guard took the boy’s hand, he struck me in anger, and the crowd took the guard’s life. A riot ensued, and I was only barely able to escape with the boy. We mustn’t answer injustice with violence, for violence is innately unjust! Is injustice the answer to injustice my dear friends? I think not, for then the world would be nothing but injustice, and that is not the solution! No my friends, the answer is not injustice. It is compassion.”
The crowd is silent and Danith pauses to appreciate it.
“That is the answer my friends. Compassion for one another. Silence. We must silence our anger and hate, lest we become like the guard, who I saw ripped limb from limb.” Danith pauses here for the impact of that graphic to set in. He looks up at the king, whose face is contorted in rage. Again Danith speaks “Look at the person next to you, and offer them your open hand. You needn’t speak to show compassion. Your acts of kindness speak louder than the words of any hateful guard. Go in peace my brothers and sisters. Love each other.”
The people of New Ledlin do not go. They stay and cheer for Danith. The holy man begins to descend the stairs of the castle steps to embrace the people of New Ledlin, when a king’s guard reaches out and stops him. Two of them restrain him and hold him in place on the steps. The crowd again grows silent as the king steps forward. “Now are you my people or his?” He asks as the many guards at the scene draw their weapons. “My law states that any thief should have his hand taken from his wrist! This is the law and this has been the law for hundreds of years!” The people are silent again, now out of fear and not respect. “I am your king! And those who oppose me are traitors. I deem this man’s words treacherous! Are they not treacherous?” Again the crowd is silent. “ARE THEY NOT TREACHEROUS?!” The king now screams.
Again the crowd is silent.
“You know what we do to traitors!” The king smiles as he says this, and he draws his sword.
The crowd hisses.
The king’s well decorated friend walks up and whispers in the king’s ear. “We can’t afford another riot. The people will think they have power over us.”
Danith overhears this.
The King’s turns back to the crowd, and says “But out of the kindness of my heart. I will spare this man. The words he speaks are wise, but let it be known: I will not tolerate any more of this chaos! Next time, I will have this mans head!” The king shouts as he points his sword at Danith.
"Now get off my porch!" The king cries. As he says this, the guards sheath their weapons and begin dispersing the crowd.
The king then turn to Danith and puts his own sword away. The king slowly approaches Danith until he is only inches from his face. The kings voice is low and shaky with rage:
“You’re on my list, holy man.”
A demon spies his target from his perch on top of a brothel. He looks into the alley and sees a man stumbling through the dark. He recognizes him to be a rather unpleasant guard. The demon likes his prey. He strikes by leaping down from his perch. He lands directly behind the man and slits his throat with a knife all in one smooth and silent motion. “Perfect” says the demon seeming quite happy with his work. He begins carving up the corpse. Unaware of man baring witness to these events standing at the end of the alley.
*Click*
The demon turns suddenly alerted by this noise to see a figure holding what appears to be a crossbow. The demon sees a bolt flying towards him and easily avoids it. The demon can now make out the figure to be a large burly man carrying many weapons and trinkets. It is in this time that the man with the crossbow can see the demon, and recognizes not a demon, but instead, another man.
The two men stand staring at each other briefly. Both astonished by the events that just transpired. The murderer is surprised that he could have not noticed the man at the end of the alley. And the man with the crossbow seems to be amazed that he is staring at a human.
Both men know that this can only end in one of their deaths.
Quickly, the hunter drops his crossbow and pulls out a bow. The demon sees this and dashes forward. The demon-man pulls out a knife and prepares to throw it at the hunter. Exactly as the hunter planned it, the demon triggers his tripwire. Pieces of the roof of the building begin falling down. The demon realizes this and avoids the falling bricks easily with a simple side step.
Exactly what the hunter needed. An extra second.
The hunter releases his arrow and the demon turns to see the arrow flying towards him.
He moves to evade this attack, but not even his quick reflexes could completely make up for the hunter’s spectacular aim. A searing pain hits the demon in his upper torso. Looking over the demon sees an arrow protruding from his right shoulder. His reflexes may have saved his life, but perhaps this shot was intentional. The demon had dropped his knife, and was unable to make use of his right arm. He looks back at the hunter to see he has already drawn his bow again, but this time the demon has time to react. He is too far to reach the hunter, so he attempts to sidestep his attack. This arrow only grazes his other arm, but now the demon’s hood has fallen.
The hunter enjoys making this creature dance... and getting a good look at his face.
The demon quickly asses the severity of his injury and realizes that he cannot hope to fight this man without the use of both of his arms. The demon begins to flee. He attempts to retrieve his fallen knife, but an arrow whizzes past it as he does.
“That’s mine now, beast!” shouts the hunter as the demon again turns to run away. The hunter attempts to kill the beast as he flees, but finds that he is simply too fast and evasive. The demon disappears into the shadows.
The hunter stands at the end of the alley and cries “YOUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED, KREXUS!” He laughs giddily to himself before seeing the remains of the guard. The letters “KRE” are carved into his chest. It appears he hadn't finished. The hunter kneels down and closes the deceased man's eyes and mutters a prayer. He then turns and picks up the knife the killer dropped. He examines it longingly. With curiosity in his voice, the hunter says to himself “You don’t know who you’re dealing with. Do you beasty?”
Let me know what you think of the dialogues and the game in general if you get a chance. I always appreciate feedback.
